Cyrus is the brother of Alabama 2010 Signee Arie Kouandjio. He's on everybody's Watch List. Scout has his as their #1 OT, 5 Star. He has an ND offer.

The Alabama mods think that he will be theirs, but they also think he'll take his recruitment all the way to NSD, meaning they think he'll be open to other schools recruiting him...

interesting that he went to the local catholic school there while his brother went to the public hs. can you imagine those two on your hs offensive line?

The Bama coaches have visions of them playing together on their OLine.

This is probably a waste of time. Farrell was saying that he expects him to 'shop around' before finally going to school with his brother. Arie kept mentioning ND but didn't really seem that interested - seems like he liked the attention that came with ND interest. I hope Kelly and Co. focus their efforts elsewhere.

Went to PITT's Jr Day with a teammate, TE Sam Collura. Collura committed; Cyrus didn't. Heading to Morgantown this weekend.

Kouandjio promises to be a big get
By Justin Hopkins CrimsonConfidential Special to ESPN.com College football recruiting -- After landing Arie Kouandjio, brother Cyrus Kouandjio is next on Alabama's wish list - ESPN

...

"I have around, like, 25 offers right now. The latest couple to offer are Notre Dame and New Mexico. I am talking a lot with Auburn and Virginia Tech right now and I think they could be close to offering. Some of the schools that have already offered are Alabama, FSU, Tennessee, USC, LSU, Cal, Maryland, Pitt, West Virginia, Boston College, Iowa, among others. I don't have any top groups or anything right now. I plan to travel around this summer and see some schools. I have been to Virginia, Maryland and Pitt already. I'm going to New Mexico in a few weeks for their spring game."
With his older brother already headed for Tuscaloosa, Cyrus spoke about what his brother likes about Alabama and if a family reunion could be in the future.
"I learned a lot from my brother's recruiting," said Cyrus. "Alabama definitely has my early attention. How could they not? I love coach Sal [Sunseri, assistant head coach/linebackers]. I really feel like I can trust him. I know he'll take care of me. And Coach Saban is really down-to-earth. They have been staying in contact pretty consistently. My brother believes that Coach [Joe] Pendry is the best offensive line coach in the country. That's a pretty big compliment right there."
Said Arie of his brother's recruiting process: "Alabama is great; I think the coaches there are really good, lots of fan support, and everything is all about Alabama football. Me and Cyrus don't really talk about football in the house. I'm real proud of him; he's got a lot of attention and it's really great to see that happen for my younger brother. He's very athletic, which is why coaches really like him. I can still take him on one-v.-ones, though. My advice for him would be to look around and listen, keep an open mind. But definitely, Roll Tide."
Although Alabama would appear to have an inside track, Cyrus maintains he will keep an open mind. He did, however, acknowledge that the Tide are most certainly in the early mix.
The recruiting process can be fun, but exhausting -- prospects are constantly getting pulled from class, answering calls from coaches and the media, and trying to balance school and practice. Cyrus said he is taking it all in stride right now and is in no rush to make a decision early.
"I'm going to take my time; this is just too big of a decision to rush," he said. "I think of it as a 10-year plan: What will this prepare me for 10 years from now? This is a bigger decision than just about football. Number one, I'm looking at the people in the area; four years is a long time. I want to feel comfortable. Number two, the coaching staff will be a very important part of my decision. Number three is education -- gotta have a great education."

Scout.com: Kouandjio Ready For More Visits
By John Wallpher.
4/3/10

Cyrus is thinking of visiting Duke this weekend unsure of whether he'll visit elsewhere during spring break but does plan to attend New Mexico's spring game in April.

Mike Locksley, a recruiting silver tongued wizard, is NM's head coach. Kouandjio is visiting on his own dime.

Football recruiting: 30 offers (including UCLA) and counting for Kouandjio

April 12th, posted by Al Balderas, staff writer

You might not be too familiar with Cyrus Kouandjio but UCLA sure is.
Kouandjio confirmed this past weekend that he has received a scholarship offer from UCLA.
“My latest offer is UCLA,” Kouandjio told scout.com. “I don’t know a lot about them but sounds like a good place to visit. I will try and get there later this summer.”
Kouandjio (6-6, 291) attends DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Md. He has received more than 30 offers from around the country.
Scout.com ranks him as the top-rated offensive tackle. He has already made trips to Penn State, Pittsburgh and plans to go to New Mexico’s spring game this weekend.

Where are we with this guy? Landing one more beast of an OL would cement the OL for Bubba and our NC run.

I'm not too sure we are going to have to wait that long if Kelly gets his system into full swing this year. If there is no NFL next year (possibility) then floyd and Kyle will both return for their senior year along with dayne and that could be a very exciting and promising year for the Irish.

This kid is Bama. Just Bama. Not expecting anything different, but kelly and his staff should continue to pursue and show interest to all the major recruits, until they clearly state "not interested". Otherwise we just settle for second best, never really an option with recruiting.

We didn't make his recent cut, which still includes 11 teams. A little surprised were not in his top 11, though wasn't expecting him in end.

in no order...
Pitt, UVA, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Iowa, UGA, Miami, N. Mex, USC, Cal, Bama.

They have come on strong in recruiting in the past few years. New buildings and equipment and a coach who recruits strongly.
Last year they got a commit from that kid Calvin Smith, DT, from Hialeah Florida. He had offers from ND, Tony Alford recruited him, Bama, all the florida schools, etc. New Mexico can sell their new stadium, up and coming coach and really early playing time.

New Mexico?

They have a coach, Mike Longsley or something like that, who is just a beast on the recruiting trail. (Cal has a similar guy - look at the guys they have been getting, esp defensively) This Longsley guy has been getting some TOP players to look at New Mexico, whereas they wouldn't even take a glance at New Mexico otherwise.
