The ugliness of Kelly's departure from Cinci is going to be the new fuel im sure. The hypocrisy is ridiculous in it all, it happens all the time but because this is ND it is going to be a big deal.

The system is the problem with college ball. The 30-45 day lull between seasons ending and the last game is, in my opinion, the dumbest thing in all of sports.

As far as his players popping off on him, lets see if when Gilyard becomes a NFL free agent some day he stays with the same team if another team comes in with a better deal.

The Sugar Bowl is just a high dollar exhibition game. Cinci gets paid win or lose. Kelly has done his job for Cinci.

It sucks and if a ND coach did this we would villify him forever but this is business. If youre a lawyer and have a big case coming up and another firm snatches you and doubles your pay and the firm is 10 times more prestigious, you go and people rave about how smart you are.

Cincy fans. I am sorry for the difficult timing, but you should know that this is college football busines. Furhter, understand that Brian Kelly made a huge business decision. He could not tell you he was leaving while negotiations are still taking place. Sorry, but it is big business.

The funny thing is that people who complain will always find something to complain about.
For those people that are upset about the circumstances in the hiring of Coach Kelly. Perhaps you should ask yourself some questions.

Q: If you were against the NFL route?

A: If you were, then the only coaches left were college and high school coaches. We have
gone the sucessful high school coaching route before with disasterous results.
Realistically leaving only college coaches to choose from.

Q: If we hired a succesful college coach, would the team he was coaching be

preparing for some sort of bowl game? Furthermore. would not a BCS Bowl game be
an indicator of the level of his success?

A: yes and hopefully yes

Q: Would we want that coach to come on board immediately to give stability to the
program and quash the uncertainty of who's coaching ND in hopes of
preserving the recruiting class?

A: Yes

Q: If Cincinatti is to beat Florida, do you believe the Bearcats must player harder
than in any game this year?

A: Yes

Q: Would Cincinatti play harder for a Coach they new was leaving after the bowl game
or would they play harder for a coach that was picking up the pieces?

A: ?

Could the situation have been handled better? Maybe, I don't really know. What I do know is that, I myself have made decisions on what to do or say, that I believed was the right way to handle something, and been absolutely truthful, only to have it blow up in my face. Leaving me to wonder if I had been less truthful would things have worked out better for everyone involved. I will never know, because even though you may be faced with many options in any given situation, you can only choose one. The results of choosing the other options will remain forever unknown. I would like to tell you that every option that I picked was the right one. That of course would be very very untrue. All I can do is move on and try to make my future choices better. Although, I think I a pretty smart guy, someone that only focused on the bad choices I have made might think me an idiot.

There's a few articles at Bleacher Report that are just blasting ND & Kelly. After reading them, I had to go wash my eyes out. The stupidity and down-right antagonistic attitudes of some of the "writers" is overwhelming.

I believe that Kelly was as upright and truthful, as much as he could be, during the entire hiring process. Can you imagine the media frenzy if he said he was going to ND before the Pitt game? The kids at Cincy would be even more devastated than they are now. At least now they have time to get their team together and make plans to beat the Gayturds.

im surprised that so many would be such homers about it. the op said it right we would have been up in arms and vilified him forever if he had done that to notre dame.

the issue is the system not the man, sure hes a dick for doing that hes a dick for going into kids living rooms and telling their parents he is there for them and then leaving. how could you say he isnt?

the issue is that college football sets it up to be this way, recruiting in december is HUGE in college football. if they want garbage like this to stop happening its easy just dont let them recruit until the bowls are finished. but that is an issue now that they have pushed them out to what the 2nd week of january this year?

that is what needs to happen and unless they change the way they do bowl games this is really the only way to make it work. the only other way is to do like the pros and say you cant take another job until your season is over. that doesnt really work in the college ranks though with recruiting people would never be able to leave and imagine if they did they would really completely lose an entire years worth of recruits.

its a shitty situation.

Let's not go overboard, here. College coaches can absolutely help a troubled kid turn his life around, or even help a kid with his head on straight to achieve results he never dreamed possible. But they are NOT the kids' parents. This whole crap of "promising that you will be there for the kid, and then bolting" is just that.............crap. Coaches are not obligated to provide anything other than coaching to these kids. To read some of the comments, you would think that people have confused Brian Kelly changing jobs with these kids' fathers walking out on them. Football can teach kids alot about life. But Brian Kelly was the head FOOTBALL coach at Cincy, not the head LIFE coach. If the kids' parents want them to stay on the straight and narrow, they need to step up and do their own jobs. And one life lesson that these kids can take away from their current football situation: you have to be who and what you are, and do what is right, regardless of what others around you are doing.

Couldn't every recruited player have the same gripe after talking with a coach in his living room about going to a particular school.

1. How does a coach recruit someone and say I want you to come to such and such, by the way I'm not going to be there?

2. What if he infers that he will be there, than he isn't?

3. When a coach recruits an individual, how long must the coach stay to honor the commitment on his part?

Whatever, people would have been upset either way. I agree it is the system that forces the way that somethings are handled.

Answer for ND haters in my college bowl mania room

Answer for ND haters in my college bowl mania room

Original posting by my buddy:

Here comes the Catholics, reaching for the sky
Praying for a winning Football, asking God why
16-21 over the last three years, brings a tear to their eye
They just want a program like UT, but pigs don't fly
The fans have lost all hope, left with coach Kelly
They think he might have balls, there not hidden by his belly
The lost their QB and receiver Tate, Their O-line is off to molest little boys
Teach them what they learned in school, and show them some new toys
can you just see confession, with our future priests
Big fat white guys, wearing jock straps for briefs

My answer:

Amidst a sky at autumn, Our Lady of the Lakes beauty waits
For she guards quite a spectacle comparable to heaven’s gates
Across the wide open stands akin to all
For Him, the “Touchdown Jesus,” may bless them should they answer his call
On the side of Hesburgh Library does that giant stand
To congratulate a spirit whose noise is much louder than the band
The Lady and Jesus have witnessed failure and greatness alike
As have all fans should they persevere and weather the storm
The Golden Dome doesn’t make us different, and neither does our pride
What truly makes us different comes from deep inside
Though fair winds will come blowing at our backs again someday
The fact resounds all others will still even hate us, BECAUSE WE ARE NOTRE DAME.
The most storied football program in all of college football is the title we hold
It would take years of Texans and Trojans combined,
To besiege that which we behold
Do not forget these things, as the eleventh hour is nigh,
Be sure to kiss those with the title “Golden” now,
So we may spare you someday your pride…

WE ARE ND!

i am not saying he should be their parent i am saying that you KNOW he went in and made all sorts of promises that were half bullshit and then did not fulfill his obligation to the kid.

its just one of those things in college football, the real thing is that he should finish out the season with his team, the only way to accomplish that is to say you cant change teams until the season is over and then you would have to suspend recruiting activity during the december break.

the whole situation stinks but its a damn shame when a group does well and goes to a bowl only to not have their coach there. it really cheapens the whole bowl experience, i am less likely to watch cinci play without their coach. and they are in a bcs bowl.

How can you say that he is obligated to stick around for all 4 years of any kid's career? By that logic, once a coach signs with a school, he is going to be obligated to coach there forever. He is ALWAYS going to have some kid that he recruited, who is still playing.

writers just trying to stir up controversy. Need something to write about. after a couple wins maybe a NC or two (or 10...I can dream) and everyone forgets who BK coached for before he was at ND.
