Here's a copy of what I posted this morning on the "Recruiting Update" thread:

"Here's a kid recommended by Lemming... an ex-teamate of Te'o...

"Back to Hawaii?

CBS College Sports recruiting analyst Tom Lemming says it may be worth Kelly's while.

A former high school teammate of Irish freshman linebacker Manti Te'o is an uncovered gem, according to Lemming. And he's not the only one who thinks so.

Jeremy Ioane is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound senior linebacker at the Punahou School in Honolulu but projects as a college strong safety and has drawn comparisons to Pittsburgh Steelers star Troy Polamalu.

“He even used to look like Troy Polamalu, but he cut his hair this year,” said Brian Te'o, Manti's father and an assistant coach at Punahou. “He's quick and complemented Manti very well. I think he would be ready to play at Notre Dame or any collegiate program.”

So far, only Boise State, Hawaii, Washington and Utah have gotten involved with Ioane."

only link I can find on the kid:

I have to say...I don't know much about the technical aspects of the game (my coaches were terrible), but this kid plays with bad intentions. He throws himself around, strips the ball, and seems to love contact.

Don't know how he translates to the college level, but that's a damn good highlight reel.

Just from watching, it appears this kid has terrific lateral speed and a nose for the football - two very important aspects for a college player. It appears his straight-line speed is good as well, although that is harder to tell against the talent he is facing. Scout lists him as a 4.54 40 which is pretty good, but those can be so twisted that they are hardly an equal benchmark across the board. Again, kid is a football player through and through, which I like. It certainly would have been nice to see him in coverage more, to see what his quickness and agility were like. We got to see mostly blitzes, spies, and some run reads - which don't give an awesome indication of the kid's ability to play safety. Definitely would extend an offer, however. Exciting film and good in the weight room, no doubt. Talk to him Manti...

I'm sold.

He's physical and certainly plays with a mean streak. He'd be a great addition to help get back to that nasty defense that a former coach used to talk about.

I think at this point recruiting is done until after the 1st of the year. BGIF probably knows... I don't claim to know everything... okay, I do claim that... but I think there are severe limitations on contacts at this time of year until after the 1st of the year.

ISD:

"With the dead period now underway (no off campus visits to recruits allowed, and only one call per week), Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly and his limited staff only have a few more weeks to hang on to the current commitments before beginning to hire additional assistant coaches. The sooner the staff is assembled, the sooner recruiting will pick up."

As of last week Jeremy has no offer from ND. He visited Boise State officially last weekend and will visit Hawaii after the holidays. Hopefully over the next couple weeks Alford and Kelly will get to evaluate him. I would love to see him come to ND.

This kid looks really solid...ND should give him a look.

The one thing that really concerns me though is that he basically never dropped back on coverage in that video, and with his size, he can't rush all the time in college!

I would love for ND to go back into Punahou High School and solidify a pipe line there. More Hawaiian players the better. Look at his highlight the kid has that Te'o aspect very intense..

ND might be looking at him, Kelly is used to getting these "diamond in the rough" recruits, but i wouldn't be to happy i just hope Kelly wasnt excited by the Austin Collinsworth commit, i don't want him getting happy with cinncinati type commits i want notre dame type commits

Cinci type commits are 12-0 and playing in the BCS, Notre Dame type commits that Charlie got are home for the holidays....I am sure he is excited about Collinsworth b/c he believes he is an RKG.

Watch it, you'll be in trouble for negative thoughts about BK's recruits.

Boise State is his slight leader. Has not heard much from ND however he came on radar very shortly before the quiet period so things may change. He wants a quiet recruitment and I honestly think he would go ND if offered. Papa Teo has been pushing the ND staff to look at and talk to him.
