Isn't his wife the one who wears the pants in that family?

"Honey... I'm retiring... guess I won't be one of the highest paid coaches in college football anymore, but I'll have peace of mind and be able to spend all my time at home with you."

"Say what??????????????"

HAHAHAHA!

I was wrong

I was wrong

Last night I felt respect and a little sorrow for Meyer, now after what I heard its bordering on the absurd. I was one last year that wanted this guy if Charlie failed, now I see Notre Dame was protected by some Luck of the Irish or devine intervention. Can you imagine the circus if this guy would have came to Notre Dame. It looks a little bit like its a whole lot about Mr Meyer and not so much about his profession, you just cant do this to a football program. They may have problems now. He is what he is and to do the job in a less than Meyer way in my opinion wont work out.

It's now reported that Urban Liar is now taking an "indefinite leave" as opposed to retiring.

We should have seen this coming with all of the hysterics... the weeping on the sidelines... the deteriating performance... preaching God like a street person - writing on his face... oh, wait... that was Teabag.... never mind.

I don't wish ill health on anyone, so even though I don't like the man very much, I hope Urban is OK and has a full recovery, for his family's sake as much as his. But I also hope that program crumbles in his absence, and when he comes back he's basically taking over the University of Kentucky football program.

Does that make me a bad person?

I never understood the "stress" with these jobs.

The only stress is the stress you create for yourself.

Nobody will live or die based on your decisions, you arent in harms way, its a game, youre paid millions and your players are paid 0.

I dont get it. I am a small business owner and I only feel stress if I worry about things outside of my control. Therefore I dont worry about things outside my control.

Educate me because I dont see the job as stressful. Maybe im naive but his job sounds fun to me. Making 5 mil a year to boot.

Pat Forde did a pretty good job of capturing how many people feel about this situtation, both inside and outside of Gator Nation.

What does Urban Meyer really want? - ESPN

The likelihood that he will return to coaching is a good thing -- college football is better with Urban Meyer than without him. Everyone should hope one of the game's brightest stars strikes a perfect work-family balance and lives a long and healthy life.

But Florida's "We Love Us" Sunday press conference left me feeling like Urban just had a drama-queen weekend for the ages.

The stress of this job is not coaching 4/5 star studs on Sat its what they are doing the other 6 days of the week and managing to justify your own ethical values and be the coach at a place like Fla. These schools dont care about the players its 'just win', the SEC is win at all costs except for Vanderbilt and now he's in up to his eyeballs with Ala/LSU and upcoming Tenn/Auburn?Miss St/Ark. There is no pressure other than being exposed as a hypocrite and knowing how hard it will be to control these guys. For fans of Notre Dame its hard to understand but I live down here and trust me these schools could not care any less about these young men other than are you winning football games. Add a little drama queen flavor and you have what happened this weekend. The job at Notre Dame would have eaten him up. Pat Fordes words were actually funny in the way he presented it--but true.

One day he's gone - asshat, er... I mean Teabag (hey, I make fun of Jimmy Swaggart too) cries and he comes back... Teabag graduates and recruits come in... he'll be gone again.

On again, off again. Retirement/Leave of absence reports are designed to motivate team for the Sugar Bowl. Or....keep him on board...until the AD retires and Meyer takes his job. How does one decide to retire one day and before extensive heart test, decide he is ready to coach next season. Something doesn't smell right here.

For the conspiracy theorists ...

For the conspiracy theorists ...

It was real.

911 call reveals Meyer was rushed to hospital after complaining of chest pains - Associated Press - College Football - Sporting News

Florida coach Urban Meyer complained of chest pain and said his side was tingling before he was hospitalized after the SEC championship game earlier this month, according to a 911 recording.
Meyer's wife told an Alachua County dispatcher that her 45-year-old husband had a pulse but wasn't talking when she contacted emergency officials at 4:27 a.m. on Dec. 6, hours after the Gators returned home from their 32-13 loss to Alabama.
"My husband's having chest pains," Shelley Meyer said. "He's having chest pains, he just woke up in the middle of the night and said he's having chest pains."
Shelley Meyer said her husband had taken a sleeping pill that night and had suffered chest pains before.

Never really doubted the legitimacy of his claims just the way it's being dealt with is a joke.

I thought the illness was genuine and that the LOA was contrived by the AD/Powers in a panic when they realized they were facing a recruiting disaster with 5 weeks to go. Meyers and Strong were too big a loss. Meyer may coach again but I seriously doubt it.

Having chest pain is a part of hard, high-stress jobs. Somebody get Meyer a cookie and his binkie.

First Casualty of the LOA

First Casualty of the LOA

per ESPN

Four-star senior Matt Elam (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Dwyer) has decommitted from the Gators and is now on board with the Seminoles, ESPN's JC Shurburtt reports.

Prior to the news of Urban Meyer's indefinite leave of absence, there was uncertainty surrounding Elam's pledge to Florida. However, in October he firmed up his commitment, according to the Palm Beach Post.

The 6-foot, 205-pound talent was named Florida's Gatorade Player of the Year for his performance this fall.

His brother played for ND.

EDIT from mods: leave out the personal attacks. Thanks

This has more to do with mental instability than chest pain.... you don't resign, leaving the new elite on the block in a lurch, based on your health and family, only to meet with players whose emotion persuade you a LOA is a better idea... "I might die... this is bad for my family..." - "Oh, good practice... I'm back!!!" Debate what you want... to think he's anything more than unstable is naive. IMO... even if he takes the helm again after signing day.... it will be short lived and he won't have the nerve to bring them back to a NC... he showed a lack of what we thought he had by riding Tebow a year longer than he should have.

Ya sounds about right. The speed in which he started backpedaling the decision to leave was quite odd.

Watch the personal shots buddy. Jeff adds an opinion I personally appreciate.

Agreed

I can handle the personal attacks... before my divorce I was married 20 years - - 30 years with windchill factor.... I learned from experience divorce like comedy - isn't pretty.... shit rolls off my back like a duck... if I couldn't take it I wouldn't throw it out there... also, I'm an attorney... no conscience anyway... besides: beauty knows no pain.
