Guys,
I see all these notes and there seems to be some confusion on who has 5th eligibility, who is actually a senior and what juniors could leave for the NFL. Plus, how many roster spots do we have.

Here is the current situation. The seniors with 5th year eligibility are as follows.

Mike Ragone - TE. He will be asked to return as he gives us depth at TE with a good blocker.

Taylor Dever - OT. He will be coming back, since he started many games this year.

Matt Romine - OT. He will be coming back, he started a few games and gives solid upper class depth.

Andrew Nuss - OG. He played in mop-up duty. He will likely be asked back since we lose Stewart and he would provide depth as the likely 3rd guard.

Emeka Nwanko - DL. He played some back-up, but will not be asked back with all the depth on DL and several new recruits.

Steve Paskorz - LB. His career is done with injury. He is on medical scholarship.

Gary Gray - DB. He will be back. He has already stated that he wants to return.

Harrison Smith - DB. He stated in an interview last week that he has a 5th year and will be returning.

Brandon Walker - K. He is ONLY asked back if Ruffer goes to the NFL. I see Ruffer returning. He needs another year to improve leg strength on KO's.

As for Juniors.

Michael Floyd - WR. I would say that he has a slight chance to return. The WR draft class has become much deeper this season. In August, I would have given him a ZERO percent chance to return. I am going to give him a 30% chance of returning.

Kyle Rudolph - TE. I said the only way he does not go pro after this year is an injury. The weird thing is that he is injured and yet still listed as the Number 1 TE on everyone's draft board. So, I am not sure he returns if his rehab goes well or is ahead of schedule.

In the end, I would love to have both or either of Floyd or Rudy back, but we will all just have to cross our fingers.

Given the recent de-commitments and how many spots we have on the roster, I believe we take back most of our 5th years.

Don't think Rudy is a first round pick at all. TEs are late first round just based on the position they play. He didn't play enough this year to be assured of the first round. The only way I think he could work his way into the 1st round is if he can come back from his injury in time for the combine and work outs and what not. I don't think he's on that timetable, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Floyd is maybe a 1st rounder but I don't think he is either. They both could still leave even with that though - lots of money in the 2nd or 3rd round too.

Remember though we don't even know if there is going to be a draft and all of the pundits are saying that if there is, there will most likely be a rookie cap which would make leaving minutely less appealing.

I think it's safe to say .... that Michael Floyd & Kyle Rudolph are 1st round talent type of players and what they can do on the field. I keep thinking about the two and if i was a betting man, i think i would put money on Floyd leaving to the NFL and Rudolph staying for his senior year. I know it's great two have a Star Wide Out and a Star TE on field together playing off eachother like NFL's Vernon Davis/Michael Crabtree w/SF, Roddy White/Tony Gonzalez w/Atl., Santana Moss/Chris Cooley w/Was, Mike Williams/Kellen Winslow w/TB .... all have done so well this season playing off eachother and putting up numbers.

I went and looked at a ton of NFL Mock Draft websites (i know i know it's still ever early to Mock Draft) but from what i've been reading is..... that most Experts (if you want to call them that) have Floyd going in the 1st round and most rank him the 3rd best Wide Receiver behind AJ Green and Julio Jones, some say Floyd is the 4th best with Jon Baldwin ahead of him, but most agree Floyd is 3rd best. I also saw Floyd go as high as 10th-13th-17th-20th-27th-32nd etc.....etc.....(there were more but i don't wont to write them all) so he has some range in that 1st round, i did see a few that had Floyd in the 2nd round. One person is crazy and had Floyd the 7th best behind Green, Jones, Baldwin, Broyles, Posey, Jernigan then Michael. CRAZY I TELL YOU !! hahaha

but with Rudolph mostly everyone has him in the 2nd or 3rd rounds .... mostly because of his injurie ..... i did see two websites that have Kyle in the 1st round though. But i wanted to take a look at what people thought of Rudolph before the injurie at the beginning of the season and mostly everyone had Rudolph going in the 1st round, but since the injurie, his stock has dropped him to the 2nd or 3rd rounds......i also read a few websites that didnt even put Rudolph in there Mock Drafts because they think Rudolph will comeback for his senior year.

