If ND has a spectacular year (or next for that matter), does USC's not being in the coach's poll hurt us when it comes to strength of schedule with the BCS?

If USC is 10-0, why would it hurt our strength of schedule if we beat a 10-0 football team?

If USC is 8-2, 9-1, 10-0 when we play them...wouldn't hurt our schedule strength, I think.

because they are not ranked, they are not factored into our strength of schedule. therefore, it will hurt us

Who says they aren't?

The BSC Rankings are determined by the Harris Poll (1/3 of total), the Coaches Poll (1/3 of total), and the Computer Polls (1/3 of total).

I believe only the football coaches are forbidden from voting for a team on NCAA probation by the Football Coaches Association not the BCS . Nowhere does it say they can't take into consideration the toughness of a team on probation or the margin of victory. (Do you really think Steve Spurrier or Nick Saban isn't going to vote for an SEC team that beat an undefeated Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Auburn or Tennessee simply because they were on NCAA probation at the time?)

I believe the computer polls consider all the teams in their calculations and the computer programs are the only place where Strength of Schedule is calculated.

I would say this is Notre Dame... if we have the minimum wins needed for the BCS we'll most likely be in.

I would also say this may be a mute point since I don't see us getting those wins this year.

It hits us next year as well.
Although I'm a very optimistic fan and think we should got to a BCS every year (even this one), I do think that we will definitely be in contention next year.

SOS has nothing to do with rankings...SOS is determined by WINS and LOSSES...

and i am pretty sure the NCAA didnt ban USC from WINNING or LOSING games....
