Saw this in that Ivan Maisel article talking about USC, thought it was interesting, thinking about purchasing 2 nosebleeds for the Irish, jic.

"The Allstate Sugar Bowl announced Wednesday that it has opened what amounts to a futures market for tickets for the 2012 BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans. You can purchase a “reservation” to buy a ticket for any team at face value. The cost of the reservation rises and falls based on demand. Longshot ticket reservations start at $30. Reservations for LSU, which has played in the past two title games in the Superdome, max out at $215. Reservations are non-refundable, natch."

That's what I was thinking, $60. New Orleans and Notre Dame, how could you go wrong if we made it, not only that, if we do, I would go, and have to pay $2000 for a pair, vs. face.

And you may be low on that price for 2....if Auburn-Oregon were going for $5000+......

You're gambling. Wouldnt 30 bucks be a more worthwhile risk than maxing your credit card on StubHub? I'd do it every year for the rest of my life if the option is available. Especially when you are GUARANTEED the right to purchase tickets if your team gets to the dance. It's not a lottery. It's guaranteed if your team makes it. I'm in.

So it is a lottery, because you only get tickets if your team wins. Just like the Jackpot, I only get it if my numbers come up.

I'm definitely in, and have wasted money on far worse things. What an awesome idea btw they have with this.

*I almost want to place a few "bets" on teams, and collect the winnings (aka scalp the tickets) if they make it.

The way I read it is that you are reserving the right to buy tickets, meaning it is a two step process: (1) pay $30 x (no. of tix), and if your team plays in the game, (2) buy tickets at face value. So in the end you would certainly save some money compared to buying tickets on stubhub or on the street, but these are not "$30" tickets. It is putting up $30 to reserve the right to buy tickets at face value.

(Example: if face value tickets are $100, you put up the $30 and, if your team makes it, you buy the ticket for $100. Total price would be $130 per ticket. Like I said, still better than buying it on the street.)

The fact that I live in Houston, Nawlins is only a 6 hour drive...makes this an even better option.

I'm going in on 4. Hell, I spent 120 bucks in 30 sec at a table in Vegas in Dec!

Go Irish!

(but what would really suck is to drop a game in the final month...talk about a sting that would never go away...)

Honestly, I'm thinking of putting down for two tix each for Bama and Oklahoma. If one of them makes it, I'll be in the money, and the payoff is higher than taking Vegas odds at that price, and if they both make it, I'll be doing the "bull dance."

*Of course if neither makes it, I'll be out $300, but that is worth making possibly $15,000.
