7-5 and we will be calling for BK's head....LOL
7-5 and we will be calling for BK's head....LOL

Now then...Looking ahead...The defense can only get better (since they couldn't get much worse) and the offense won't miss a beat...We all know Clausen and Tate were studs; but this time we have guys ready to step in (Crist and Floyd) and our offense will be very solid and efficient...In fact, they'll probably be even more explosive under Kelly's schemes...Sooooo, with a more explosive offense, improved defense, improved special teams, and the team being hungrier and re-energized overall, I will go ahead and make the bold prediction right now: 11-0 heading out to visit USC...and that will be one helluva ballgame...That game will determine either a NC season for us or just a BCS bowl bid...but I'm confident in us playing in a BCS bowl game next season (and BK will win "coach of the year" honors for his work at ND)...End of story...My prediction won't change regardless of who is, or isn't, brought in...That's my expectation because that's the ND standard.
Some questions & thoughts:
1) the offense won't miss a beat when the best quarterback and the best wide receiver (statistically) to ever play at Notre Dame leave early for the draft?
2) the offense won't miss a beat implementing a completely new system in the spring?
3) the offense won't miss a beat with a QB who may not be ready for action until the fall?
4) how is it going to be more explosive with Tate gone?
5) The defense will improve b/c you are right, they can't get much worse. However, we still don't have a competent defensive line - that won't change in a year. There are so many other problems with the defense it probably deserves its own post.
5) So let me get this straight: You predict 11-1 or 12-0 every single year irrelevant of what is happening inside the ND football program? Did you predict we'd go undefeated in 2007? The only realistic expectation ND alumni/sub-alums can have right now is that Kelly will improve this football team, hopefully drastically. But to expect an undefeated season after losing Clausen and Tate leave is kind of ridiculous
6) The ND standard has changed. It was changed by the ND administration when it made 4 bad coaching hires in a row. They have shown an indifference to the football program since Lou was forced out. Lets hope Kelly can return the program to a level where 11-1 and 12-0 is the standard - right now every realistic person here should expect (and hope for) a vastly improved football team, regardless of record.
8-4. You heard it here first.
I like Dayne's wheels. I think it will be able to open up a completely new wrinkle to the O.

Wayyyyyyyyyy to early for these predictions. My God we just got a coach. We don't even know who is going to be on the field (5th years). Why don't we do first things first?
1) Get a coaching staff together
2) Solidify and sign the 2010 recruiting class in February
3) Get through spring ball
4) Let's do our evaluations/ predictions after the spring game in April.
Making predictions now is as useful as making predictions about the 2012 pres. election
and it will be the guys that were begging for Kelly that do so.
i agree with camp 8 wins is wherei am at right now but a 9-10 win season is a possibility depending on who they get to coach the D
I'm worried about another Crist injury, forcing Hendrix into the starting lineup so early in his career.

ND's record perhaps 8-4 or even worse, perhaps 10-2 or even better. The defense will determine much of that record. I found that some times we were out of position to make a play on defense. But many times the defender was there. He simply missed the tackle. Execution is the key to winning. Whether it be on offense or defense. You have to make the blocks and hit the pass routes, hit the gaps on runs, and run the correct route on passes. On defense you must wrap up. wrapping up is just as important as hitting hard.
It is just as important as being in the right place to make a play. The defense must attack with as much tenacity as the offense attacks. Much will depend on the discipline that Coach Kelly brings. Penalties are often a lack of focus and discipline. Focus and discipilne are the two glaring shortcomings on ND defense. If these two areas are not addressed it will not matter who is throwing or running the football we will not be successful. On the otherhand if they are, it will not matter who is throwing or running the football we will be successful. Execution on defense is the key to this season, or a lack thereof. One more stop per game in the losses would mean we would be 12-0. 2-3 more stops would mean we would have dominated everyone we played. Ask yourself, in the losses did we or did we not have the opportunity to make at least one more defensive stop?
