21 point spread seems a bit high

UTEP won this one last year 58-41, but they are without the nation's 4th leading rusher from last year.

Don't know too much about UTEP, besides no defense, but I hear losing their top RB is just devastating to their offense. They will be lucky to stay within 30.

On the flag

On the flag

"he didn't get his head around" ???

The defender turned his head twice, first to his left and then 180 to the right.

And receiver jumped back into him. I guess that is one of those automatic calls, but I would have gone with offensive interference. But of course I'm rooting for the MIners...

Yikes this one could get ugly, but this game seems typical of Conf. USA and WAC games. Just track meets where a basketball or football game might break out. UTEP fumble followed by a Houston fumble. Never a dull moment.

You never know what you are going to get week to week or quarter to quarter from UTEP. Last year they lose 64-7 to UT Austin, then beat 12th ranked Houston 58-41. They ended the season with a 52-21 win against Marshall.

BGIF you say you lived in El Paso. Did you ever make it out to a Sun Bowl or UTEP game? I saw UTEP play (of all teams...) Boise St. quite a few years back. I was already impressed with Boise St. Boise St. is no overnight sensation.

I'm a bit of a gypsy, and when I was in El Paso, even seemingly insignificant local high school matchups had to be moved to the Sun Bowl because of crowd expectations. I guess the local border economy prevents El Paso from hosting a pro team in any sport, but they are rabid football, basketball, music, boxing, wresting, etc.. fans.

By contrast, I was in a town just north of LA and had read about this incredible high school team. I decided to check out a game. Must have been 100 folks in the stands. I also watched a high school playoff game featuring Ryan Matthews, a SoCal high school stud QB/TB, Fresno St. stud, and now a Charger. Maybe some parents in the stands. Not even a band or cheerleaders. Must have been an off night.

It must be the barbecued brisket they served at the Houston training table pre-game.

SirDishhands -funny. I went from certain parts of Texas where brisket is the king side order of beef, to parts of Cali, where Tri-tip seems popular. I thunk, "What the hell is tri-tip?' I spoke to some friends from around the country during a cookout or two, and told them I was cooking some Tri-tip. Every single one of them asked "What the hell is Tri-tip?"

Defense seems to be a side order of Tri-tip in this game.

Goodness. Still 6 minutes left in the 3rd qtr.

DID ANYONE JUST SEE THAT UTEP INTECEPTION RETURN!!! TOO EXCITING! ESPN highlight stuff. I think Houston QB Keenum (heisman hopeful) may have gotten knocked out of the game for a few plays.
