Michigan's Stonum Suspended Indefinitely

Players want to play, not sit. This makes him stay out of trouble for an entire year before coming back, and actually earning his spot back.

I get that he has to earn his spot back and all that, but lets be real, he will not miss ONE game after being arrested for TWO DUIs. Given this, what would have been an appropriate punishment for Floyd?

Not everyone wants to listen to all the facts behind things. I am perfectly fine with what BK did with Floyd. It's not the norm so the media can make it a huge deal to skate by. Stonum would be gone if he were at ND. Not just for a year.

As opposed to not sitting out at all. I agree that Floyd's crime was lesser, but I wouldn't even pick up a stone with the house you live in... much less throw one.

A DUI is a DUI, but 2 DUIs is greater than 1. I generally like you being around bro, but this is just a jerk comment by a fan defending his school's "integrity" while trying to blast ND & Floyd. Two words for this situation, EPIC FAIL.

Also two tickets for driving on a suspended license and multiple probationary violations for missing court dates and failing to show up at mandatory random alcohol testing.

So Micheal Floyd sitting throughout Spring ball was punishment, thanks for agreeing with that. Michael Floyd has one year of eligibility left. If he screws up once more, then he is off of the team for good. Kelly has made that clear, so a strong argument could be made that Floyd has to stay out of trouble for a year, as well. Since playing next year wasn't an option (like it was, apparently, in Stonum's case), ND let him play this year.

A .08 is in no way equal to a .24 or something ridiculous.

I don't believe you are abnormally dangerous at <.10.

I don't care what you believe. If you are arrested and blow a .10 you are going to jail.

That doesn't mean that are equal at all. Even a judge will use discrepancy there.

I don't totally agree with the punishment, but i'm happy to see they didn't ignore the issue like so many schools do. To me the biggest difference is ND allowed the legal system to take its course, and its own internal board. They cared more about Floyd as a person and bettering him for the future, as opposed to just a player. Something I feel sets ND apart from most other schools.

I legitimately want to hear what UM fans think Floyd's punishment should have been given that Stonum had twice as many DUIs and isn't going to miss a single game.

What exactly do you think the punishment for Floyd should have been? Why would a 2-3 game slap on the wrist suspension do anything to benefit Floyd if he has gotten past his issues? All it would do is help the program's image and please the media and general public who have a preconceived notion of what a standard punishment should be. It wouldn't do a thing to help Floyd get past his problems, which should be the number one priority.

+1. Exactly. His future/life is more important than our beloved Irish Football Team.

This is a new way to beat an old problem. He will not miss a game or he will leave school and free up a scholarship. All the while making Hoke look like he is the hard *** that DickRod could never be.

This is posted on mgoblog under the blurb on stonum(by a mod I'm assuming):

SILVER LINING: If Stonum can get someone to drive him around this year, his return in 2012 should soften the blow of losing Odoms and Hemingway.

SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE W/ MICHAEL FLOYD: Floyd had two MIPs, which are nothing, and the one DUI. Stonum had two DUIs and went to jail for not doing the probation on the first one. Please refrain from outing yourself as a derp by derping about Notre Derp.

You presuppose that Stonum will stay straight for a year. See, this thing is going to work out this way. Stonum and his Michigan camp, and Floyd and the approach Kelly has taken.

It will be interesting to see who changes 3 months, 6 months, and for a year down the road. Lets get together next year and see what happened. In the meantime dust off your hurt egos, and senses of propriety, and lets man up and get ready for the season.

This skunkbear deserves a prize.

As a side note, rather than responding to our own derps with long thoughtful posts that invariably get ignored, we should simply label them as derps on move on. Write that down.

Hey, I know that guy! That is my brother from another mother - believe it or not, he really doesn't look like that. Mom always did like him best!

Apparently Stonum is allowed to practice this year.

Thats where I think U of M made their mistake. If you are gonna red shirt him and allow him to save a year, at least suspend him from practicing and evaluate his behavior again later.

Hey, guess what? Maybe they just aren't interested in Stonum for his long term health.

Rediculous

Rediculous

As far as I'm concerned this no punishment at all. Floyd wasn't allowed near the team for months. Stonum... saves a year of eligibility and continues to improve with practice. I think Kelly was right, suspending Floyd one game, what does that do? He has to make the decision that he will not make that mistake again.

However, I do think the timing helps. Floyd's DUI was in March??? Had this happened now, I think games would be in play for punishment because what else is there?

Lets see... Knowing full well that the first year in a new system is a wash...CHECK... Knowing you are going to be bereft of WRs at an already thin position next year.... CHECK... Opportunity to RedShirt a decent Soph WR...CHECK. Senior QB + Senior WR ready to roll next year when you play Alabama to open the year...CHECK.

I don't see the whole picture.

Stonum 2 DUIs and multiple tickets for driving on suspended licenses. Floyd 1 DUI. If anyone here can say that if Floyd had the same record as Stonum and wouldn't be kicked out of ND for it then I'd give you a $1,000,000. Maybe $10, but you get the point.

I really loved that Mgoblog post about how "That is integrity ND".. Really.. MGoBlue has disappeared, where did he go?

Ridiculous, I can't help it. There is a jinx around the site that could help coach you up. Or maybe we could get Weiss.

I just can't believe the level of homerism on mgoblow...I mean yea we have posters with huge ND blinders but reading thru some of the topics...it is sickening. At least here you'll have a good handful of posters who will call a spade a spade, I saw very little evidence of that there...is this the "best" scum forum out there?
