50 yards per punt?

Sounds like the second coming of George Gipp (greatest kicker in Irish history).

If he comes in and punts well that would be great...Turk needs to get better we were soooooooo bad last year in the punt game.

Geez - I don't know how you measure the upside of a high school kicker but I assume a college weight program is only going to help. He's a monster! Still think he's big enough to be a fine fullback. :)

Let's just hope he continues to concentrate on his kicking. Turk can bench over 400 LBS and his kicking has gone to ****.

A stud punter is a dominate defenses best friend. Flips field positions and would allow us to make teams go on 80+yard drives.

Dang, he just punted that ball nearly 80 yards in the air. ND in CT is right though, he's gonna need to work on his hang time. Still...80 yards. That was impressive

Holy **** the one punt looked to be 77 yds b4 it hits the ground. This may be the first i've been excited about a punter.

The good thing is that there is competition at the punting position like everywhere else on the field and at the very least it's going ot ensure that each guy brings his best "foot" (pun) forward everyday at practice.

Last year Turk new the job was his and he practiced like it showing no improvement at all.

Hang Time

Hang Time

IDK I don't like the hang time on his punts.

Remember, these are junior video's and Kyle did not like the hang time on his punts either. He has since worked with kicking coach Brandon Kornblue to increase hang time. Kyle averaged 55 yards per punt in this years state championship game at Ford Field and was close to 48 yards for the season. Kyle understands that the playing time and a starting position at Notre Dame will need to be earned and he has begun the training to put himself in the position to earn that spot or do whatever Coach Kelly determines best for the team.

Plymouth Upsets CC, Reaches State Football Semifinals - Plymouth, MI Patch

Just a reminder of how much of a stud we have here. Love how the coach said once they get inside the 40, they trust Kyle. Ruffers job is most likely safe but it would not surprise me in the least to see Kyle out there as the long field goal specialist, kicking from 50+.

Is this kid kicking off the ground on his field goals or using the regulation 2 inch tee? If he is using the tee, expect his distance to go down by 10 to 15 yards. It is a huge adjustment for high school kickers to make at the next level. Kid still has the strongest leg I may have ever seen.

He will have atleast two years to get that part worked out...punting on the other hand is where i'd like to see him make an impact as a freshman.

I think he takes over kickoff duties. I'm not sold on him as a punter yet. He seems to hit a lot of line drives, not much hang time.

Division 1 "camp" kickers...Like Mr. Brindza....do not wait until they are enrolled in a college program to take the Tee away! haha

I am confident that apart of his kicking practice regime is a series of drills involving him kicking off the ground.

He is not going to show up to his first practice, and ask why he cant use a tee....

Eitherway it's going to be huge to get him in there for the spring and work on all phases of kicking and push those already in camp, other than Ruffer.

I agree with you 100%, but that is practice. All that I am stating is that his highlight videos are not in practice and I will bet he is not kicking off the ground in those videos. I'm not taking anything away from him as my last sentence plainly states in the prior post. Just that his distance in the field goal dept. may be a little shorter to start then he is showing on tape. ( I doubt he will be knocking down 60 yarders with ease. ) I am very aware of the practices of kickers of his caliber. Most high school coaches are not going to let these kids put the ball on the ground for a number of reasons in their season games. The holder placement being the biggest. Do I think he is going to show up in the spring and wonder where his tee went, no, I know better then that. Just stating his distance may be affected, since the mechanics are completely different. That being said, I think he will have a tremendous career at ND and beyond.

You might be surprised...the BLOCK helps with elevation, but does not help with your distance.....its a simple physics problem.

the more you get under it, the higher its goes. The more you put behind it, the longer it goes. The BLOCK as zero effect on how much you put behind it.

Kickers of Kyle's caliber are also not judged off of game film. They go to camps where they kick off the ground for college coaches to see.

Many players in general are not judged off of game film to be honest with you. Films or "highlights" are for fans! :)

I'm not talking about coaches evaluations, this all started with someone posting that he should be in for kicks from the 50, none of us on here coach D1 as far as I know. As far as the tee goes and the effects it has on your kicking, we can agree to disagree. I know from experience that the mechanics are completely different. As far as caps on "BLOCK", I don't know if you are yelling or if you are just trying to prove your superior knowledge. Not going to debate it anymore, this is getting completely off the point. We can have the kicking debate if you like, but not in a recruits post. Also, I am aware that a recuit is not judged off film, once again, the last time I checked everyone on this board was a fan.

Watched Kelly talk about Kyle today and saw his tape.

WOW.

This kid maybe the sleeper of the bunch. He might be the biggest game changer on the team in a few years.

Just sick nasty tape.

Would Kelly use up Kyle's redshirt by using him solely for kick-off duty?

Just wondering, what your guys thoughts are.

I think Kelly thinks the guy can contribute right away, rightfully so. His kicks are unreal.

After watching this kid's highlight tape yesterday, I can't believe he's not the unanimous #1 kicker in the nation. Espn has him ranked 6th. Their #1 kicker committed to USC. I don't know a lot about the USC kicker except I saw him miss a XP in the Underarmour All-American game.

Kyle seems like another underrated talent from our class.

God, I watching the press conference now, this kid's leg is ridiculous. Screw ND, I want him kicking off for the Giants next Fall! I seriously can't remember the last time I saw Tynes get a touchback...
