I watched the game for a second time to analyze all the plays both good and bad and the good news is we weren't that far away from really being in this game. A few plays here and there, a few calls going our way as opposed to going against us, a few better play calls and better clock management and this is a different game. The O-line definitely didn't play well enough to deserve a win but quite a few guys played good football. Most of Stanford's plays had very little margin and where we dropped some passes they did not. If Dayne makes a few more good throws (TJ when he was open long like he did against UM in the 2nd half). This game should have been much closer but we just got out executed. We also suck in the red zone and so does the play calling.

Hopefully Kelly can keep our kids head's in the game and we can turn this around. The team that scares me the most from here on out is Utah not
usc. If we had USC's schedule we would easily be 4-0 and the talk of CFB.

Yeah, I could only muster watching a few plays on DVR, or whatever it's called, but noticed that we are inches away from being one hell of a team. I think the biggest problem is the offense. Saw a replay where Stanford end came in and simply pushed (with his hands!) an ND lineman out of the play. Why can't the OLine learn to stay in a hitting position for the entire play? Geez. Just my opinion, but it is a badass and sexy one..

I'm probably a glass half full kind of guy with alot of "What if's" but it keeps my hopes alive. I think Stanford will beat Oregon and we will figure out that we lost to a top 5 team. Not impressed with the OLB play and wouldn't mind seeing Harrsion Smith back there and move Gray to safety since he is such a solid tackler and that would make room for Walls and Blanton to start. Want to see the best players on the field and none of the OLB's seem to be stepping up. Obviously Teo and Carlo and gangsters in the middle.
the one thing I noticed this week was we were playing much tighter in pass coverage. A dominant win over BC would go a long way to pick up the ND nation spirits.

Man I don't know what game you were watching, but that was an absolute beat down. If anything ND regressed in that game.

I don't think ND regressed. I think Stanford is way ahead of UM and MSU. I think ND will be above .500 but what scared me the most about the Stanford game is how bad our O-Line got pushed around. I'm not expecting a 200 yds rushing. But not getting anything from the running game is ridiculous. I don't care what scheme is being used or how long Harbaugh's system has been in place. ND should be able to handle Stanford's d-line.

You had to be watching it the 2nd time either being drunk or completely stoned. Anyway you slice it, that was a complete azz-wuppin'! The officiating was indeed terrible, but it definitely wasn't the deciding factor! Accept it and move on!

We didn't "regress". We played two mediocre football teams and another team that is absolutely awful (Purdue), then got our asses kicked by a potential Pac-10 champion.

I have moved on but I still think we made some good plays on D and were in this game. Better execution on less than 10 plays and this is a different game. I have seen us beaten down alot worse over the years. At least the outcome was in doubt with 11 minutes to go.
Ok, now I will move on.

And if their 6 FGs were TDs it would have been 60+ points. Can't play what ifs bro. It was a beat down pure and simple.

I tend to agree with my man phork, ND got steamrolled. Stanford was/is a class above the Irish at this time. IMO, Harbaugh is showing that he is one of the best coaches in the country at the moment.

Agree here too boys 'Beat Down'. Beat downs can be good if handled the right way. They can be a motivator. We will see.

I'm kind of one foot in both camps on the "was it a beat down" issue.

Clearly, the game could have been very different had about a half-dozen plays gone the other way day.

But, what is equally clear is that on the vast majority of those "game-changing" moments, Stanford won. The fourth and one is the best example of that, both teams knew what was coming and Stanford flat out won the individual battles.

ND played alright, but when it really came down to it, it was all Cardinal. And in football and in life, that's a beatdown.

Stanford will surprise this year, but we are still losing the battle in the trenches on both sides far too often. The OLine looked ok until Stanford, but we are getting no pressure on the opposing QB even with a blitz. Disturbing. On paper we have as strong a front 7 on the D as anyone in the nation, but it hasn't shown much to date.
