My first ND game was the last home game of 06 vs Army, got to go to the pep rally and midnight drummers circle. All the gameday stuff. ND came out wearing the green jerseys, the ball was parachuted in, notre dame blew army out, it was Brady Quinn's last ND home game. After the game chants of BEAT SC lead by BQ rang out through the stadium. It was a pretty good day.

Sure I will. I've been a lifelong fan of ND, and my dad is too. So much so, that he painted a 40ft by 15ft wall at his old job "his office". He used to get tickets all the time through some season ticket holders at work, and I'd beg him to take me. Of course I was always too young, and he wouldn't take me. I think that had more to do with him wanting to drink beer than anything else :)

Anyway, my first nursing job was in an emergency room in South Bend. I worked midnights (oh the stories I can tell you!) one morning at about 4am, a man came in from GA. He said he had a speaking engagement that day and it was very important he could talk, and he thought he was getting larygitis. We fixed him up, got him talking and told him to rest his voice until his engagement.

Well he and I got to talking about the south and then he asked me if I had tickets to the ND game that day. I told him no, it was really hard for me to get tickets, and he said, he was the head ref for that game, and he'd leave 2 tickets at the front desk of the Holiday Inn Express. I think it took 20 minutes to pick my jaw up off the floor. So my first ND game was ND v Navy in 2005. I took my dad with me, I had no sleep from the night before, and it was my son's 2nd birthday! It was a great game, and the most awesome thing that's ever happened to me.

Of course the 3 games I went to last year were amazing because if I had never gotten divorced I could have never gone. I also got to go to Utah, sat in Sect 7, row 7, seat 7 and 8 and it was my son's 7th birthday the day before. I played the lottery but I lost! :)

My first ND game in South Bend they lost to Navy...enough said. I guess that would be under the "Worst ND Sports Memories'" thread.

I guess my best would be at the meadowlands when they stopped Army on the 2 point conversion.

my best sports memory will happen as soon as cleveland wins a championship.

but until that happens, sitting courtside for this:

I don't like the man anymore, but this still gives me chills

If it is ANY moment... then definately Darin Erstad catching Lofton's pop up to end the 02 World Series...

fell to my knees on that one... being able to share it with EVERY ONE of my immediate family (all Angel fans also, ONLY team in sports we all agree on) was a special moment in and of itself

Due to tecnical difficulties, dshans PMed me asking me to post his favorite memory from when he was a young-adult:

On January 1, 1925, he was in attendance when the Knute Rockne coached Fighting Irish led by the Four Horsemen defeated Stanford to win their first National Championship.

Now that is quite a memory, dshans! I am honored that you allowed me to post that....

One of my greatest sports memories would be Kirk Gibson hitting the home run to win the game in the 1988 World Series. I remember when Vin Scully said he couldn't see Gibson in the dugout and then a staffer spotted him in the tunnel by the clubhouse taking BP.

You knew he would have to hit it out becaue there was no way he could run the bases. Then he came hobbling out and ripped one off Eckersley. The best part was seeing the cars leaving the Dodger Stadium parking lot and seeing all the brake lights as people were probably yelling, "CRAP! I MISSED IT!!!"

The look on Eckersley's face was priceless too. He knew it was gone and he couldn't even watch it.

The 1980 Miracle on Ice was another amazing memory. I still get choked up when I hear Al Michaels quote in the semi-final game against Russia.

Last years Utah game. I don't know how you could have been at that game and not have known that something pivotal was happening. The Blanton punt block for a TD was right in front of us. Everything changed after that(FOR THE BETTER).

I have thought about that game from this perspective also, as though it may be the game that fans point to ten years from now as the one that turned it all around... but, only time will tell on that.

FSU in 93 was sick.
More recently, the Hawaii bowl win was really gratifying to get the bowl losing streak over.

Also, last years win at USC was so great.

Dude, my wife and I just watched that last night... she had never seen it before... great moment...

My favorite part is when the race official tries to get in there and the dad tells him to basically F-off.

The whole thing is just a poignant story. You can draw such inspiration from it. It has given Redmond more notoriety than he would have received even if he won the gold medal. These Olympic athletes work their whole lives for one moment only to have it ruined by a freak injury and then to see that determination to finish the race was wonderful to see.

favorite ND memory was utah last year. I was about to go to sleep on Friday night when my girlfriend texted me asking if I wanted to go. So I woke up at 6 AM to take the drive through Indiana with her and her dad. The game was amazing, the loudest the crowd has ever been while I've been at ND stadium, and the best part was I didn't even think I'd be going 24 hours earlier.

Best ND memory: heading up to South Bend as a kid with my family to see the Penn St. game, in what turned out to be the snow bowl game. Awesome experience for a kid...or anybody! I remember Sean Astin (Rudy) was at the pep rally Friday night, as they were filming the movie at that time. We didn't stick around to go to the stadium Sunday and be extras in the movie...but still one of the best memories of my life.

Best sports memory: Michael Johnson shattering the 200m record at the Olympics in Atlanta

I saw his full story years ago... that night he is sitting on some beach all down and out and full of self pity... a woman walks up and they atart talking... they eventually get married... he would have never met his future wife had he not pulled up lame.

My my my we certainly have a lot of closet Michigan fans here today. I thought I was in the Twilight Zone for a minute!
The Utah game was something else, and it was the first time I've sat on the right side of the field to get pics of the band doing the "ND" and "Irish" that I've always seen upside down or sideways! It was cold, but it was a GREAT time!

First NFL game in New York metro area after 9/11/01...Monday night game Jets vs 49ers. Great tribute at the beginning of the game and the 49ers kicked some Jets butts!

Coincidentally I also went to the first Yankee home game, not the first baseball in NYC, after 9/11. Also, a great moment.

Wow! I didn't know that part of it. Makes it an even cooler story. It is one of my favorite sports moments.

If I remember right the woman, his future wife, was miserable over some horrible event too...

in the end great story of faith.
