No, our offence was just fine. Our D put us in the worst starting positions of most of D1, and we couldn't kick field goals unless it was really an extra point was the issue.
The question really isn't whether or not Denard Robinson is a great player... because he is. The question that was being raised is whether or not a team can really be successful if they put their entire offense on the back of one player. I was incredibly impressed by Denard's performance last year, but it would be idiotic to not acknowledge that he was lucky that he didn't end up injured. He's a tough kid, but if he had gone down last year your season would have taken an enormous turn for the worse. This, I think, was Irish fan's point. If a team's entire game plan revolves around a player that is running the ball 20-25 times/game (and isn't built like a running back) then one bad hit ruins a season not just for that player but for the whole team.
The upside of all of this for Michigan is that it seems that Brady Hoke realizes this. He will use Denard's talents but won't center his entire game plan around Denard's running ability. RichRod may not have had another choice, but it is wise for Brady Hoke not to put all of his eggs in one basket.
It official. Gameday will be in Ann Arbor for the scUM game. First Three Sites for 25th Season of College GameDay Selected | ESPN MediaZone
of course your offense has changed with the new coaching staff. how's denard gonig to handle a pro offense as opposed to the spread?
these are things that won't be answered til the wolverines play. you can speculate all you want off of last season's victory over us, but that's about it.
i would like to think based on the way our defense closed out last season and crist having one more season under kelly's offense (and barring any injury vs. usf)....we should be able to light you guys up.
again, speculative conversation at best. good luck Mgoblue. we always appreciate your posting around here
This is the same Michigan fan that defended RichRod to the last breath last year remember? How'd that work out? All I said was he wasn't a Big10 caliber coach (sort of.)
I think Coach Hoke is doing a great job in the off season, who knows how the season will turn out.Tell me how you think Bray-dee will do?
Yes, you did, and he should of been out for the whole game. Concussions are serious. And speaking of changes since last year.
Michigan won because:
We had a brand new coach with a new system and less than one game ready quarterback, who we lost for half a game;
ND certainly played better, but you still lost, again. And, the defense Michigan saw from Notre Dame was nothing like what the last five or six teams on the schedule saw. And that defenses is nothing compared to what the teams will see this year!
ND certainly played better, but you still lost, again.
My exact point: Notre Dame was better than Michigan last year and they still lost.
The cliché, "Luck of the Irish," is facetious to the point of supreme irony. The Irish have no luck. Notre Dame, has followed suit. They had nothing break their way from the time of Matt James tragic accident, through the third week of October, 2010.
Granted the teams were both mediocre for several years. Now I don't think they are as closely matched in 2011 as they were the past couple years, and I think the Irish are a little better insulated from their own luck.
This game is going to be Brady Hokes "Welcome to the Big Leagues" fisting party. I ordered a semi truck of vaseline to A^2 in time for the game. I like to take it easy on new coaches. Next year, he gets it dry.
Hopefully it wasn't that used load we had for CW.....38-0/47-21 had to feel good

Why would you even use Vaseline?
I was just talking to a Michigan fan last night. All Michigan's problems are solved; they can bury the entire RichRod era, like it never existed. They have the top recruiting class in the nation. All their injured players are back, and ready to go, and their offense is clearly the best in the Big10+.
I said, "WOW!" Then I said, "You guys are so lucky!" You don't even have to go through the unproven coach proves himself, recruits actually turn ratings into work so they can raise their level of game to winning. You don't even have to deal with reality! All you need to bask in the glow if is "the Spread is Dead," and "Michigan's alumni contributions are up 25%."
Then came the negligent homicide, ND gets money from the Vatican bank, and the covering for a serial rapist charges.
Then I realized these were the same things that SC fans were saying on their blog! With the same arrogance! SC-UM east, and SC-UM West.
A 5-0 start, highlighted by a 28-24 win at Notre Dame. That game probably would not have gone Michigan’s way in November. But it was Michigan’s finest win on the year, ahead of a 30-10 win over Connecticut to open the season and the overtime after overtime after overtime affair with Illinois.
Took a look at their updated roster, here's what jumped out.
Starting OL:
Lewan: 6'8", 302
Barnum: 6'3", 292
Molk: 6'2", 286
Omameh: 6'4", 299
Schofield: 6'7", 299
The interior seems a bit small (but I know very little) for a true power running game.
Their Starting DL:
VanBergen: 6'3", 288
Martin: 6'2", 304
Campbell: 6'5", 322
Roh: 6'4", 269
The DL should be the strength of their team. I think we will have more success attacking the edges (new LBs) than up the middle in the run game.
Starting LBs:
MLB Kenny Demens: 6'1", 248
OLB Cam Gordon: 6'3", 222
OLB Jake Ryan: 6'3", 230
Demens will be a beast. I think Gordon, while a better fit at LB, is terribly slow. He was the safety that a hobbled Rudolph outran 50+ yards last year. Ryan is the unknown.
