Wish him the best, it's going to hurt our offense next year, but I think Eiffert is up to the task and will be able to replace him. Losing Floyd would hurt us much more.

Here's to hoping he goes to a good team - i.e. let's hope Gonzalez does retire and the falcons pick him up at the end of the first round.

Thank you. Everyone is forgetting Alex Welch who the coaches are crazy about. Good luck Kyle.

Fingers still crossed for Floyd.

Really sorry to see him go, but wish him nothing but the best.

Does anyone know if he'll be able to work out at a pro day or participate in the combine? I haven't heard how his rehab is going or what the timeline is on his recovery.

Wish him nothing but the best in the future. I just wish we could of got one healthy season from him before leaving, but I don't blame him for going.

I knew when he got hurt that was probably the last time we'd see him play for the Irish. Sad day, but happy for him. I bet he really tears it up in the NFL. Tight end U!!!

1st round pick?

They grow up so fast. Seems like we hardly got to see him play really. Good for him, hope he drafts well. I don't worry about TE depth, just hope Floyd sticks around a year.

Eifert could be a All American eventually we really didn't have to have Rudolph back Floyd is more needed at WR

Great player, but one other thought [other than reinforcing how much we appreciate his great play, and character]:
We'll never be able to replace Casper...
We'll never be able to replace Bavaro...
We'll never be able to replace Fasano...
We'll never be able to replace Carlson...
......much longer list possible.
Bless you, Kyle Rudolph, have a great career, and your old school will continue to grow tight ends to play alongside you in the pros. Eifert, Welch, and Koyack are all in varying states of development on the Astonishing Notre Dame TE Assembly Line. "Ain't no one does tight ends like ND".

For some reason we have become Tight End University. Which is very good for us just wish when we are in side the 10 yard line we go after them more.

I'll never forget the 90 some-odd touchdown reception Rudy took to the house this year against Michigan; That was the highlight of my first trip to South Bend...

Amazing speed for such a big fella! I hope he has a safe, and healthy NFL career. He certainly has what it takes.

How true that is. seemed like he was just beginning as a freshmen. If you asked me to sculp a football player i would look no farther than Rudy. If any NFL team needing a TE passes on him they're high...

Good luck to him and hoping for a long healthy career!

Inside source is Welch is ahead of where Rudy was; can you immaging Rudy with a redshirt year?

For some reason we have become Tight End University. Which is very good for us just wish when we are in side the 10 yard line we go after them more.

That is because of Lou's epiphany. Remember the old joke? The one that took place during the stadium reconstruction; while Lou was coach? Have someone who remembers tell it to you.

(For anyone who keeps score I get extra points, tying the TE conversation to Lou, a funny joke, AND the current religious holiday. Like better than triple word score!)

What is more amazing, his speed was still gimped by that hamstring injury and he still flew down the field. His involvement in the Irish offense these past couple seasons brings about many fond memories.

I always liked Rudy but if this is the case, I lost a lot of respect for him:

"ESPN's Scouts Inc. rates Rudolph as the top tight end in the country, and he said the NFL's Advisory Committee told him he would be a second-round pick."

Second round? I don't get this coming out your junior year to be a second round pick. Just lame. And it's not like he had a monster year and is red hot. To be honest, he's never really played up to his potential for an extended period of time.

Would rather have seen him man up, be part of something special with the Irish next year and go out with a big year.

Either way, I think he is easily replaceable.... Losing Floyd on the other hand would really hurt.

There is so much talent this year and pretty much everyone has a tight end. Why would any one take him the first round not very smart.

Umm... Who cares what round.

He is projected as the #1 TE.

He can't do any better than that. He has to go. And we'll be fine without him.
