Ara Parseghian stopped by to watch the practice.

Also, of note, the linebackers are doing a drill and Manti Te'o is asked to stand aside and judge who was best in that particular drill...a sign of his leadership role defensively.

Ian Williams is not in full pads. He is wearing shorts. Injured?

Kerry Neal was running with the first team today ahead of B. Smith. Filer was taking reps behind Flemming at the Cat position.

If I got my cats and dogs mixed up, I apologize

I've never been the biggest fan of Neal and would really like to see Filer playing after jumping out of a pool... I mean... his great spring game performance... but I totally trust Kelly & Co. at this point.

My take on the Defence is that they are going to be shuttling in LBs thru out the game...Filer, Fox, Fleming, Smith, Teo, Mac, Calabrese, Paskorz, Posluszny, Shembo....our LBs will be one of our strong Positions!

No Shaq on either first or second team? Expect a transfer if this keeps up...

Im not to worried. We are going to shuffle through so many players on both sides of the ball a 3rd stringer per say is going to feel like they are on the heels of the first team. If they cant keep heads on tight and work to improve PT or position as far as who they line up with then bounce!

You should pay closer attention before you make such a blanket statement. Just a few days ago, BK said that Shaq was in a battle for a starting spot. He'll see time this fall, as this is a fast-break offense that uses plenty of WRs. If he's good enough (he's only a soph), he'll earn more time. I think he's good enough myself.

My two cents on Shaq....there is something special about this kid...can't put my finger on it...when he choose ND...that was my favorite commit from that class...maybe it is because USC wanted him so bad or his shy/confidant ora about him...or both. My prediction is that he will tear it up this year... while everyone is looking at Floyd and Rudy- Shaq will be going vertical! Damn...I'm so fired up for our Irish THIS year!

No... I actually read that entire article... and the post here about it... and I might even have responded in the thread but I don't remember. My "blanket statement" is based on the fact that he was considering a transfer before this season because of PT and, if the depth chart sticks (e.g. when I said "if this keeps up"), he will surely not be getting the PT he desires. "Seeing time" and playing more than 3-5 snaps a game are completely different things. He will definitely see time, but he might not play enough to make him happy if he is 3rd string.

So yes, I know he is battling for a starting spot with Duval and TJ. Brady Quinn also started training camp "battling" with Orton for the starting job and what do you think the chances are he gets significant PT this year? Just saying, I do pay attention and I think there is value to what I said: if he stays as a 3rd stringer, there is a very good chance he transfers. But obviously the depth chart is very much a work in progress and I recognize that.

Is that how you pronounce Coach Parseghian's name?

Ooooooohhhh dear, I've been saying it wrong for a long long time!

That's called "The Tom Hammond Effect" known medically as "Tom Hammond Syndrome".

You probably can't correlate jersey numbers with a game program either.

The CDC has declared THS pandemic among millions of ND fans across the nation. There is no immediate relief in sight. The Notre Dame Radio Network is one of the only two current remedies. The other is mute.

Isn't it funny how two people can take things very differently from the brief snippets of video we get from the practices?

I didn't take it as a sign of Manti's leadership necessarily. I interpreted it to be a sign he was being reprimanded for not using his hands well enough for the coach's liking. Manti wasn't using his hands correctly so the coach put him up there to show him how much differently it felt when guys do use their hands properly. I watched it again and that was still how I understood it.

I could be totally wrong, but I found it interesting how you and I could take the same video in completely opposite ways. That is what happens, I guess, when we only get to see 4 minutes of video every few practices or so.

I think he put them there for positive reasons.

You can hear Diaco in the video telling Te'o to see who pushes the farthest...meaning to me that he's the leader of the linebackers and is the judge or he's the strongest anyway.

Awesome. It's funny because it's true. Why oh why are we subjected to the ineptitude of Hammond-eggs on a weekly basis? Doesn't he have a horse race or ice skating event to do instead? Is NBC that cheap or clueless to keep him in the booth?

I usually use the mute solution because when I listen to the radio, there is normally a couple second lag between video & audio which drives me nuts. I guess I'll have to play with streaming internet audio this season and try to sync the two.

I wasn't saying who was right or wrong - I just thought it was interesting to see people can take things very different ways.

Maybe I was having a flashback to when my college coach singled me out for how I was doing on a rebounding drill. I wasn't doing it right so I had to stand right under the basket and watch every other player on my team do the drill. That was my thought process.

I never think it is for a good reason if a player is told to "watch" a drill being done by all their teammates. At least whenever I have seen it in my experience, it is usually because the player wasn't doing something properly.

Comparing the Brady/Orton situation to Shaq's is comparing two completely different things. With Orton, the man in front of him never left the field. With Shaq, even if he is the back-up he will still see the field, a lot. It's the nature of the offense. It's not like CW's offense where it was ALWAYS Tate and Floyd, and Kamara or Parris would be the others to see the field. And then once in a while you'd see a Shaq or a Toma or a Goodman. In this offense, it's go go go all the time, with many 3 and 4 WR sets, and the backups have to be ready to go because they will see the field.

On the other thing, we agree. I wrote in that other thread that if Shaq doesn't play, he'll be the first one to have transfer thoughts. However, after Kelly said he was battling for a starting role, that took away my fears, even if he is a backup to Kamara. He's in Kelly's thoughts and plans, which is huge...
