how quickly is this one going to evaporate? j/k For the Irish to finish they cannot have empty possessions. gotta take quality shots and own the defensive glass in the second half.

45-25 at the half.... Irish shooting nearly 80% for the half.

45-25 at halftime.

Harangody with 12, Nash with 11, Abro with 10. Hansbrough could be looking at a triple-double with 5 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds.

Only trouble is ND has only played 6 guys and WVU has played 11....

Irish up 60-55 just under 9 minutes to play.... Irish getting murdered on the defensive glass. 17 offensive rebounds for WVU. Are they going to hang on??

out of a timeout with under two minutes to play Tory Jackson shoots a 3. Nash grabs the rebound, Irish run more clock which leads to another Jackson 3 point attempt. EMPTY POSSESSIONS!!! DAMMIT BREY!!!

Good win. This was the first ND basketball game I've watched this year, and they have a decent team. I don't like the lack of defense in the Big East though.

WVU was ranked #1 in RPI going in, so you are right that this should move us up. I only saw the second half (missed all the good stuff) and thought we were horrible - but I'm thrilled withe the W:gbanana:

Unfortunatley I had the "over" and lost thanks to our 10+ minutes without a field goal:(.

Good win for the program tonight!

You know for all the times I see us collapse defensively and sometimes not be able to manufacture a lot of points on offense, I really, really like Mike Brey. I think he is a good coach in some regards, and not so hot in other areas - but you cannot help but love the guy. He is crazy about the University. He supports lots of charity and University events. He is a nice guy. I definitely hope we can have a good season for he and Gody... It would be awesome to at least see us get an NCAA tourney bid. It will be a rough road though.

Here's his post-game on ISD: Notre Dame Football - Mike Brey Post Game 1-9-10

I think I may have underestimated this team a little bit this year. A good win for sure but still a looooooong way to go. They almost chocked still but they hung on. Well done Irish. Next time when you are up by 24 point in the 2nd half dont only win by 2. Why do they ALWAYS have to make games so close? FINISH for once. Makes me think Weis has something to do with the basketball program too.

Anyone know the deal with Charleton Scott and him leaving the team?

South Bend Tribune: Notre Dame Men's Basketball: Scott's future in limbo

By TOM NOIE
Tribune Staff Writer

1/08

...

Scott, a junior from San Antonio, will not play Saturday against No. 8 West Virginia at Purcell Pavilion. According to a Notre Dame spokesperson, Scott has taken an "indefinite leave of absence" after meeting Friday morning with coach Mike Brey.

The spokesperson stressed that the leave is not related to academics or any violation of team rules.
Scott, who was attending Mass with his teammates early Friday evening, part of the normal pre-game routine, was not available for comment. He did practice with the team Friday, but will not attend the West Virginia game.

Brey, who was preparing for Saturday's matchup late Friday, will address Scott's situation following the West Virginia game. He will meet with Scott and his parents Sunday or Monday. There's a chance that Scott may return for next Saturday's game against Cincinnati. There's a chance he might not return.

Scott's father, Michael, told the Tribune early Friday afternoon that his only son was being disciplined for a rather odd reason.

Michael Scott said that in a phone conversation with Notre Dame associate athletic director Jim Fraleigh, who oversees the men's basketball program, he was told that his son's leave was necessitated after Michael Scott contacted a Tribune reporter Wednesday morning with concerns about his son's future in the program.

"They said that Carleton was being a distraction," Michael Scott said. "Why would a kid who is 21 years old be forced to deal with consequences from a choice a parent makes?"

Fraleigh, who spoke with Michael Scott for the first time Friday afternoon, denied any notion that Carleton Scott was suspended for something his father might have said to the media.

Fraleigh also disputed the elder Scott's assertion that Fraleigh counseled Michael Scott not to have any additional contact with the Tribune, and that doing so might impact his son's future at the university.

"That's totally inaccurate," Fraleigh said. "I don't know why he would say that. I just wouldn't do that."

...

more at the link.

BTW, his first name is spelled Carleton.

BlueandGold.com // Life Without Carleton

1/9 Todd Burlage

The Irish program was hit by both Friday when junior forward Carleton Scott decided to take an indefinite leave of absence from the team. According to a story in the South Bend Tribune, Scott will definitely not play tonight. He could return as soon as Jan. 16 against Cincinnati or choose not to return at all.
