it's the NFL, you have to succeed at the position that they put you. Or you're done.

... what? While your statement is true, it has nothing to do with what I said. There are plenty of guys who are awesome in one system and terrible in another... so to reiterate as long as Brian Smith gets put in a position that fits his skills I think he's going to have a very solid career.

Walls 4.39 40 looks pretty impressive. I am sure that will make some of the teams look more into him

I see Rudy, Ian, Walls, and Smith getting drafted. Rudy in the late first/early second, Ian in the 4th round, Walls in the late 5th/early 6th, and Smith at the end of the 7th.

Also just seen that Walls' shuttle time was 10.82, which if he was invited to the combine would have been second best among ALL players invited and his 40 time would have been 7th best among all players invited.

I am not sure why everybody thinks Walls is such a mediocre corner. I honestly thought he was one of the best players on our defense this year. He was a very consistent tackler (I never got scared when a run came his way and almost every time one did I found myself yelling "nice tackle!" at the tv screen) and he made many big plays this year. I guess I am missing something but based off his performance this year I definetly thought he was going to get drafted

I misunderstood what you were getting at...my apologies. I will ground myself for one week...after my fraternity softball tourney this weekend.

Smith, is well.....Smith. There is really nothing bad you can say about him , but then again, there is nothing special about him either. I can see him jumping on with someone as a pratice squad guy...maybe cracking the roster at one point.

I think Manti will be just about the only backer worth a look in next couple of years when it comes to the NFL.

NFL scouts offer first-round insight

NFL scouts offer first-round insight

I know this doesn't have anything to do with Pro-day, but I didn't want to start a thread based on ESPN insider article which many of you wouldn't be able to view.

2011 NFL draft: Todd McShay runs through the first round with a pair of current NFL scouts - ESPN

Anyway Todd McShay got together with a couple of NFL Scouts and they completed a Mock draft of the first round. Here is the summary of what they did:

I reached out to a pair of current NFL scouts (one from the AFC, one from the NFC) and both were nice enough to give up some of their very limited free time early this week to join me in running through a mock first round, and there were definitely some interesting results.

The ground rules were simple. A three-way coin flip determined the order of picks and the scouts did not pick for their own teams for obvious reasons. Trades were not a consideration for these purposes, and picks were made based on what we think will happen when considering a number of factors, including player evaluations, team needs, scheme fits and buzz from around the league.

So you might be wondering why I'm posting this. Simple, one of the NFL scouts took Kyle Rudolph at 14 to the Rams! Here is the breakdown of this pick:

NFC scout: "I gave TE Kyle Rudolph to the Rams at No. 14, maybe a bit high for someone who missed most of the season with a hamstring, but I just believe in the guy. Rudolph has a chance to be an impact player and longtime starter in the league, and I think he could do for St. Louis what Rob Gronkowski did for New England as a rookie.

"I know the Rams have other needs but there is only one tight end in this class who's close to the complete package, and giving second-year QB Sam Bradford another weapon and a security blanket would make some sense."

(Note: this pick made me scratch my head initially given where I rank Rudolph, but the more I thought about it the more I could see the logic and envision it happening.)

It's looking more and more likely that Rudolph will go in the first round, thanks to his great pro-day performance. I thought the Giants might pick him at 19, but he may be gone by then.

Kyle will clearly have a great NFL career.

Can you imagine had he returned...

True.

BTW, this is Ian's take on the Spring Game from his blog:

I like how Aaron Lynch plays. He makes a lot of plays but he may not be in exactly that right gap that Coach Diaco or Coach Elston may want him in.

Just for him to be able to go out and make tackles and be able to run around and have fun is half of it. I think this summer he’ll work hard on memorizing his plays and getting stronger.

On offense, quarterback Andrew Hendrix has gotten much better than where he was last fall, running the scout team. In the spring game, he looked really comfortable. When he was back there against us for scout team in the fall, you could tell he was a freshman, so he made a few mistakes.

But you could see at times he had glimpses of great throws, and he’d break out of the pocket and make a great run. So he has all the ability. He needs to put it all together, which he will soon.

Freshman quarterback Everett Golson brings that elusiveness. You could probably do a package with him or put him out at receiver. I don’t know what Coach Kelly has in store for Everett, but it’s hard to keep athletes like Everett off the field.
