Does anybody see this over on Rivals? And does anybody see this as anything but bad for our program, bringing somebody back from one of the laziest regimes ever in South Bend?

These first 9 days are giving me a sinking feeling. (I want the feeling to be wrong.)

Hahahaha....

Can't we bring back Minter for another stint as well?

Perhaps Baer???

Is Gerry's number still on speed dial in the coaching complex....

Geesh.

Why not at least try to keep Parmalee. He was doing pretty good with the TE's. Now I'm starting to feel sick to my stomach!

Denbrock was Ty Willingham's TE coach and our new TE coach. Is this the former assistant that was supposed to get us all excited?

According to the article on Rivals he has recruited and developed some quality NFL players, while under Ty and by all accounts looks to be a solid addition to the staff. I'm afraid the staff selections are going to turn into another Stoops drama session again, but I hope not.

Also, ISD reporting that they don't have any confirmations on whether he has been offered a contract or hired, but do see it as a legitimate possibility.

What has he done since being at ND? Did he go to Wash with Ty? Is he still there or did he leave when Ty left Wash? Can anyone shed some light on this?

Denbrock's coaching history:

Year
1986-87 Grad. Ass. Grand Valley State
1988-89 Grad. Ass. Michigan State
1990-91 Tackles/TE Illinois State
1992-95 Off. Coord. Grand Valley State
1996-98 Def. Coord. Grand Valley State
1999 Ass. Head Coach Buffalo Destroyers (AFL)
2001 Tackles/TE Stanford
2002-03 OL/TE? Notre Dame
2005-08 OL Washington
2009-Pres Assoc. Head Coach/ST/Linebackers Indiana State

Interesting, varied background. However, the stops at GVSU make all the sense in the world as to why he would be coming.

Also supposedly instrumental in recruiting Brady Quinn.

Guys, its all about the head coach in college. The micro analyzing of position coaches is born of it being late December and were not in a bowl game.

Why dont we just trust Kellys resume and success in all levels and let him do his job and we will see come September.

Head coach is clearly most important, but really, after Charlie, I think you would have to agree that assistant coaches are pretty darn important. I'm pretty sure any thread for any team would discuss the potential candidates for open assistant coaching positions. We have a right to speculate, I believe.

If I remember the story correctly, ND did not recruit Brady Quinn, but rather, Brady Quinn recruited ND. The popular rumor was that Willingham had no interest in Quinn, even while recruiting Chinedum Ndukwe (a high school teammate of Quinn's), but that Quinn's father had to corner the ND people and sell Brady to them.

Im in no way knocking anybody for discussing it, I just dont understand people writing off hires as "failures" 8 months before a game is played, especially a previously successful assistant.

Wow! Interesting... never knew that. I had taken that right off of his bio on Indiana State's website: Mike Denbrock Bio - GoSycamores.com—Official Web Site of Indiana State Athletics. I'm sure you are right... that's interesting that he claims he was in that case. Maybe he was one of the inside guys pushing for Brady??

While I know he coached Fasano and Carlson when they were here, I would attribute them being in the pros to CW almost as much as I would Denbrock, and besides, we know how lousy recruiting was under Ty, is this who you want recruiting kids to ND? Not to mention that he was not only listed as TE's but OT's as well, there is just a shitty feeling in my gut when I think about any of Ty's assistants coming back to coach at ND.

Yeah, the recruiting was so lousy it was these players that got Weis his 2 BCS bowl appearances. When are we gonna forget about the little stars next to guys names and worry about what we see on the field?

Weis' #1 class in the country (1-6 depending on the "service") lead ND to a 6-6 season and looked brutal doing it.

It was also those last 2 recruiting seasons of TY that can mainly be attributed to going 3-9... Two worst in the history of ND... what 2 draft picks?

Before you blast CW for the 3-9... Ty's last Washington team went 0-12 and this year went 4-8 with Ty's great recruits????

That being said... I have no problem with Denbrock.. based on Fasano and Carlson...

Not intending to blast anybody except people who are wrapped up in the recruiting services rankings.

I was one of the worst ones. I walked around telling the casual fan "just wait, '09 is the year, just wait for these classes to come up through the pipe"

Personally I thought Ty being canned in 3 years was the absolute correct call. I also think CW getting 5 years on "potential" was also a correct call.

I have learned that ND needs great coaches, dont care the name or where he is from. Ive now seen 2 coaches at ND that had great recruiting according to those in the know and always had poor won/loss records. Faust and Weis were out of their element. One from high school, the other from the NFL, both couldnt coach college players.
