Ok, I just crunched the numbers and they look like this:
Notre Dame w/o Crist
172 Total Yards
2 Turnovers
0 Points
Michigan w/o Crist
265 Total Yards
0 Turnovers
21 Points
Notre Dame w/ Crist
379 Total Yards
1 Turnovers
24 Points
Michigan w/ Crist
214 Total Yards
0 Turnovers
7 Points
It's not hard to see 1st string vs. 1st string which team is better. There's no debating it. When Crist was in Notre Dame has the obvious upperhand. Had he been in the game the entire time and proportionately calculating was applicable (which it in some ways is) the final would have looked something like this:
Notre Dame
673 Total Yards
2 Turnovers
43 Points
Michigan
380 Total Yards
0 Turnovers
12 Points
I know it's not exactly what would have happened, but it's interesting to note how dominant we were while our first string was intact. It wouldn't have been much of a contest had our defense played the way they did while having Crist the whole time.
And who does Nate Montana think he is audibling? You're the third freaking string! And you're not Joe Montana! Audible right into an interception. That's going to be his career highlight. Because Lord knows it would be horribly embarrassing showings anyone that absolutely pathetic pass to Theo Riddick at the end of the first half. Should have been a touchdown. Jamarcus Russell could have thrown that one for a touchdown. If Crist ever goes down we are truly screwed beyond belief.
Had to get that one out. Our backups about made me sick. My high school has better looking QBs and I graduated with 140 kids.