i think if Floyd goes we will be fine with TJ Jones, John Goodman, Theo Riddick, Bennett Jackson, George Atkinson, DaVaris Daniels, Roddy Toma and Austin Collinsworth. if some of these guys are moved to DB i could see Deion Walker coming back. but it sure would be nice to have Floyd & Rudolph one more season especially next season, i see a bunch of teams we could beat. well i said that about this season also but we've had major injuries that affected that.

wow i didn't talk about anyone from the thread subject (5th year of eligibility) hahaha ummmm well ok i hope we get back Gray and Smith FoSho !!! OL mostly Dever, maybe's Nuss or Romine, Ragone leaves if Kyle stays-Ragone stays if Kyle leaves ~ same way with Floyd and Walker at WR.

Rudy said in an interview that he was clearly told that his injury wouldn't hurt him as far as the NFL goes, and that would not affect his decision; Brian Smith of course does not have any eligibility left; Brandon Walker has stated that he was not given the option for a fifth year, this past season. Harrison and Gary are all that the team really needs (otherwise you are going to send a negative message to the elite talent, about their chances of playing). That would be much more of a detractor than wins versus losses this first year, I would think.

Floyd might not even be a first round guy. I like the way he play hard but you have Green and that Kid from Ok state that will go before him.

Blackmon isn't going pro. Pretty sure he said he would be back next year. Only a sophomore

Bogtrotter,
What negative message is being sent by having several OL 5th year guys??? NONE. Having guys back for their 5th year on the OL happens on every team in America and I am including ELITE teams like Alabama, OSU, USC and the likes. The only non-OL guy left is Ragone. If Rudy is leaving for the NFL, Ragone will definitely get an invite. He brings good blocking, speed and experience.

Some of you guys and your thought about why Rudy or Floyd won't leave are so funny. You are looking thru foggy IRISH goggles.

Simply put Mike Floyd is a second round pick at this point. Green, Jones, Baldwin and Broyles would all be picked ahead of him. Big concern with him is top end speed. If he could run a 4.5 then he could sneak into the first round.

Rudulph even with this injury is a late first round pick or early second, but no matter what he will be the top tight end selected.

well this year might not be the best year for Justin Blackmon (off field) with his whole DUI arrest this year. the kid has put up huge numbers this year, but like someone else said i believe Blackmon is a true sophomore not a redshirt sophomore.

yeah i've noticed Baldwin - Broyles have gained a ton of interest lately, everyone has already known what Green and Jones can do. Hankerson-Toliver-Posey have also gained interest but i think Floyd would go before them. i do agree with you on that Floyd could go as 2nd round, if he keeps having great games like he's been having the past couple of weeks he could go in the 1st round. the draft is definitely tricky and im pretty sure it will be Green then Jones then its a toss up with teams between them three. (Floyd-Broyles-Baldwin) .... but i think Floyd has a great chance at being the #1 guy next year if he stays for his senior year ...... he will have to battle guys like Justin Blackmon (Okl St.), Juron Criner (Arizona), Alshon Jeffery (South Caro), Jeff Fuller (T A&M) etc.....etc....

Rudulph even with this injury is a late first round pick or early second, but no matter what he will be the top tight end selected.

yeah Rudolph was clearly the #1 TE most people wanted ... but the injurie has scared people away not all but some. if he does go this year he would battle guys like Lance Kendricks (Wis), DJ Williams (Ark), Luke Stocker (Ten), Collin Franklin (Iowa St), Zach Pianalto (North Caro) etc....etc.... in the draft. I would still grab Kyle in the draft just off talent wise over some of these guys ....

I personally think both could leave but they would be leaving for an unknown future. I think both could/would benefit from a fifth year at nd for a few reasons. The qb situation will be better. What I mean by thatvis tge system will ve fully in place and functioning. The qb will ve better which will automatically make them better. The defense SHOULD be better which means more offensive possesions which equates to better stats. Also I believe a gull year of injury free football will highly raise thier draft stock. Floyd is a top 5 reciever and Rudy is the top te so I don't know how much higher they can actually go but tge difference in going 30th or 16th is huge in contract money and that's about wheee I could see these guys going this year as to where next year they could both be legit top ten picks IF they return and stay healthy and the teams had a BCS year. I've been drinking so this may not make too much sense but oh well hahaha

...not to be confrontational, but nobody would let a starting right tackle go.
