In response to being asked whether he is taking Brian Kelly's criticism personally:

"You can't. At this level, you can't let things hurt your feelings. You gotta have thick skin, you gotta be able to move forward and take the coaching, take the criticisms and understand that he's hard on you for a reason. He's hard on you because he wants you to be the best, he wants you to be great, and he wants to drive this thing as close to perfect as possible. I don't think that we're letting it effect us right now, and we just have to be able to take it in stride."

It's good to see Crist responding well to Kelly's criticism.

His feelers are hurt though. I can't question BK's tact, but some things are better left under the field house's roof.

Just my humble opinion.

When you are Quaterback for the Univeristy of Notre Dame you have to be able to take it and Crist has shown he can. I like the fact that Kelly not settle for good enough. In my opinion he will get more out of these players with this method. These guys get to attend one of the best Univeristies in the Nation for free and play football, public criticism should be acceptable for that deal.

this is my first post so whats up everyone. i totally agree. i live in cincy and have been a nd fan my whole life but have really enjoyed watching the bearcats the past couple of years. kelly is very hard on his qbs. you will not see him put his arm around his qb and console him after a mistake. kelly will be in his face. but he gets his point across. if the qbs are weak, than they will not last.

You beat me to it Cincy. Welcome aboard!

For those of you who haven't seen BK in action, he's a friggin nut when it comes to his QBs. I mean, a a Bobby Knight, get in your face and scream your ears off nut. I remember watching him chew out Tony Pike after a bad INT and I thought the dude was going to literally explode. He's harder on QBS than any other position.

But you know? He gets results. Like it was said, if you have thin skin you will not be able to handle BK. You could argue that you don't like his method, and I can definitely see your point, but you can't argue with his results. His QBs, even the 5th string former walk-ons, get the job done. Crist, with his great attitude, talent, and leadership abilities, should absolutely flourish under Kelly, provided he stays healthy...

Brian Kelly needs to stick to HIS philosophy

Brian Kelly needs to stick to HIS philosophy

I can recall reading many stories regarding how Charlie Weis was too hard on his players and was told to back off. I'm not sure how accurate those stories were or who the sources for those stories might have been; however, once Charlie started talking about cutting back - the loss column grew in size. Coach Kelly was hired to do a job, so he needs to be left to his own methods and devices. He has won in Cincinnati and he will win in South Bend.

It is going to be an interesting season.

Is there any talk of ND joining the Big Ten or is that just a rumor?

When Kelly was first hired he said that "it was a priviledge to play at Notre Dame." I think he is hitting the best players the hardest ie. Crist, Manti, Floyd. Not saying that they are big headed, but by singling them out like that, and having them shoulder the burden, it makes them mentally tough but also shows the rest of the team who the leaders are. When Crist accepts the the blame for the offense's woes, he is letting the team know that he is their leader and all blame, good or bad, falls directly on his shoulders.
