US has out shot the Swiss 32-8 through two periods, but the score is knotted at 0. Have a sinking feeling headed to the 3rd...
Parise scores again.... onto the medal round bitches... love how the Canadian crowd has been silenced TWICE in two games by our boys
Zach Parise scored twice in the third period as the top-seeded U.S. men's hockey team advanced to the Olympic semifinals with a gut-wrenching 2-0 victory over Switzerland on Wednesday.
The Americans got everything they could handle from the upstart Swiss, who hoped to advance despite being the lowest-ranked team left in the tournament.
Jonas Hiller of the NHL's Anaheim Ducks kept it a contest by making 42 saves for the Swiss. Switzerland recorded 19 shots on Ryan Miller.
"Relief and excitement, especially in a tight game like that when you are doing everything but score," said Parise, who failed to score on his first 13 shots of the tournament. "The goalie was great and we did a good job of sticking with it. We were pretty confident and said just keep putting pucks at him."
The Americans will face the winner of Wednesday's game between the Czech Republic and Finland on Friday, with a place in the gold medal game on the line.
