A number 9 rating is pretty good. This is especially true since we spent one on a [apparently devastatingly good] kicker for whom you get almost no points credit. The recruits that we are "chasing" right now are all in the four star range. When [not if] some of them commit, our rating will rise again. Staff Kelly deserve another standing ovation. As Mountain William says: "If you bake the bread, then you'll gather the gravy." We gunna be Beast, and we gunna go Feast. [Aaron Lynch, Mountain William's protege philososopher].

To KPENN: yes, brother, we're all right there with your sentiment. Since this thread was about recruiting, my comments centered there. Kelly can't win games this year with "bread he's baking for the future", obviously, so he'll have to prove how good he is while working with some other guy's bread. I have a lot of confidence that he's THAT kind of good coach too, but we shall have to wait for the games. My risk-free prediction is that once he gets to gravy-gathering with his own bread in future years, "we still gunna feast". "There ain't nuthin' wrong with optimism as long as you're not bettin' your own money" [Mountain William].

@OMM i like the bread analogy, if i may add, we may have to settle for a snack before the main course if you know what i mean, and the family is starving for anything right now.

To GreatDayne: as I've said elsewhere on the site, I'll take 8-4 this first year, and if we're competitive in each game, I'll be happy and still think Kelly is great. So I'm right with you on that. A naive look at our opponents shows me seven we should win, and five that can go either way. If we blow one we shouldn't, and beat two we're underdog in, that's 8-4. What uplifts me RECRUITING-WISE though is that Staff Kelly is out-recruiting everyone of our opponents except Stanford, who only lead us because they have several more commitments now. But when our next few Four-Stars come in we'll pass them too. THAT is the future Feast I'm looking forward to.

So the feast is set for Jan 8 2012?

I still dont think we are done in this class. I think we'll make a strong push at some elite players and finish in the top 10. It may take awhile for some of these bigger recruits (Lyons, Richardson, and Huggins) but when they see the product on the field... we'll be ok.
We were talking before about maybe stealing Ray Drew and bringing Tuitt with him. I think that wasnt very reasonable but I do think we have that opp with other players. We are in pretty good standing with Shuler who is good friends with Huggins. If we can pull Shuler then I think we have a real good chance with Huggins. But with Daniels as almost a sure thing, that doesnt leave us a lot of room left on defense.

Sorry I don't think we get Huggins. We have like 6 slots left with no wideouts commited on top of a few kids taking OV to ND-Michigan game.

Yes, I was. I was just re-stating the obvious that the idea of the article was about ND recruiting rankings and it could be found in the article link. :) Not busting your chops, Steve-o.

lol The only reason i said that was because the original title didn't have the word 'recruiting' in it and wasn't in the recruiting section. I changed the thread title and moved it.

Easy on the excitement talk. The season is nearly 3 weeks away and I can't start getting caught up this early with that much time still to go....I'll go insane waiting. The week before the start of the season is the worse.

Im not saying that Huggins is a lock or that we even hold a spot for him. Im simply saying in doesnt hurt to have Shuler on our side if that all comes into play.
As far as wide-outs go, Im not hitting the panic button on that position yet because I think we are locked in as far as Daniels goes as long as his academics are in order. We have a real shot with Shuler who has great speed, which is something we have certainly been lacking. Then we are on the outside looking in with Williams and Flowers.
I didnt think we had as many as 6 slots left but if we do then I think our top 4 legit shots are:
Daniels
Shuler
Richardson
French
And maybe that leaves room for the Atkinson boys, Huggins, Niklas, or Ishaq. I think either way, we are looking at some serious talent still out there with our name in the mix.
