Ugh you...

Both were over 10 pounds heavier and were used as one cut pounders on their high school teams. They both also were noted to as recruits that needed to get bigger to play the position. Neither were considered hybrid backs while Amir is universally viewed as one. Pead was also the most physically gifted back on Cinci's roster, Amir would not be at ND. Furthermore, if other teams planning on using him as a WR/Ath.... then why would Kelly... who prefers the pass first spread, keep him off the field rather than use him as a slot reciever?

pfff...

Pead was a one cut pounder? What are you going by? A few highlight films you watch and an article you read? I coaches against this guy for fours years. He was a downrightright stud. Not a one cut guy. He is much bigger than he was in hs now.

I'm saying "ugh" because I have no idea where you are getting this "10 pounds heavier" information from.

Carlisle is listed at 181 on Rivals/ESPN and 190 pounds on scout. Allen was listed at 180 pounds on Rivals/ESPN and 185 pounds on scout. Pead was listed between 184-185 on each.

Amir is listed as 175 on his intro on the first page of this thread. Last time I checked (and maybe you should check my math) 185-175 = 10. No?

He was one of the best athletes on the field in HS, which allowed him to make more plays. Coming out of HS (like I said), he was projected as a one-cut pounder type back perfect for spread offenses. That is exactly what Kelly used him as too.

So the 1st page of this thread(created months ago) is a more accurate assessment of his weight than the sites that actually update the information?

I have "sources" just about everywhere.:awesomewo

If the "source" your referring to is the poster on DD who has real connections and real sources than that should be noted. That guy is legit and also a poster on this site, so instead of stealing his post, quote his post.

You can go with whatever you like. Like I said, its my opinion, so you can like or dislike. Either way, I stand by my statement.

Are you willing to wager 10,000 vbucks that, if he commits, he ends up a slot guy in the offense?

I don't care where he ends up as long as he signs. Stating that "both were over 10 pounds heavier coming out of highschool" is wrong whichever way you slice it.

IrishFan33 on DD is posting that he heard Amir wanted to commit to USC yesterday but wanted his parents blessing so they came along for the trip. Not looking good.

Well if the rumors about him to SC are true I truly pity him. He's gonna have a fun four years competing against Tuitt Lynch and Williams.

It would be real nice to get him, but I am not mad about the offensive weapons we currently have in this class. With Atkinson, Daniels, Golson, Mcdaniels, and Koyack... we have some real talent already

I think that BK will make a push for Amir. If Amir is not a RKG he will not commit. With the guys ND has, next year will be a push and shove match for recruits that want to come to ND. No worries!

Go Irish!!!

You would think Joe McKnight's experience at Southern Cal would start to deter this type of player from going there. How many 4* and 5* athletes do they have out there now? As someone else pointed out earlier in this thread, it's not like SC has been known to use smaller athletes/slot receivers as receivers. That pro-style offense isn't really built for guys like McKnight and Carlisle to thrive (in my humble opinion, of course).

I think a lot of people are disappointed because it really seemed like Amir would end up in South Bend after Harbaugh bolted. Not that I wouldn't welcome a player like Carlisle with wide, wide, WIDE open arms, I just think Kelly is the type of coach that can do more with less on the offensive side of the ball. If we don't land Huggins or Carlisle, we definitely need a RB in the 2012 class... but Wood has 3 years of eligibility, Roberson had 4, and who knows how Killa Cam will turn out (I see him as a future slot guy, like most here). It's not like RB in the spread is (a) the most important position or (b) dependent on one feature back.

With Atkinson III, Riddick and McDaniel all able to play RB if needed, I'm not worried at all.

We need another down hill RB (Hughs). I know that it seemed that his productivity was held for the last four games of his ND career but his work ethic will be missed.

Four-star RB Amir Carlisle of California, a Stanford commit, will take an unofficial to USC on Saturday (he has already been to Troy on an official) before making his final decision on Sunday from among the Cardinal, the Trojans and Notre Dame.

Carlisle's father tells ESPN Recruiting's Greg Biggins that Amir wanted his folks to get a feel for the USC program, leading Biggins to deduce, "Carlisle has always seemed enamored with USC and it's interesting that he's bringing his parents with him on the visit. It almost looks like he's trying to get their approval to make the switch to USC, and if the athlete was locked in for Stanford, it doesn't make sense that his parents would waste a weekend following him out to Los Angeles."

Roberson is 220+ lbs and was even listed as a FB on Scout when he came in. It seems the coaching staff really likes him and he will get some touches this season. As I said, he has 4 years of eligibility left. As for 2011 itself, Jonas Gray is extremely experienced and has looked good when given the opportunity to play. He's, what, 235 iirc? As long as he stays healthy *fingers crossed*, I'd imagine he will split carries with Wood.

Depth will become a problem in 2012 with Gray graduating, but that just works to our recruiting advantage. "Hey, Mr 17-year-old highly touted running back. How would you like to be the 3rd string RB at Notre Dame as true freshman?"

Of course, this is all assuming we land neither Huggins nor Carlisle and that McDaniel will be be groomed for the slot (I doubt he sees the field as freshman anyway).

I really want to see what Roberson has to offer. Wood will be our fast abn shifty guy. But we need that guy that can punish someone for stepping in front of them and that can fight their way from the 4 to the endzone.

sc is waiting on a commitment from him. They thought it was a done deal and are now on a holding pattern. With the visit of BK, IDK, but I think he will be IRISH.

That's not really a scoop. That same story is all over the SC boards, and has been all day. Their mods expect a verbal from him tomorrow...

Here's a positive thought for my brothas, enlightened by a poster at B&G:

If Amir was so sold on USC, why would he be waiting to hear from Coach Kelly tomorrow?

The thought is, we are still in contention, and that if the young man likes what he hears from Coach Kelly, he may be Irish... The condoms don't yet have him, and they were hoping for a committment today. It didn't happen. And now, a few must be terrified considering Kelly is meeting with him in the morning. Their fears may be realized.

In other words, say a prayer for Kelly's safe travels and wise words, so that we may use this young man for our bidding in a few years.

Thank you. With that, I need some rest, going skiing for a couple of days and will be checking my droid and black berry for any and all updates. My sister-in-law is here (usc alumnus) and taking her to Keystone for a couple of days. Hoping that Amir takes the right path.

Go IRISH!
