Trying to keep things into perspective. It is hard to maintain my composure watching the games because I'm tired of seeing us lose. But, I would rather Kelly keep the focus and install his plan instead of trying to win immediately by going against what he really believes in.

We really will be lucky to win 6 games, but I'm going to give him time. With that said, I'm tired of waiting. If we regress again next week it will be even harder. Until today I thought we were progressing. Obviously Stanford is the best team we've played so far...I hope that is why we looked so bad today.

It seems to me that Brian Kelly has a plan to input his plan into the O and D more and more every week thru his practices. But it seems like the O is a couple steps behind at grasping it and struggles to do what he expects. The D is not quite as far behind as the O, but still some struggles. Seems if BK would just slow his teaching down a little we may play better. But at the same time I still believe in BK, and say it will be a short time before our team are back on top where they belong. GO IRISH!!!

um, i disagree. before today the O was 8th in the nation as far as passing (at least that's what hammond said on nbc today). the run game has been okay, but today's game was bad from the offense.

as far as the D, i think they aren't that good at all. they allowed 75% 3rd down conversion, that's unacceptable. manti played his arse off and carlo is getting there. the dline is weak & our corners aren't making key tackles on a consistent basis (although blanton played his butt off today).

imo, the offense is much better than the defense.

Wish I could agree with you but I can't...

BC & Pitt: Split
WMU: Win
Navy & Tulsa: Split
Utah: Loss
Army: Win
USC: Loss

That leaves us at 5-7. I see no way we get to 7 wins this season. I'm not happy about it, but I'd rather build a solid foundation than try to win games right now and ignore the future of this program. I think we need to have patience and accept the growing pains.

yeah, we got our butts kicked, and it looked ugly at times.

but let's not underestimate this Stanford team, who could very well be a BCS frontrunner.

Stanford destroyed UCLA 35-0, and if today's 34-12 spanking of Texas by UCLA an indication, all things being equal of course

so i'm still hopeful we can turn this into a (barely) winning season, as Pitt and BC look awful, as in much worse than us, this week against similarly string opposition

win BC, win Pitt, win WM, win Tulsa OR Navy, win Army, loss Utah, win USC that will shine the light on 2011

i agree, our O looked out of synch. and maybe our D did keep us in the game today, but overall....our offense is much better than our D, imo.

Come on, guys. 4-8 predictions are going too far.

We WILL win 6. WMU, Tulsa, Army and 2 of USC, Utah, Pitt, BC and Navy.

We have advantages in every game:

- BC: Doesn't look fantastic. I think we can win.

- Pitt: One-dimensional offense. I really can't stress that enough. Their defense is pretty weak and they don't have Greg Romeus.

- Navy: We won't be blitzing against Navy, which gives us the advantage. They are outsized on both sides of the ball and we will be able to move the ball.

- Utah: I dunno. Probably a loss.

- USC: Terrible defense. If keep Crist protected, we can outscore them.

Every team has advantages in every game. That's sports for you.

We look just as bad if not worse.

- Pitt: One-dimensional offense. I really can't stress that enough. Their defense is pretty weak and they don't have Greg Romeus.

Hell, at least they have a dimension. They will run all over us.

- Navy: We won't be blitzing against Navy, which gives us the advantage. They are outsized on both sides of the ball and we will be able to move the ball.

Navy is a better football team than Notre Dame. Our defense cannot stop them. Our defensive line can get in the backfield and the safeties are basically useless.

- USC: Terrible defense. If keep Crist protected, we can outscore them.

We made it painfully obvious that we can't keep Crist protected, and our offense is anemic. All of these teams are leaps and bounds better than us. We blow.

Your nuts. Stanford is the truth and they laid it on us. BC sucks, Pitt Sucks. That leaves Utah and USC who are both beatable. Have you seen Navy play this year? They aint what they used to be.

I find it funny how the posters who were calling for 12-0 like stuff and BCS games at the start of the year, all while calling out posters like myself who wouldn't buy in, now make up the majority of those calling for ND to lose to just about every single team we play... My avatar pic is less of a pussy.

perspective everyone... I have the posts to prove what follows...

I EXPECTED ND to be at best 2-2 right now... I expected them to be 3-3 at the half way point... and I expected them to crush some skulls from that point on...

I do not feel any differently... I would not be suprised if we win out... Stanford is the best team we will see all year... deal.

UCLA 0- Stanford 35

Today:
UCLA 34- Texas 12

We probably just played our toughest opponent this year and this, right after a very tough loss. Some guys kept it up all game, others folded. BK knows who's who, and will make winners out of the worthy

Guys its not BK, its what he has to work with. Underdeveloped, new, and hesitant players. The Oline is new players in a new scheme...the just spells trouble.

I'm calling shenanigans on this statement. BK may be the guy that gets us over the hump, but to say that its not him at this point is preposterous. BK has gotten outcoached CLEARLY in the last 3 games. Ok, so Dayne fricken sucked major a** today, but the play-calling was absolutely pathetic. When you go incomplete on first down, then try a stupid a** run up the middle into a offensive line that was getting their A**ES kicked, you are virtually guaranteeing a third and long situation, with a QB who clearly lacks the confidence to throw ANYHOW other than a damn 5 yd curl route. The 3 points given up right before half is 500% ALL ON THE COACHING STAFF!!! If you aren't confident enough with Dayne to try and run a 2min offense, then that’s fine, but why do you Run on first ( for virtually no gain), then try a PASS on second just to stop the clock.....

Listen, we don't have any choice but to hope that BK will get us back on track, and I do agree that he "SHOULD" do much better given more time than what Weis did, but he has CLEARLY made some HORRIBLE decisions has the ones calling all the shots as the Head Coach!! He should and IMO rightfully DESERVES to take blame for a **** poor game plan and execution for the past 3 weeks!!

I'll cosign this thought....

So many of you have made Charlie out to be the fall guy here...what has BK done with the same talent? Not a whole lot...

Let's keep things in perspective here. It takes time to implement a philosophy...give it time...and get off of Charlie's ***. He didn't exactly leave the cupboard empty...

I dont always agree on his calls, but i like the way he is running this program, he gets some of his personnel in there, he gets adjusted to our annual oppenents (UM, MSU, STAN, SC, ect) i see us doing well. however the same can be said for Weis, when he got his recruits in they could not work with his system, perhaps it will be the other way with these recruits? only time will tell, we can make some jugements now, but i wont make a real ruling until after the 2012 season

I don't mind you disagreeing with me. Stanford is a good team and they beat us handily. You can say Pitt and BC suck, but we're not much better because our team is learning a new system. Expect mistakes. We will probably lose one of those games because we are learning. Maybe we do beat Navy, but Tulsa is capable of stealing a win in a game that we think will be a cake walk. You say Utah and USC are beatable...but their players know their systems...we won't win both of those games; maybe we get one of them. Bottom line, 6-6 or maybe 7-5 is what I see as best case at this point. I thought that was worst case before the season started.

The fact is, even though we've been less than mediocre for the last 15 years, teams still get up for our game. They enjoy beating us because of our rich history and tradition. I'm not trying to be negative. I think a lot of us just get our hopes up too soon, but I think Kelly will get us there...just not this year. I hope I'm wrong and we can get to 8 wins. But don't call me nuts for being realistic.
