I think that I grasp [a bit] of what you're doing. One wonders if the current partial season indicates that "the game" is relatively unchanged as far as not only the way it's own rules and the way Utah plays it [which is pretty likely] have stayed relatively constant, but also the way that Notre Dame plays it [which intuitively seems UNlikely].
The reason that I resist too much optimism in this particular approach, is that the actual complexity of a football game on a particular match-up is too chaotic to be well-related to past norms {"on any given Sunday" and all that}.
Still your analysis does match my own bonehead observations of this year's performances which says that utter pessimism on our parts is inappropriate in this game, and if we just execute our own business well, then Utah is not superhuman and could well go down.
