Irish bound
Head coach Jason Strunk has seen Jordan Prestwood (Plant City, Fla./Plant City) come a long way.
In a year and a half, the ESPN 150 Watch List offensive tackle prospect has gone from a 6-foot-4, 180-pound sophomore, to a 6-foot-6, 273-pound Notre Dame verbal commit.
At a Monday afternoon press conference, Prestwood publicly announced his college decision, choosing the Irish over scholarship offers from the likes of Florida, Florida State, Alabama, USC, Auburn, Tennessee, South Carolina, Purdue and Central Florida.
“It was an easy decision definitely,” Prestwood told Irish Sports Daily on Saturday afternoon. He becomes the second player in the class-of-2011 to commit to head coach Brian Kelly, joining defensive end Brad Carrico (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman).
“Everything about it, either you fit in there or you don’t. I felt like I fit in their perfectly. Just the people there, the coaches, the players and what the program was all about, really stood out and it was what I feel apart of.”
This is such a huge pickup for Kelly and the Irish. He picked ND over some big-time programs that have been winning BCS games the past several years. When you read the quotes from this kid and why he chose ND you're going to absolutely love him.
For those who didn't read the article BGIF linked, the amazing thing is that he is an O-lineman playing RECEIVER in high school right now. Not tight-end...receiver. He's a true athlete. Not only do they run fades for him, he's doing hitches, bubble screens, go routes, etc. This year his coach is even going to have him run some option...and he's going to be an offensive lineman! And his high school coach runs the same high-tempo no-huddle offense that BK uses, so he'll be used to the tempo.
This is a potential 5 star kid picking ND over the likes of SC, Bama, FL, Miami, etc. So much for the fools who predicted Kelly would ONLY recruit 3 star athletes from the MAC because that's what he always recruited.
HUGE get!
T-A-C-K-L-E E-L-I-G-I-B-L-E
or run him as an H-Back in a Goal Line offense and send him in motion ...
Split him wide at the LOS with the slot back behind him. Pump fake to the slot back to commit the defenders then hit Jordan 8 to 10 yards downfield as he's already cleared the Safety closing on the slot back.
Anybody can draw up a play for Rocket or Tate, I love Big Guy Trickeration.
"Before I take questions," Prestwood said, "my family and I would like to extend our prayers and condolences to the family of Matt James. It saddens me that I lost a fellow Notre Dame commit and future Irish teammate."
Great get at a position of need. I don't think there is an OL recruit who is more suited for Kelly's offense also . . . whether it is on the line or down the field like BGIF suggests
I have visions of Andy Heck, big body, quick hands, nimble feet. Prestwood is an inch shorter but as a HS Jr is already 15 pounds heavier than Heck's playing weight. By the time he steps on campus to practice he'll be Aaron Taylor's playing weight.

On the day of his announcement when so many recruits are focused internally, on "me", Prestwood made it about Family.
