Per Rivals:

http://tamu.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1093875

The Aggies will be the newest member of the Southeastern Conference.

Aggieyell.com has confirmed through multiple sources that Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott met with members of the A&M Board of Regents in College Station Sunday morning. At that meeting, the Scott was informed that the board would be declining the conference's offer to join. Scott was the second conference head to visit College Station this weekend, with the SEC's Mike Slive being the first.

Aggieyell.com has been told by more than once source that the driving forces behind the move to the SEC are Board Chairman Morris Foster and A&M Chancellor Mike McKinney. In part due to a push by former A&M and Alabama head coach--and current Regent--Gene Stallings, there is a 6-3 board majority in favor of making the move to the SEC.

i'm not too aware of which teams need to go where in order for ND to be "forced" into a conference, but does this have any major effect on ND?

i personally hope not

Incredible. Its like a train wreck that you can see coming from miles away and you are now watching it in slow motion.

Absolutely agree... Great analogy. It's certain that all hell is going to break loose and college football as we know it is no longer. ND's hand is about to be forced...get used to it folks.

If they add A&M, Texas, OU, and another team I'm going to be sick. Its bad enough hearing how great they are now.

well until someone decides to take away their throne, theyre the best conference in the country hands down.

not to start this debate up, but the SEC dominance is the creation of alot of media coverage and bias, lets say their is 4 top 10 teams and they all play eachother they will never drop in the rankings if they play eachother because it looks as if they are just that good, but considering they play no tough OOC games it is hard to determine who really is that dominant.

i'm not a hater either because i know alabama was probably the best team in the country last year, even though it would have been a better game if mccoy would not have been knocked out of the game.

once again i'm not a hater, just an objective viewer

What conference is better?

its hard to say because there OOC scedule consist of 48 teams total and only 6 i think were ranked in the top 25 and they were 3-3 and out of the bowls they played in i think the only big time team they played was the nation championship game between texas and alabama.

and total i think their record was .500 in bowls and just for the record no one can classify cincinnati as a legitimate team against florida. as much as i do like BK

How about their OOC in national championship games. You know, the game the conference has won 4 years in a row. It's not even debatable.

THANK YOU!!! Finally someone with some common sense.
AN OOC schedule has absolutely nothing to do with how good a team is.
They play those games basically so they can get extra practice in before they hit the strength of their schedule most of the time.
But to say the SEC isnt the best is just dumb.

i'm not saying they don't have some of the most dominant teams, but overall no one can make a 100 percent argument that they are the best conference based off of a national championship game.

when saying that they are the "best conference" that means their whole schedule comes into play not just one game.

The BCS bowls are OOC games that they dominate. Also Bama always plays a good OOC game, Florida plays Florida State, etc.

I've heard them or GT. Some seem to think UNC and duke are a possibility but I don't see either one of them going to the sec. Cause to get UNC your gonna have to bring in duke and Vice versa.

This thing isn't over yet. The Pac-16 might not happen this year if Texas gets the tv deal they want. Lawrence Journal World is guessing that the Big XII survives.

Ha ha, for every report you quote, I can quote one saying the exact opposite. Crazy isn't? What can anyone truly believe? Here's Joe Schad's tweet about a report from Chip Brown, who has been all over this stuff:

@chipbrownob is reporting that Texas has decided to save the Big 12. Certainly possible, though the Big 12 didn't know this earlier today

And then Schad is reporting now that 4 sources are telling him still that 4 Big 12 schools are set to leave for the Pac 10. Crazy.

At least this month isn't boring like normal. I got the Lakers stinking up the finals (but coming back home baby), we have the World Cup for us soccer fans, we have the USC sanctions (the gift that keeps on giving), and we have all this crazy realignment talks. Fun for all...

Honestly I cant see any of this forcing Notre Dame's hand in any way. Only if Jack feels that somewhre down the line it hurts a final game berth if they are 1 loss or undefeated. It is not about the $$$$$ and all this posturing by these schools will not affect the Irish if they just win football games. I think Kelly wins games the next 5 yrs and keeps Notre Dame independent. These other schools are big but they are not Notre Dame. Networks will get in line to have Notre Dame's games if they start winning, if not then they will join some conference and the nation will lose a college football treasure and Notre Dame will become just another college football program.

Believe it or not but ND Football is a money loser for NBC.

I have a pretty good wing shot. Gimme a 12 gauge, and I could hit a few piggies. Come on phork, lost all hope for a winning program?

Train wreck? I am not too sure. I think that the minimalists will rule here. We know Texas is staying put so that and taking ND at its word keeps things down to a low roar.

Meaning:
The Big 12 will stay viable.
The Big East will remain viable.
The Pac 10 will search for one more team.
The SEC will look for one more team, (maybe.)

Here is what could happen:
Miami, FSU or Georgia Tech could move to the SEC, gutting the ACC.
Utah could be the final addition to the Pac 10 (or 12).
The ACC and Big East could roll together for an exceptionally strong conference, with a North and South division. This would show the other conferences how to maintain rivalries, keep transportation expenses down and build a viable regional media network.

20 Years of mediocrity has beaten most hope from my body. As far as being a Big10 Homer, I wouldn't say that. But in the coming storm, and don't kid yourself it will happen eventually, NDs best fit would be the Big10. The Big East, aside from basketball, is a joke. If the Superconference deal ever happens then I would side with the Big10. I am happy to remain independent, but when the crap hits the air handling unit I would have to pick the Big10.

Money, and nothing else, saved the Big12. People got together and said "Heh the Pac16 is a bad idea, 4 super conferences are a bad idea." A bad idea for the bottom line imo.
