I got to watch it all but the last 10 minutes but I found it on espn radio in my car. I almost crashed when we scored. But I didn't even care because I was so excited.

In the year of our lord, 2006, Ghana beat USA 2-1. Ghana then advanced to the knockout round while the US was sent packing. I don't think we're afraid of them but they are absolutely confident they can beat us twice.
I've actually heard it said on ESPN we may certainly be the underdog. Ghana is the only team from Africa's continent to make the knockout round and an invite has been sent to all African countries to send a representative or something along those lines to the game.
The atmoshpere should be electric. Ghana is a great and able squad.
Retribution, anyone?

Great point. That throw was absolutely amazing and right on point. Also great, I thought, was the British broadcaster who called a great goal...nailed every moment of the goal right on time, even Dempsey being turned away yet again, and really caught the gravity of the moment. I was impressed.
Us too! (although I was screaming a wee bit LOUDER). I was and still am so pumped. What a moment. We watched it at home before we went to work. I'm a little jealous of my brother in Miami, who watched the game at a bar where he said the place went apeshit when Landon scored.
Also really happy for Landon, a SoCal boy who has been through a lot in his career, who has finally been putting it all together, playing really well in England as well as for the Galaxy, and now 2 HUGE goals for his country, which he clearly loves so much. Phenomenal.
One more thing...the USA scored 9 goals in qualifying matches after the 85th minute...more than double the amount of ANY other nation on the world. That shows the American fighting spirit more than anything baby...

Alright, so I think we beat Ghana advance to the quarterfinals and beat Uruguay. We then face either the Neatherlands or Brazil in the semifinals. I'm leaning towards the dutch in the semifinals.
But regardless of win or lose in the semifinals, what a run.
How about those Azzuri? Slovakia is powning... But Italy just scored.
Update: Ouch, offside revoked goal for tie. Italy is making a go.
Update: Wow, what an amazing last 8 minutes. Italy finally woke-up and 3 Slovakian goals.
Paraguay and Slovakia advance. Italy in last place.
What a shocker: Italy and France ousted in group play, with both finishing last in their brackets.

I moved all the talk about race (not pertaining to soccer) to a new thread entitled "Race Relations".
jason...HUUUUUGE game for Spain tomorrow. I'm half Spanish, and (obviously) we take this shit seriously...if we don't advance I will be beyond crushed. Chile will be playing for the tie, and like pretty much every team that plays Spain, they will be putting at least 10 men behind the ball I'm sure. This will be devastating should we not advance...the choke label will be a permanent fixture.
And to think, so far it's been so great for me...USA advances, the 2 teams I hate the most don't advance (Italy and esp, France), the games this past round were uber-entertaining, the play has really picked up, Brazil and Argentina are playing beautiful soccer, Messi has put a stranglehold on the 'best plat player in the world argument, without even scoring a goal...and yet it will all come crashing down if Spain lays an egg tomorrow, which, given our history, is quite possible.
Can't wait for tomorrow...got the day off, got Brazil-Portugal at 7 am, and Spain-Chile for all the marbles at 11:30...
