Polish, I can't get the ISD article. Does it sound like an offer is in the works? And, do you have an opinion of this guy?

Sounds it may take a while for the offer to come. I think he would commit in a hurry as he has a shamrock tatoo his arm.

Built like a LB.

Listed as a QB/Ath; does anyone know whether he played on the defensive side of the ball also? With his size, LB postition does look like it's a possible fit (knowing he more than likely will get bigger).

I don't know why he's listed as an ATH. Rivals, Scout, ESPN all list him as a QB. Scouting Ohio lists him as a QB but and in background info notes he plays QB and SS, not LB.

Yes, he has the build to grow into a LB but the same could be said for Quinn, Crist and a lot of other QBs, including Tebow and Demetrious Jones ( who did after injury and failed attempts at Div 1 QB moved him).

Two of the most savage tackles I recall were made by Jarious Jackson in a Blue and Gold Game against defenders that dared to intercept two of his passes. With both INTs he took off immediately and made the tackle on the other side of the LOS. Not your typical QB shuffle dive at the defender's feet nor run the defender into the sideline preventing a TD. Jarious took them on, head-on, wrapped up, and dropped them - on their backs.

Another Carlyle Holiday? Reel him in.

Carlyle Holiday was an option QB forced fit first into Davie's NO ID Offense and then into Willingham's NO Coast Offense. Great young man but not a passing QB.

Coyne is supposed to have a very strong arm and he's mobile but I don't think he's got Carlyle's feet.

He camped at UC last year but didn't pick up an offer from Kelly and hasn't gotten one so far from the new coach.

I wasn't being facetious. I thought Holiday was a beautiful athlete that was misused in Ty's joke of an offense. I got so tired of hearing announcers talk about "West Coast offense." It was offensive.

Hoping Coyne is money. An athlete with that size, speed and ability needs a coach and a system that can use him. Reel him in.

I thought Holiday was a great athlete that was wasted. I knew someone that knew him well. For whatever that means...

Holiday was a great athlete with poor coaching. He might have excelled in Holtz offense but struggled mightily with the passing game, reading defenses, going through progressions, and he publicly acknowledged he struggled with the great speed of the Div 1 game. Like Powlus he was forced to play in offenses that didn't suit his talent. Hopefully Kelly will better adapt his players and offense than Holiday's coaches did.

Sounds like a great kid defending his coach who was completely out of touch. Holiday WAS the speed of the game.

Coyne sounds like a "tweener." Jack of trades. Hope he wants ND.

Holiday acknowledged he struggled with the mental aspects of Div 1 speed of the game, reads, progressions, adjustments. It had nothing to do with his feet. He demonstrated that when he was moved to WR. He was gracious to his coaches, he also was better suited to a different position. I wrote about this back at the time based upon public comments from Holiday and emails from insiders back in the days when I knew some.

Coyne needs to get his butt up to South Bend and make his case for an offer, if he wants one.

Not sure what our point is at this point. If there is a "mental aspect" to reads, progressions, adjustments etc... then that is the fault of the coach.

My point about Coyne and his strength size and ability is I hope he goes into a system that can use him well and not waste him.

505 squat with a 4.7 burst means something.

Reel him in.

PMs is best way to continue the Holiday discourse. We're beyond any connection to Coyne by now.

I understand what you're saying about Coyne's build. Regardless of his potential, he needs to go knock on some doors if they're not knocking on his. He should have been in South Bend last Saturday.

ESPN recently gave up a Grade of 79 and added him to their 150 Watch List.

No offer from ND.

Is ESPN just starting to release their grades? ...I hadn't seen any beyond the typical "40" and "45" for non-watch list players yet.

Anyway, hope he has a good career at Cincy!

I think the 40 was Not Evaluated, 45 was Film Received Not Evaluated. I've seen some 46's but don't know if that was typo or new category.

I don't recall being on the 150 Watch before tonight. His film lists 3/29 as most recent update.
