I don't think there is a coaching job in America that offers the prestige and recognition of the ND HC, with the exception of the NYY. A ND coach who brings home a NC automatically becomes a legend.

Please tell me you're kidding . . . .
What year is this again?
2009 and he's right. It's the same reason why when I was in a bar over (England) here and started speaking to a man with a "Wolverines" top he said he "liked the top". It's why you can watch Michigan but you live ND.
For better or worse, we're always ND and no one else can say that.
its all a matter of perspective. that is a nice corny saying, but if you think people dont live Michigan and UM football (or a number of other historically prominent schools), well, thats a bit arrogant. ive travelled all over the world and lived in Japan, Germany, The Netherlands, and India. i can assure you, the University of Michigan is well known and highly regarded internationally. no one else can say we are Michigan or we are Navy or we are Alabama, etc, etc....sorry, there are schools with just as much history and tradition as ND.
but i digress. there is no doubt the ND head coaching job is a very high profile job. it does not follow that it is the best coaching job in America fior some of the reasons outlined.
The same argument be made for it being the worst due to the pressures, standards & national spotlight.
It's all a matter of opinion. There's some coach at Middle Of Nowhere State whose quietly winning 65% of his games with a small & content following, making decent money who may argue he has the best coaching job in America.

There is something unique about ND and that's why I chose them as my team..
Ah yes but will he ever be regarded as a great coach on the national stage? Fair enough if that isn't his aim all the best to him but the best can coach anywhere and don't see standards and spotlight as pressure but opportunity to prove themselves at the highest level.
all fans should feel that way about their team, no matter if its Michigan, Duke, Navy, or whoever.....the passion is what being a fan is about.
If the question was what is the best coaching job in America with the highest possibility of reward & prominence than yes but that wasn't the question. The question was if Notre Dame is the best job & I was merely illustrating that it all depends on who you ask. A lot of people don't want the kind of job that comes with the baggage of being the ND head coach so to them no it isn't the best.

Not everyone wants the limelight. Many people are perfectly happy at "Middle of Nowhere State" doing their job, coaching their players, spending time with their family, and living their life. They don't want the national exposure that comes with a major program.
Also, ND might have name recognition, but it's far from the program it once was. ND was good in the past, but that's not the case today.
Most college kids today weren't even born when ND won its last "National Championship." All they know of ND is that it's a Catholic school in Nowhere, Indiana that's academically prestigious and loses 6 or 7 games every year. To them, it's no different than Vanderbilt or Syracuse.
Coaches realize this and seek out jobs with programs that are easier to recruit to and more likely to succeed on the field, programs like Florida, Texas, USC, and even Boise State and TCU. All of these are more prestigious than Notre Dame in the year 2010.
I don't think there is a coaching job in America that offers the prestige and recognition of the ND HC, with the exception of the NYY. A ND coach who brings home a NC automatically becomes a legend.
