24/7 gives a good overall look at the recruiting for top prospects, and states we are in decent shape with DGB, and that Mauk is a huge Irish lean. Does not mention us with Peat, but I think we have a great shot with him. Theus has some interest, and is best friends with ND prospect and legacy Heck, but we are a longshot there. The ND prospects notes:
National Notes: If we had to guess
If we had to guess right now...
It’s April 12 and signing day for the 2012 cycle is a ways down the road. Still, it’s never too early to throw out predictions on where the top five uncommitted recruits will land. Some of these are likely going to be dead wrong, but if we can bat around .500 (or heck, maybe better) on them, that’s probably a success this early.
Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Springfield (Mo): Oklahoma
Ultimately, Green-Beckham, the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect, is open at this point. The reason the Sooners are the guess is that they are close to home and have been after the 6-foot-6 pass catcher for some time. Alabama, Notre Dame, Missouri, Arkansas, Florida and others are schools to watch out for.
Eddie Goldman, DT. Washington (D.C.) Friendship: Auburn
Goldman is another who is wide open. The Tigers appeared to make quite an impression on him during his unofficial visit yesterday and he told Bryan Matthews of AuburnUndercover that Auburn and Clemson, two schools he’s recently visited, would definitely be in his top 10. Given the Tigers’ momentum on the recruiting trail right now, they are the pick, but it could change in a week. Goldman is visiting a slew of schools this spring, so this could go a number of directions.
Andrus Peat, OT, Tempe (Ariz.) Corona Del Sol: USC
The Trojans have been in hot pursuit of Peat, who has said on the record he will make his own decision and won’t necessarily follow his older brother, Todd Peat, to Nebraska. Peat has not given any hints about where he is leaning, but has had good things to say about the Trojans early and we hear USC feels good, so they are the pick here. You also can’t rule out the Cornhuskers because of the family ties. Oregon, Florida, Florida State and others could be factors as well, especially the Ducks.
John Theus, OT, Jacksonville (Fla.) Bolles: Georgia
The Bulldogs are in great shape to land the talented offensive tackle after signing his older brother, Nathan Theus, in the 2011 class. There are no locks in recruiting, but he’s about as close as one can get unless something changes with the Bulldogs program between now and the time he signs. In that case, Florida and others are players.
Nuts and Bolts
