LB Manti Te’o, Notre Dame – Te'o was every bit as talented as the press clippings indicated when he was considered a consensus blue-chipper from Hawaii. After a slow start, he got comfortable and really started to flash all of his athletic ability and penchant for planting opposing players. He finished with 63 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss, clearly getting more comfortable as the season progressed.

Charlie did one thing his predecessor didnt - left the cupboards stocked nicely.

This reminds me of Faust regime rolling over into Holtz's regime. Faust could land great players but couldnt get the most out of them. If we do get Kelly, he gets the most out of what he has is his track record.

good for us, 2 young guys recognized. I hope next year T'eo stays and is 1st team all american.

Doesn't T'eo go on his missionary work the next two years? If so, he'll return for the new coaches' third year.

No, when he returns, he is still a sophomore. Missions do no count towards years of eligibility.

I wouldn't count on that. Now that the House Commerce Committee is involved in NCAA football, who knows what kind of nonsense we will see?

i thought there was a rule where you could play 4 years but it had to be finished in 5 years, is that not true?

I thought he would have 2 years left. Anyone able to clarify this?

nevermind, I'm wrong.

NCAA eligibility rules allow for a two-year religious mission or for other service such as the Peace Corps or armed services. Thus, it can take an athlete up to seven years from the time he enrolls in college to complete his eligibility -- his first as a freshman, two years on a mission, one as a redshirt and three after that.

I think you are right. But I think that there are provisions for extending the time you have to complete it, in certain situations. Jason White, at Oklahoma, got a 6th year, if I remember correctly.

You weren't wrong.

The NCAA allows Div 1 athletes 5 years to play 4 but there are the exceptions you listed above and a possible medical year. The exceptions have to be applied for and the additional year for medical is not automatic.

ok, cool, i was just remembering that if I played in div 1, I couldn't leave for 2 years come back and have 3 years left. At least that's what I thought at the time.
