"Multiple reports Wednesday indicated that the school was interested in a change of conference after weeks of reports that Big 12 schools were being targeted by the expansion-minded Pac-10 and Big Ten.

An executive from an unidentified Big 12 school told the Omaha World-Herald on Tuesday that he expects Nebraska to join the Big Ten as early as Friday."

i think that will be a huge change in the landscape of college football because it not like its Iowa St. or Baylor leaving, its Nebraska which has a pretty good tradition. and one a the bigger pieces to the Big 12.

but we shall see

I want ND to jump on the Big 10's offer right now, before its too late. Time's are changing, sometimes traditions have to change.

only nebraska is going to leave the big 12 that would give them 12 teams they could have a championship game so they will be happy unless nd joins and then i think they will add 2 1 more team for 14 but nd is going unless they get kicked out of bcs chances and pac 10 isnt expanding unless texas joins and i dont think they will get a bettter deal than the one they have with the big 12 also they like being the top dog and they might have to share that with usc

This would be a great move for Nebraska in the near future... they would go from having next to no shot of besting Texas/OU and which of the KU,Mizzou, Tech and A&M group that is having a good year to being a legit contender in the Big 10 overnight depending on who else joins up with them... you don't make this move based on that... but it's a nice bonus.

I think the new Big10 is going to consist of at least 14.
Nebraska will be the first domino, it looks pretty certain theyre joining now.
I think Missouri will be next.
And then Notre Dame makes it #14.
I think this would lead to a very nice group of schools,and am all for it.

I would like 14 better than 16. Like I said before, that is 6 games in your section of the conference. Probably 2 or 3 from the other half. ND would probably be paired up with UM, MSU, PU, PSU, OSU, and the last depends on whether or not they grab a big east team. That leaves 3 or 4 non conference games. That will include USC of course, Navy in my opinion, and then two others at opposite ends of the country for recruiting purposes. If the big ten pulls in might Texas somehow, and if ND makes it that far, that would be a huuuge conference championship game...

Texas won't join the Big ten due to demographic reasons. Not many teams from the Big ten are going to travel that far to play them. Texas is better suited for the Pac 10 or SEC, which, IMO it be pretty stupid for the SEC to picked up Texas because they'll just knock each other out of NC title contention every year...

the demographics for texas, in terms of distance and region, joining the Big 10 are almost exactly the same as joining the Pac 10....

Greed is good.... despite what some stupid Oliver Stone film says...

and that's what people said when the SWAC fell apart and when the ACC and such reformed... new traditions will step in within five years max and no one will know the difference......

The Pac-10 is going to be the Pac-16.

So the Big-10 is going to try and match that... And if ND isn't one of the 16 they are screwed badly.

Nebraska is the initial domino... College sports are going to be changed forever.

What happens if there is a Big-16 and Pac-16?

What if those super conferences only played 2 non-conference games?

It would appear to me that these "super conferences" would make it difficult to schedule a legitimately strong strength of schedule.

If ND joins the Big 10 they will lose tradition.
If ND doesn't join the Big 10 they'll lose their respectability.

Tradition is a dying breed folks. What happens if ND doesn't join the expansion express? The simple reality is that college football as we know it, is setting itself for a tourny style environment. So you are going to have 4 super conferences consisting of 16 teams each and ND will be frozen out of post season consideration.

I hear that the Big10 has cooled on Missouri. They do want ND as their prize haul, with Rutgers and possibly Maryland.

if we join the big ten ND can NEVER have a period like we have been in the last 20 years! no charlie's or willinghams or we will get ate alive! also i always thought that Posu was going to hire Pelini when the gay sweater vest retired...i doubt that will happen know!

I wonder if they would let us keep our NBC contract... I know about the big10 network and all but still.
