if there is one thing im a nerd about its rpg's.

I especially love jrpgs, like the final fantasy series, the tales series, etc. etc.

i've still got my ps2 and a gamecube and im snatching up ps2/gc jrpgs on the cheap whenever i can. it seems the newer generation consoles don't really have much of a selection.

I currently have a handful of old titles that i never got to play when they first came out.

tales of the abyss (ps2)
tales of symphonia (gc)
Skies of arcadia(gc)
Final fantasy xii(ps2)
final fantasy x(ps2)
Arc the lad twilight of the spirits(ps2)
suikoden iv(ps2)

I have no idea where i am going to find the time to complete all of these, i was wondering if there are any other nuts like me out there that could help me pick one to start with? (i am currently about 6 hours into TofAbyss.)

Also if you guys know of any good jrpgs that you suggest i play. i have a ps2, a gamecube, a ps3 and a 360. (hated ffxiii and loved tales of vesperia, but theres not much else out there)

I like some sports sims... but I can't do anything that deals in Frodo... I can handle reality.

Knights of the Old Republic games are my favorite video games ever. If you've never played them, theyre pretty fun. Even if you don't like star wars

I have almost every PSX RPG released in America. BTW, Suikoden IV is pure garbage and a turd in one of my favorite series ever.

Haha at virgin comment.

I heard that suikoden iv is trash, I am thinking of returning it and getting V instead but it's still 30$ at gamestop used. I can get a decent 360 or ps3 game for that much. As a matter of fact I saw white knight chronicles new for that much. I heard it is trash also but the makers of that game also made rogue galaxy which was pure awesome.

Kotr is one game I haven't played yet. What system is it for? Is it in the same vein as the mass effect games?

Fable 1 and 2 were really good but I heard that the last one tailed off. The new Elder Scrolls should be sick.

I almost brought up dragon warrior... unless I am wrong (lol... like that can happen) Dragon Warrior was the first rpg ever...

I played dragon warrior when I was young... very hard game when you got to the higher levels... but I did enjoy it.

final fant..... not so much... every friend I ever had that played those games always complained about how myself and others who didn't had such a better time with women...

gee I wonder why.

The Mass effect games are clearly the direct spawn of the Kotr games. Kotr are more RPGish though (at least compared to ME2, never played the original).

The new Elder Scrolls should be sick.

F yea. Morrowind is still, I'm pretty sure, my second favorite game ever. I thought Oblivion was a bit of a let down, but only based on the ultra high bar that Morrowind had set for it. Hopefully Skyrim outdoes them both.

I used to play Everquest (Evercrack) from 2000-2004 till my retirement from the game. (I play eq now from time to time on an EMU server; but im not an endgame raid player anymore) I never really got into WoW, I played for a bit but it was too 'cartoony' for me. I lvld up a warlock to lvl 44, and never logged back in.

Nowadays its just sports sim games, and mainly just ea Sports NHL(xbox360). I'm embarassed to admit but I play just about every night. EA NHL is really good(and fun), you can get in a game in about 18-20mins. I can play 3 games which feels like alot, and its only been an hour. (my EA NHL hockey team is the NJ Devils - lethal)

Truth. I still remember the weekend my ex came to visit me during my freshman year at college. It was the Tennessee game. I explained to her, look, this is a huge game, I've got to watch it and she was like cool...no problem. By the end of the first quarter she was trying to distract me, by the end of the first half she was bored and grumpy that I'd ignored her "distractions." Hilariously, I was confused by this at the time and couldn't understand why she didn't want to take a little half-time break with me...

haha heysus, this sounds like your'e venting at an AA meeting!

never got into everquest, but i played the crap outta diablo ii, i always tried to go hostile and kill other players. a buddy of mine was nuts about WoW, and i used to have a dreamcast with the online capability out in my garage he would come over and play Phantasy Star Online for like hours on end. it was hilarious.

i am more into single player stuff, that online play is boring to me. maybe im just anti social.

the fallouts, fable, mass effect, kotr, oblivion type games fall under the category Wrpg or Western rpg.

Games like Final fantasy, dragon quest, persona, and the tales series fall under the Jrpg categorie or Japanese rpg.

I particularly am fond of the jrpgs, but i really enjoy the mass effect series, and i was into the earlier fallouts and wrpgs.

jrpgs are basically playable anime, and wrpgs are usually more serious. both genres have their gems and both genres have their crap.

Wrpgs have gained a lot of popularity and most new jrpgs dont make it across the pond to the U.S. that is why i have been grabbing up old ones that i never got the chance to enjoy.

Dragon Quest VIII is a great traditional JRPG for the PS2.

The Persona series is great, especially 3 and 4 for the PS2.

If you have a PS3 I would suggest checking out Valkyria Chronicles. It is a little more strategy than traditional JRPG, but it is the best example of a modern day JRPG.

If you are looking to branch out to western RPGs, you pretty much can't go wrong with anything by Bioware. Knights of the old republic is great, but avoid KOTOR 2 as it was not made by Bioware and is basically broken. The Mass Effect series is the modern flagship series, and is well worth playing. If you are more of a fantasy guy, I am currently playing Dragon Age Origins and am having a lot of fun with it, though I personally prefer Mass Effect.

i have never played a dragon quest game or a persona title, but i really need to. the later personas are still upwards to 30$, Valkyria chronicles was too much strategy, but i really didnt give it much of a chance, maybe i should. love the mass effects, i rented dragon age and really liked it but never got around to buying it. i am downloading kotr as we speak!
