This is a pretty benign opening round by ESPN. Bringing "mom" into any story softens criticism immediately. Maybe things are improving on the "let's get ND" front.

I would not be surprised if all the much more egregious recruiting black-eyes floating about right now are casting an anesthetic aura around other criticisms of college football. How much bad news does ESPN really want to accrue to one of their big meal-tickets [college football] ? They need "feel good" stories now.
