ESPN has Manti listed as one of the sleepers for the Heisman if ND makes a BCS run. What do you guys think?

Would love to see it. Not going to bust your thread but it suck that the best player in college football HAS to come from a team IF they make a BCS run. The award is supposed to go to the BEST player in CFB.

I'd vote for TEO!!!!!!

An inside linebacker will never win the Heisman. Stats won't be pretty enough even if ND is the #1 defense in the country and he's the best player on it.

I completely agree that it should be best player no matter what. Suh deserved it a few seasons ago. I was mad that Ingram got it just cause he was the starting RB behind a great O-line. Just like those people that claim Emmit Smith is greatest RB of all time. Complete BS!!!!!

Ingram wasn't even the best RB at his position that year. I give that honor to Toby Gearhart.

I think it is official. I have a man Crush on Manti. Cannot wait to see him destroy the Skunkbears and their predator QB again

Best QB or RB on a top 2 almost always wins barring a freakish season. In my mind that makes Landry Jones and Trent Richardson the favorites for the Heisman next year.

200 tackles, 15 sacks, 8 interceptions should do it.

You decide the odds...

I would include Geno Smith from WV in there somewhere. He's in a conference that could make him a true top candidate.

Manti would win it if he played tailback too.

And a NC win.

More than likely though, Cierre or Dayne would take the cake if we win it all.

As OMF says, the pretty boys always get the glory.

Unless Teo gets 15 sacks, 5 interceptions and runs a couple punts back for touchdowns. I don't see him winning a Heisman unfortunately.

Impossible, even if he racked up 200 tackles and Notre Dame won the national championship.

Defense to win is a huge longshot, an Inside LB even longer.

As others have pointed it, the Heisman is a team award for QBs and RBs. If we do well enough for an Irish player to even be in the conversation, it'll be Crist, Wood, or Floyd, not Te'o... even though he may be the most deserving.

Dayne Crist is the only player on the team that I consider even remotely capable of winning the Heisman Trophy.

Michael Floyd won't win the Biletnikoff, much less the Heisman Trophy. For every game that he puts up 100 yards and 2 TDs, there's always a game or two where he puts up 60 yards without a score.

Lest we forget that in 2007, Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech had 1,962 yards and 22 TDs and wasn't even invited to the ceremony. Just last year, Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon, despite missing a game, had over 1,700 yards and 20 TDs. Again, no invite.

But we're also the University of Notre Dame. I think that increases the odds. Still not good though.

Tate won the Biletnikoff in 2009 with 93 rec, 1496 yards, and 15 TDs. Those types of figures are definitely within reach if he stays healthy. I doubt we'll see him disappearing for long stretches of time in the 2nd year of BK's system.

I dont like espn or want to agree with them on many topics but I have been saying all along since this guy came to South Bend that if Notre Dame football becomes dominant in his run he will be a Heisman candidate. He is that good and college football with all its troubles needs a throwback good guy. Now the team must do its part and Manti Teo must do his for this to happen. It could be a perfect storm for the 2012 season. I would not be surprised to see him at the ceremony this year-part of the process is the college football world knows it has a bad image and this guy is 'Golden'. Plus he is a player and a tremendous college linebacker.

Could happen with the way the QB situation is looking.

Depends if he is double covered most of the year, which he will be.

Floyd was getting doubled when we didn't have another legitimate receiving threat. I suppose Riddick, TJ, and Eifert could all backslide, but I don't think it's likely.

Could happen with the way the QB situation is looking.

If I had to bet on it, I'd go with Crist staying healthy all year and putting up solid numbers.
