Great article about a great man. He will be a fine representative of ND.
I like his statements about Kelly:

"My senior year under coach (Brian) Kelly helped me so much. He expected a lot from us, to be a leader on and off the field. And I think that helped me mature over the season. And I just wish I could go back for another four years and be under coach Kelly, because I can only imagine what he’s going to do with this class and future classes."
He also had a few nice things to say about the incoming recruits.
I notice he didn't say anything about coach Weis.

I still think about my career at ND a lot. Actually, I have my helmet at my house. And if I’m watching TV, I may look over at my helmet, and it will hit me then -- the Senior Bowl was the last time I was able to put on that gold helmet.

I actually still have my jersey, and every now and then I’ll go put it on and then I’ll put my helmet on and look in the mirror and stuff like that. It’s crazy that four years went by so fast.

Your time did go by too quickly Ian, thanks for the memories!

Great article! Man I love that kid, such a great kid! Not sure about his selection of Drew Rosenhouse, but he is happy with it.

He is very happy with his selection as is his mother. I know a young journalist who Mrs Williams asked to join them for dinner with the agent after Ian's career was over. He interviewed Ian when he was a high school senior and they've maintained a relationship through the years.

The journalist, btw, is a long time member of Irish Envy.

Where is he expected to be drafted at this point? 4th round? I know there is still the combine, personal workouts and ND pro day.

I've met him before around town, he's always such a nice guy when fans say hello. That means a lot to us that live around South Bend, at least it does to me, which is why I liked Ty Willingham so much. When I see them in the mall or at the stores and I say hello, or good game, and they take time to say hi back or even have a conversation it is really cool. Ty and I had about a 20 minute conversation once in the Hallmark store. Just little things like that, leave an impression. Ian is a good guy, he'll fare well in the NFL. Sad to see him go, but wish him the best!

I had a similar experience with Gerry Faust; even though his time with ND didn't end well, he is a great supporter of Notre Dame football. He is really a very nice man.

I had similar thoughts.

Not sure how to take the absence of Weis comments. I suspect it wasn't an indictment. Probably just appropriate praise for the one at the last dance. On the other hand, perhaps a sign of his upbringing, "If you don't have nothing nice to say ..."

I can't imagine even being that close to a player or coach. I've been about twenty feet from Jerry Rice, Tony Gonzalez, Randy Moss, Priest Holmes, and Willie Roaf.

I know, I'm a hopeless Chiefs fan, but really.

I would be toungue-tied if I ever ran into Brian Kelly in person.

I'd probably just collapse and start sucking my thumb, crying "mommy" the entire time.
