#12 ND Hockey tied #10 Boston University 3 - 3 at the Shillelagh Tourney today. In the Shootout, Calle Ridderwall scored giving the Irish a 1 - 0 shootout win.

Unfortunately, it was the consolation game of the tournament. ND lost to Minnesota State on a last second goal yesterday and BU was upset by Brown in the other opening round game. Minnesota State beat Brown 7 - 3 for the Championship.

The Irish are in first place heading into the second half of the CCHA season with a weekend series coming up at Northern Michigan.

GO IRISH!

No, was stuck working the Holiday in Philadelphia. Haven't made a game yet this year. The crowds at the home games are usually great - can't wait until the new arena is open.

Well this match was at the Sear's Centre in Illinois. Which is a poor arena to begin with...

I didnt know ND was getting a new Arena, whats wrong with the one in the Joyce, its kind of unique and cool

ND has made a real commitment to having a top flight hockey program.

Ground has been broken for a new state of the art 2 pad facility.

From the Notre Dame Athletics site:

University of Notre Dame Official Athletics Site - Ice Hockey

The old rink at the JAC rocks and rolls for games but is a dump compared to the facilities of most big time hockey schools.

Lefty Smith Rink in the new Compton Center will even the playing surface for the Irish Icers.

Unfortunately, they laid an egg against Alaska last night and split the weekend series. They are a young team this year. Need to be more consistent.

Thanks for the info, One thing i noticed at the Boston v. ND game was that the goal play was very poor. Boston had about 17 shots and 3 goals. While ND had 40ish shots and 3 Goals. Defense wasnt the problem, just a young goaly. Once they mature it will be better!

With the new arena. It won't be very hard to attract the best players out there. Lots of Irish and catholic kids play hockey...

We played BC in the championship game a couple years back. So it won't be the first time we've been there. That was the wrong part.

when was this, I watched two/three years ago when we were the number one team in the country and blew it and that was to get to the frozen four, the big hype then was we'd never been there...

It was in 2008 they beat New Hampshire in the 1st round(which was the top seed), then beat Michigan St. to make it to the Frozen Four, once their they beat Michigan to make it to the finals where they ultimately lost to BC 4-1.

Pretty sure it was the year after. The year we blew it the frozen four was in DC over eastr break so I was stoked... and then we choked on a fat one against Bemidji State... ****ing beavers.

that would be the year... huh, I am a hockey fan (NHL) and pay attention to college as much as a fan from LA can do and I do not remember men's hockey doing A THING since losing to B State

A lot of the elite kids choose to play Jr Hockey in Canada, and who can blame them really. Better leagues. Its a tough call. Guaranteed Top Rate education vs Top Rate Competition.

We went to the frozen four in 2008. Young team, wasnt expected to be there, lost in the title game. In 2009, we had alot of talent coming back, were ranked at the top or near the top of the polls all year, and lost to Bemidji State in the first game of the tournament. Frozen four was in DC that year. Boston U beat Miami for the title.

FYI, we just scored with 5 seconds left in the 2nd period to go up 2-0. 20 minutes left to go to the frozen four.

Now hopefully Michigan will take down North Dakota because if we get past Duluth I do NOT want to see them.

Congrats to the Irish. Now they get the pleasure of losing to my Bulldogs!
