it's one game i look forward to watching every season....i'd hate to see it end.

Personally I look forward to every game. USC and Navy are the only two teams we must play every year. If Michigan is dropping down to 1-AA like they should with Dick Rod then we don't have to play them. Michigan will just ruin our schedule by 2012 when they are as good as IU football.

Bring on BYU. Mormons v. Catholics.

As evidenced by the fact ticket prices are through the roof. I don't know how you can think of getting rid of this game, unless Michigan is a lot more worried about the future of their program and its' competitiveness level in the next 5 years then they're letting on.
Man all kind of things come to mind here. Sounds like a power play to maybe join their poker game (conference) or maybe they dont like the action now that Kelly is aboard. Maybe after the plane ride back from meeting with the NCAA he decided this could get ugly with Notre Dame becoming Notre Dame again and me sitting here next to this guy. After last year and the hose job by the officials I frankly would not miss 'em. I know that will provoke a lot of bad reaction to this statment but Notre Dame will survive if they decide not to play. Mich is a storied program but I would submitt that they need us more they we need them. Let it be there decision-let them be the ones who have to handle the media's questions on why they choose to drop Notre Dame. 2 games with a conference is enough. I believe there are Big 12/ACC/SEC schools that would fill the date. Mich is not our biggest game- southern cal is.

How is it that Big 10 teams are concerned about losing money at the gate, if the each make $22+ million a year for being in the Big Ten? If they expand it only seems that their revenue will increase. I don't honestly think the gate money for one game is the issue.

People are talking about this like it is the Navy or USC series. "It'll never happen!" Really? ND and Michigan didn't play each other in 2000 or 2001. They didn't play each other in '83 or '84. They didn't play each other between '43 and '78. I'd hate to see any year without Michigan on the schedule, but it's certainly a possibility.

You forgot from 1909 until 42 as well. But the series died because of reasons outside of football. Its back and it should stay back.

yeah we have had a year in year out contract for a very short time haven't we???... It's not like this is an every year for generations thing...

I couldn't care less... the Michigan game is easily the most stressful for me personally year in and year out when they do play... SC is the most depressing... but we actually have had real chances to win this game each year...

always the most stressful...

can we replace them with Fordham??

I don't underestimate the level of Big Integer recalcitrance because the Irish won't join their little club. They are under the delusion that ND won't survive unless they allow them to play against their conference members.

When the time comes when there are only 3 out of conference games available each season, you can bet your bottom dollar that MAC & Div I-AA schools will get first dibs to fill those spots.

I completely agree with this. I would not mind dropping them... or really most Big Ten teams. The Big Ten is so delusional about their importance to our independence. I say replace Michigan with BYU and call it a day.

Not acceptable.
1. I'm pretty sure that the Alumni of both schools would pillage, then burn Ann Arbor and South Bend before the series was stopped.
2. This is ND Tradition. Tradition. It's not messed with. Look at the response when the athletes where put on a specialized meal plan.
3. I had the AMAZING oppurtunity to hear Digger Phelps give a speech last week about Notre Dame. He talked about how it didn't matter which team it was, when they played ND, it was the Super Bowl. It didn't matter if it was fencing, football, or basketball. Michigan v. Ohio State, it didn't compare.
