what would you think is the main focus going into fall camp?

i personally would say to get the Defensive front seven more familiar with the 3-4 alignment.

or..

sure up the starters for the O-line so they can all gel before the season opener.

i can't think of many individual battles, besides back-up QB as of right now anyways.

I would say cohesion, as a staff and team actually playing football.

Offense and defense have to gel now. This is where everyone has to get on the same page. If everyone does their job, then a winning season will be a given...

Go Irish!

I'm with Killz..... it's about trust and cohesion. Everyone has to DO their job, and the rest have to trust it's getting done. That's what will get us moving in the right direction.

jmo.... your mileage may vary.

I agree with everything you said, plus conditioning.

I really hope conditioning is already in place, minus the kind of shape you have to get into with equipment, like the beautiful forehead abrasion from your football helmet that has to turn into a callous...

I hope conditioning will not be a factor anymore.

Defense (as a whole)

I think the biggest key for Kelly will be getting Crist's timing down in this offense

I hope conditioning is in place also. There were times in the Weis era, where it looked like our team wasn't in good shape at the end of games. Good thing Kelly runs fast paced practices.

Attitude attitude attitude; last year in Ann arbor we had um dead to rights. After AAs run on first down coach shouldve said "look boys, we are in the big house. Let's run it down their throats and go home." this year we run down hill real mean

yeah i agree i hope conditioning isn't a problem.

i have to agree with Crist's timing also, especially in such a quick strike offense

Don't forget the chin pimples. I call them chinples.

DISCIPLINE. Coaches have to establish who the boss is and immediately rid the team of any semblance of cancer that is prima donna hood.

Ahh yes. Chinstrap funk zits. Nice!

Oh and the advil/tylenol for the headaches from cracking skulls.

Dad-gum I'm jacked!

Funny how the girls don't mind the forehead abrasions and chin pimples, huh?

Individualism kills good football teams.

Defense is key. I just have the feeling the offense will put up some points but the defense is really going to have to step up if ND plans on making a big time bowl this year.

Conditioning as well. ND fell flat in the 4th quarter a lot during Weis's tenure.

Safety position!!! I hope they are focused like a laser on developing two guys who can play safety and understand the exactly what a safety must do and also what a safety must NOT do!! Jesus Mahoney, If I have to watch Hayseed overrun the play, let TE's and WR's get behind him and then ride their jersey tails like a tin can on the back of a Newlywed's car.....I'll die. I will simply die of a burst aorta.

Offensively, I hope they focus on a core group of plays that everyone can run effectively in their sleep that can be disguised in multiple formations.

Defensively, focus on the basics: good footwork, proper positioning, taking proper pursuit angles & no more arm tackling.

Don't know which interview it was but it seemed like BK inferred that getting Crist experience was one of the main priorities. When I first heard him say it I thought it was a jab at Weis. I think it was on CFB Live today.

I have a feeling Slaughter will rarely be out of position and make a lot of plays this year

Remember People, Kelly in Company only had 15 practices in the spring to Install his Offense and Defense. The Defense will come quickly, but the Offense will still need to be installed again...not entirely.. but most of the spring was fundementals and basic installation of this offense. There is much work to be done on that side of the ball.

1-A. Defense. Everything defense. Fundamentals, footwork, coverage, tackling, pursuit angles, press, turning head to the ball (a major problem of Irish cornerbacks, particularly Terrail Lambert, in recent years), etc. The defense needs to be decent, especially if the offense finds itself struggling in the early games.

1-B. Getting rhythm offensively. Dayne Crist needs to be comfortable running the offense and must have good chemistry with his receivers and tight ends, particularly on those timing routes over the middle. Receivers need to be comfortable with their routes and going over the middle (I'm looking at you, Michael Floyd).

1-C. The running game. We've lacked a truly good running game since 2006, and a truly dominant running game for much longer. No running game = little success.

I agree -- the timing of the offense is by far the most crucial ingredient at this point. Kelly's offense relies on synchronicity not needed by the defense. The timing of the WR's, timing of the handoff, the reads, audibles, etc. all need to be in place to function. And as we all saw during the Ty Willingham era, Good Defense + Bad Offense = Losing.

Heck, there were times in the Weis era where it looked like our team wasn't in good shape at the start of games. The reign of Mendoza is over. Longo is the man!!! I am hoping and praying this team starts to look like they actually use that shiny, expensive weight room they have. No more fullbacks or kickers being the strongest on the team. Who cares? I want to see that mean and nasty football team we have been promised for so long.

The bookends. Our tackles need to be ready to take the heat.

Snapshot's right-on with the safeties as well.

Practice starts on Saturday I believe.

We're going to the Pitt game this year, anyone else?

i guess i'll just transform this thread to the fall camp thread because my next question would be..

who will be the surprise player coming out of camp?

my first would be Nwanko, then Stockton (because i haven't heard much since last year, even though he was only a freshmen) i expect him to get some good reps in through out the year and possibly Deion Walker

I'll be at the Stanford game on 25 September. I was at the Stanford game 2 seasons ago when some nut-job threw his brother's ashes on me, rather than the field... I had a "Big Lebowski" flashback there... at least I didn't catch the Folger's can in the noggin'.

Last season, I went 1-1 between the Washington & Connecticut games. I didn't get doused with anyone's remains during those weekends... so I had that going for me.

Main focus will be fundementals....blocking, tackling, executing to details, paying atttention to details...conditioning...

You look at people that suceed in business and in sports they pay attention to the details- that is the difference between a W or a L. Think about last year....mental errors....Armando in Michigan getting the flag for SHHHing the crowd, Shaq not running the correct route....Harrison personal foul call....Youngs bone head personal foul...shall i continue. You get my point.

Kelly is all about the details....
