Wow! Just heard on the recap that Filer had 12 tackles. He played a solid game. Cierre Wood went over 100 yards on only 10 carries. Couple of guys that needed a big spring game that stepped up and played awesome.

I will NEVER be convinced (not even by Brian Kelly) that Armando Allen is a better running back than Jonas Gray. No way in hell.

Cierre Wood is the real deal, too.

And that's all I've got to say about that

Armando allen was not given the chance to show himself
Look at what he did last year he was a beast when he was healthy

This may have been listed already, but here are the people who can personally confirm were at the spring game:

2010:
Louis Nix, Bennett Jackson, Kendall Moore, Daniel Smith, Alex Welch, and Derek Roback.

2011:
Tony Springmann, Jarrett Grace, and Justin Garrett.

Btw... Louis Nix (needless to be said) is a big boy. Love the glasses he rocks too.

Daniel Smith is also an impressive looking kid as far as height and frame.

Ryno, I guess you weren't around in the fall. There was a huge discussion on here comparing Armando and Jonas.

A beast? I think you're the first person ever to refer to Armando as a beast. 700 yards rushing in 12 games with 3 touchdowns? I hope Jonas and Cierre get a lot more touches this year because both are bigger, stronger, can break tackles, and aren't much slower than AA.

Some quick evaluations I had from being there:

Dayne:
-Overall nice job
-Accuracy was inconsistent... Sometimes very, very good. Sometimes not as much.
-Did not throw many deep balls, mostly due to his knee I would guess.

Nate Montana:
-One of the pleasant surprises of the day.
-Good decision-making
-Has great height and frame for the position.
-Loved throwing to big Mike Ragone
-Looked so much more comfortable than in the past.
-Had a big smile on his face after the game was done.

Tommy Rees:
-Good job
-More poised than I would have guessed
-Looks short, not surprisingly
-Had some nice throws

RBs:
-Armando looked good, but the line he ran with didn't create many holes for him.
-Cierre looked very good. He showed good speed, good patience, and ability to hit the hole hard.
-Jonas was good. I think I am kinda biased because I am not a big Jonas fan, but I thought his success was due quite a bit to the competition he was playing against.
-Hughes did solid as well. He had one nice run for sure.

Receviers:
-Floyd looked good - he had a nice run on that first play!
-T.J. Jones was awesome - looked tired by the end because he played so much. He was having fun out there though
-Duval was quiet except for one or two nice grabs
-Shaq played very well
-Deion showed up to play
-Roby had one nice catch and run
-Theo caught a really nice TD pass from Nate
-Goody was kinda quiet

TEs:
-Kyle was Dayne's favorite target early - then left as expected
-Mike Ragone may have been the star of the game - I am sure that Kelly used the TE's so much in order to try to rope Koyack in
-Tyler Eifert did some nice things, however his blocking was not great
-Jake Golic was inconsistent

OL:
-I did not focus that much on watching the line. If anyone could add some input, I would greatly appreciate it!

DL:
-Ethan looked great at times, however he had one where he was lined up and whiffed big time.
-Emeka did a nice job, although sometimes his competition may not have been excellent.
-Brandon Newman looked terrific today. Batting down balls and being a disruptive force all over - good to see.

LBs:
-Manti made some great plays and some very poor plays. I love the kid, but he made some aggressive mistakes (which is at least better than passive). The long run in the beginning was almost solely due to him blowing a read. He made some nice tackles though and his speed is phenomenal. The pass break-up he had was terrific.
-Carlo also had a nice game.
-Paskorz had a couple of nice hits.
-Brian Smith did not overly impress me, maybe I wasn't watching close enough, but sometimes he was not very explosive. I'll chalk it up to switching positions for now.
-Steve Filer and Dan Fox were both active disrupters.
-Darius was on and off. His effort is terrific, however he seemed to be overmatched at times, especially when he had his hand on the ground.

DBs: This position was hard to tell because they didn't put many special coverages in, so they were significantly disadvantaged.

Darrin Walls: Did a really nice job I thought, was sure on his tackling as well.
Gary Gray: Had an interception. Good job in coverage as well.
Blanton: I watched him a couple times and he didn't overly impress me.
Harrison Smith and Jamoris were a bit hesitant I thought.
Danny McCarthy did some nice things.
All three freshmen DBs looked good to me today.

Again, this is just one unprofessional perspective. I tried to judge as much as I could, but I can only do my best. Thought overall we looked good - but it's really hard to tell when the defense was running such base stuff.

I probably forgot some standouts as well. Chime in if you disagree or remember someone I forgot!

I'll disagree with both you and Leppy. Allen was given plenty of chance to show himself last year. He was our number #1 back and was used a lot in both the run game and the pass game.

Leppy, I think Allen did a pretty good job last year...and he was MUCH improved. Yes, I'd like to see him stay on his feet more, but he was much improved, and was really hitting his stride before the injury. The reason Jonas didn't play more was simple...fumbles and poor pass protection. The talent that you love is undeniably there, but he puts the ball on the ground too much and he's bad in protection. That fumble against Michigan was an absolute killer, and his missed block in the Michigan State game cost Jimmy an injury free season. Those are backbreaking plays bro.

Now, he's only a soph, and hopefully he'll continue to grow us. He looked good today! BUt in Allen's defense, this is 2 different head coaches and 3 different RB coaches that have declared him the undeniable leader of the group. So there's something there. I've been his biggest critic, but he impressed me last year, and I think he's going to ball next near.

Hopefully both have stellar years!!!!

I watched the game on UND.com and fundamentally we look much improved. I think both QB's played fairly well but you can tell that Dayne is more confident in what to do with the football and when. I think Montana had about 4-6 plays where if he threw it on time he had easy completions for some pretty big plays but he just isn't as decisive as he needs to be yet.

Jonas is a Jr. Other that than, I agree with everything you said. If Allen, Gray, and Wood all look good, we wouldn't miss Riddick too much at RB anyway.

I was talking about right now, and you're talking about next year. So we're both wrong and we're both right LOL...

I am excited to see this offense again. The defense was supposed to be pretty basic from what others have said, so I will hold judgement on that until later.

Impressed by Cierre Wood and Nate Montana. Also like what I saw out of TJ Jones. What did Floyd do other than the run at the beginning? I didn't see him with any catches in the highlights or the small portion of the broadcast I saw. I would have thought he would be the main target for the QB on his team. I liked what I saw from the other receivers for the most part also.

Floyd had a 33 yard grab. He might have played a quarter and a half total, which is why his stats don't look fantastic.
