I think we take... (wish list) if we try for 18 in this class. I'm sure we could go 20 with the loss of James and Boyd

QB - Starling
RB - 1 of Poteat, Hayes, Atkinson, Huggins
WR - 2 of Daniels, Shuler, Flowers

DE - Lynch & Wujciak
OLB - French
CB - 1 or 2 of Dominique Noble, Josh Atkinson, Jalen Brown, Blake Countess
Safety - 1 or 2 of Lyons, Hardy, Johnson

Carrico & Springmann are flexible. Should be interesting to see who really shows genuine ND interest

We are in the lead for Ben Councell. Couldn't find his thread, so I post here.

No

6/8/10 from Rivals:

The four-star offensive tackle from Hastings, Neb., took an unofficial visit a couple weeks ago and added an official scholarship offer last Friday, formalizing a recruitment that has dated back a couple months.

Building some familiarity with the Irish has put them squarely in the mix for Sterup moving forward.

"They're probably in my top three," Sterup said. "It's in between Nebraska, Iowa and Notre Dame right now."

Combined with the new offer, Sterup's late-May visit helped vault Notre Dame into the lead pack. He had previously visited Nebraska and Iowa. The Hawkeyes were his first offer after visiting for junior day and Nebraska came in just before Notre Dame.

My wish list at this point...preference

QB - 1 of Jacoby Brissett or Justin Worley
RB - 1 of Hayes, Poteat, Huggins
WR - 2 of Flowers, Williams, Farmer, Shuler, Atkinson, Daniels
OT - 1 of Sterup, Kouandjio, Hobbi, Richardson
DE - 2 of Wujciak, Chickillo, Williams, Newberry, Scarlett, Lynch, Drew
OLB - 2 of DePriest, Hankins, Councell, French
S - 2 of Johnson, Lyons, Hardy
CB - 1 of Phelps, Brown, Atkinson

22 total is probably too much. If we are at 82 right now like I think we are, someone correct me if I am wrong, and we have 20 Seniors (with Floyd and Rudolph leaving). That leaves us at 60 before 5th years are awarded. Depending on how the season goes - Gray, H. Smith, and 2 of Nwankwo, Dever, Nuss, or Romine (does he have the option?) should get one. That math leaves the class maxing at 21.

I think we already have a thread called "who is next to commit?" or something like that.

I will GLADLY take him. Not sure about him committing this weekend. But, there is a lot of talent at DE this year. Let's load up while we can to solidify this DL. He's got speed and a nose for the ball. Could bulk up, but every 17 year old can. PLEASE make the ND community feel a little better about itself, Connor - Daniels & Starling were a kick in the groin

I would be happy to get Connor, too. Has anyone read anything saying there is a possibility he will commit though? That doesn't mean he won't, but I'm not overly confident on getting an immediate commitment if the kid hasn't even mentioned it as a possibility.

No. He hasn't commented. It was only a fearless prediction a collleague and I shared. Someone should e-mail this kid a Zorich highlight video. He'd commit at his visit if they did.

How about those pancakes this kid grilled up on that vid, too? He'd create a great look on a goal line set. In fact, whose gonna replace Bobby at the FB position? Will we ever use a goal line set? I know we're going spread.

My thoughts in bold:

Updated list of Offers with Mutual interest, visits, etc

ATH Christian French (starting to get noticed more, and I think he'll blow up nationally. Very interested in ND, but as schools get to know him I wouldn't be surprised to see him land elsewhere)
ATH George Atkinson III
ATH Miles Shuler
DB Lyndell Johnson (tough get out of TX. interested in ND but him cancelling his visit didn't help. But he did it b/c of summer school, which he needs to qualify for ND)
DB Josh Atkinson
DB Eilar Hardy (very good chance to land him)
DB Wayne Lyons (says ND is recruiting him the hardest)
DE Ben Councell (now has ND tied w/ GT...only problem is distance. If he gets over that he's all ND. Big 'if' though)
DE Connor Wujciak
DE Aaron Lynch (this one will hurt if we lose him, but that's a trend w/ ND and defensive ends)
DE Brennan Scarlett
OL Brey Cook
OL Cyrus Hobbi (might not be recruiting anymore b/c of lack of need)
OL Cyrus Kouandjio (Lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnng shot)
QB Jacoby Brissett
QB Justin Worley
RB Justice Hayes
RB Jameel Poteat
RB Savon Huggins
TE Richard Rodgers
TE Troy Niklas (very interested)
TE Jay Rome
WR Hakeem Flowers
WR Ja'Juan Story (may visit soon)
WR Davaris Daniels (You all know.)
WR Kasen Williams
WR George Farmer (USC L-O-C-K of all locks. I've read the SC premium stuff on him, and I've talked to Serra basketball coaches, and he's all SC. He just wants to announce at an all-star game.)

Eliar Hardy is my bet for next to commit... But hopefull Justin Worely soon too.

I agree. We are DESPERATE for a DB! and could use a Qb to even out the classes (get it to 1 per year). However, I am just as much of a recruiting nut as the next guy looking at high school profiles 11:30 at night when I have to work at 8, but I have thought of the argument that it may be a problem signing a full class before the season starts.

We should assume Kelly is still playing catch up for relationship on most of these kids. Given he has not coached a game, who is to say we could not come out of the gate 5-0 and have the whole nation talking about us? Or we may fall on our face...

My point is I am blood thirsty for a recruit or two to verbal as well (especially at DE and DB). I just hope we get who we really want and not fill more than 15 or 16 guys before the season. Whether we are really in it or not we need to hold a spot for Richardson, Lynch, Rome, Newberry, DePriest, and Lyons at least. I have faith if we play like we should, to our potential, and surprise some people we could get what we really want. Thoughts?

I think you're on the right lines, but I would disagree with you somewhat. With this being Kelly's first class, you don't hold too many spots. This way you are able to get a full class, and if kids don't sign up right away, then next year's kids will know that they have to commit earlier. You save a couple spots (I agree with Richardson, Lynch, and Lyons, but we are already out of it for DePriest and maybe Rome), but not that many. Kelly has shown that he wants guys who want Notre Dame. If you read Worley's dad's quote, it says that they want Justin to know by July-ish so that they can figure out their quarterback situation. This is, in some way, a different approach than Charlie took. But I believe Kelly is really looking for tough, dedicated football gentlmen - I think this approach will get him what he want. Although we are not in the middle of a recruiting hotbed like Mack Brown is - it is still a similar strategy that he uses on his Junior Days.
