You would have to think that James would follow Brian Kelly if he was offered the ND gig, right? Or at least it should eliminate Cincy because Kelly's possible replacement can't have too impressive of a background.

This seemed like a two horse race for a long time with ND and Cincy in the battle. I didn't think OSU was still in it and I never heard of Florida being in it.

If James still makes the trip to the banquet I think he's Irish. Weis will be at the banquet and it will be closed to the public, so I bet it will be an emotional event. Could be a great tool to get a recruit to feel the family environment.

James is down to Cinci and OSU with Weis being fired. Unless Kelly is the next coach, he is not coming to ND

Here's my thing... kid was down to ND and Cincy probably due to the coaches. This kid now gets the ND education with Kelly as his Coach? Massive Win-Win on his part?

James goes to my HS alma mater. With Kelly at ND, we should hopefully be able to reel him in. There are a lot of St. X kids at ND, but it's been a little while since we had one on the football team.

Coach cannot talk about specific recruits. But I get your point. Hopefully the James presser is set for 4pm ET or so.

He said that he needs to assess the situation for a day or 2 before commenting. Interesting take. My guess is he's waiting to see who the staff would be???

Definitely not a shoe in, he is very level headed with his recruitment , which I like.

Kelly's hiring hasn't affected OL James' recruitment, yet - ESPN

Interesting that the title on the Link says:

Kelly's hiring hasn't affected OL James' recruitment, yet

while the title on the article is:

James' recruitment still open

According to Kurelic James is taking a previously scheduled trip to OSU. The only unaffected part is James still visiting OSU. He also plans to visit UF, UC and ND.

[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]Two Cincinnati high school coaches Monday could not deliver good news on two prep recruits Notre Dame is courting for the class of 2010.But they also did not deliver any bad news on the yet-to-be-determined final decisions of Moeller quarterback Andrew Hendrix and St. Xavier offensive lineman Matt James.

Neither coach wavered, though, when it came to discussing the man who is, right now, the most famous person who used to live in Cincinnati - Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly.

“I think Notre Dame made a perfect decision,” said St. Xavier coach Steve Specht. “He's one of the top five college coaches in the country.

James, a 6-foot-7, 285-pound offensive linemen, is the kind of player, Specht said, “who can play on Sundays.”

“He's a great kid who works as hard in practice as he does in the games,” he added.

His earlier visit was to have occurred the weekend after Weis was fired. That visit never took place.

Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida, and Kelly's former school, Cincinnati, are the final four for James.

He has only visited Ohio State, Specht said. He is still trying to set up a visit to Florida and spoke to Kelly recently and plans to set up a visit soon at Notre Dame.

“The sky's the limit for that young man,” Specht said.

But his decision on college could still be quite a ways off.

“Right now he is just trying to regain his bearings,” Specht said. “I don't think he is going to make his decision until signing day.”

Per ISD, he has an official visit with Florida on Jan 16th and a tentative official visit to Cincinatti still planned for either the 23rd or 30th of January, but hasn't scheduled it.

Not according to ISD, he is down to OSU and ND from what they can tell, but they say he plays things close to the vest. Plus, with the current situation at Florida as it is at the moment, I would think they would weigh even more heavily in our or tOSU's favor.

I would have to agree w/ you. There's something fishy when a HC at a major CFB power goes from retirement one day to "indefinite leave" the next!?! I believe the "indefinite leave" statement came out as a "stop gap" for recruit defections!

So... I'm still waiting for some freaking O-Lineman... unless we plan on taking 11 in the next recruiting cycle.

Should be a top recuit priority for Coach Kelly. I think he is ND if we show interest and soon.

Yea, it would be nice if they actually show some interest in the kid....I mean the scholarship offer and the phone calls are nice.......but let's get this kid a Hummer or maybe a nice house over in Elkhart........that would be really stepping up to the plate....

I'd be worried.... when's he gonna flip again... particularly when it's your (recruits) career on the line... You don't want to go into an unstable situation... Tebow isn't gonna be there to cry and write bible passages on his face - begging Urbey not to leave.

Again..... Stay classy JefMaj. You just really cant grow up and get over it can ya?

Anyways, back on subject. I really like our chances with James. For along time, it seemed to be down to ND and Cincy, but with us picking up Kelly, it then seems to switch to ND and OSU.

One of them didnt change...... that being us. Im thinking Kelly will pull this big mamah jama OT towards the golden dome when its all said and done.

Like with Seantrel Henderson Browning coming to ND as OL coach should have more impact on Matt James that the Meyer Saga. Nix committing to ND without a head coach or a DL coach was an exception. Most players aren't going to pull the trigger with so much in doubt. With Browning on board James, Henderson and maybe Stone will be in a position to evaluate who the coaches are that will help shape their future.

Browning is a Midwest guy, born in Ohio long time OL coach at Minnesota. He should have a relationship with James high school coach. As a GA at Tennessee Browning was permitted to make phone calls to recruits so a call from ND to James shouldn't be his first.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

DELETE!

Enough with the Tebow/Meyer/whatever whine. Take your rants to a football thread or the Lep Lounge. This is Matt James Profile. Post accordingly.

Check your PMs.

Per ISD, he is looking at a visit to ND campus on the 23rd or 30th. However, he does have a visit to Florida on Jan 16th and a tentative visit scheduled with UC on the 23rd, but he will be making a visit back to South Bend sometime in January. He did have an official visit to tOSU in mid December as well. Many still believe it's between ND and tOSU.

All I have read is how mean and vicious of a lineman he is, and thats how our O-linemen should be. Big- huge maulers who will push the ref out of the way to open a hole for our backs.

Give me a mean, huge midwestern O-lineman over anyone else any day!

Irish stay on Ohio O-lineman

Irish stay on Ohio O-lineman

After Brian Kelly landed the Notre Dame job, the first uncommitted recruit he contacted was offensive lineman Matt James. James has narrowed his choices down to Notre Dame, Ohio State, Cincinnati and Florida. Kelly had been recruiting James while he was at Cincinnati and quickly picked things up with the huge lineman at his new school. James has made an official visit to Ohio State, and has visits set to Florida Jan. 15 and Cincinnati Jan. 22. He will also make an official visit to Notre Dame. At this point the Irish have only one offensive line commitment, Christian Lombard. While Lombard is one of the top offensive line prospects in the Midwest, a priority for Kelly is to land at least one more outstanding offensive lineman for his 2010 class.<!-- end free preview text -->
