Coach Weis,

Despite what many of us would like to believe, there is much more to life than football. Even Notre Dame football. The football team has always been expected to demonstrate the best ideals of the University; honor, integrity, dedication, devotion, and excellence. It is this one fan's opinion that you have exhibited these traits in spades. They may not all have manifested themselves on the football field, but life isn't all about football, is it? Your life, Coach, has been as big a win as any that has ever been decided on a gridiron. Your legacy at Notre Dame is, as yet, unclear. You might live forever in the same breath as Gerry Faust, or you might be remembered as the guy who saved the franchise, despite modest success in the Win-Loss column. One thing, however, that cannot be disputed, is your love of the University, of the program, and your desire to see it succeed. Whatever comes your way, Coach, remember that you are already a winner. Screw anyone who tries to tell you differently.

Fair Winds and Following Seas, Sir!!

Well said KMoose

I already had my gushing, thank you Charlie Weis thread. So I'll just say Good Luck, Chuck. And (insert word that ryhmes with Chuck and Luck) the media who says he left Notre Dame in bad shape. This program is set up to suceed thanks to Charlie Weis. He proved you can recruit and create excitement at Notre Dame.

You are my favorite coach next to Lou Holtz.

Pass Right, Hanna and friends, brought back the swagger, never shied away from the expectations, developed 2 of the most exciting and best QBs in ND history and 3 of the most dominant receivers. Teams full of character, never quit, never were out of it. I'll remember the heartbreaking losses (last 4 games, USC 05 and 09) and the miracle wins (where to start? How about a rainy day at Michigan State.) I'll remember that the success of our next coach will be in no small part thanks to the talent and depth every single one of Charlie's classes have, a level that not only did he not have when he arrived but many thought that ND would never be able to bring in again.

Finally I'll remember that Charlie and his teams always represented the University of Notre Dame at its best, and reminded me why I root for the Irish (not that a reminder was needed).

Good luck and thank you Charlie and I hope to see you on the sidelines at Soldier Field as Lovie's #2 man for years to come.

We do need to remember Charlie's many contributions to the school and the football program. As I've said, I posted a heartfelt thanks in another thread and personally, I'd like to let him rest in peace--he's earned it.

Now, to totally contradict myself, I have to disagree with a few points.

First, his charities and charitable work are wonderful but when somebody isn't performing as expected you don't consider that stuff. If I was constantly screwing things up at work I doubt that my boss would give a rip that I volunteer at the dog shelter and Special Olympics.

Second, you said something about where to begin with the miraculous wins? That's pretty easy: begin with Michigan State 2006 and end with UCLA 2006 because the last minute games the team won this year were against some pretty lowly competition and in between those two '06 games and this year there haven't been many miracles. He beat the teams he should have (and lost some of those games too), lost all the toss up games and never beat a team that he shouldn't have.

I do think he proved a lot things in his time at ND and broke many myths that the coach's before him perpetuated about recruiting, etc. But, I don't think Davie or Willingham would've lost to Syracuse or Navy (twice). The astounding losses far outnumbered the miraculous victories.

I just find it funny that some fans hate a guy who is a true to blood Notre Dame guy, wanted to bethe head coach, and worked harder at it than anyone since Lou Holtz. Perhaps he just aint head coach material but i bet no one is more dissapointed in that than him

How can we dislike Charlie, not happy how it ended up. But, a guy who brought us Jimmy, Golden, Floyd, Manti, Rudolph, Stockton, Wood and Evans if they stay---thanks Charlie good luck.

Go back and read the thread I wrote about him, guy. You've been around for two months and you're telling me to take a hike? Beat it.

This website is about expressing opinions. I find it utterly ridiculous that somebody said "where to begin with the miraculous wins". And I'd call that out anytime, any place.

Good job by all these posts, he deserved this, and somewhere down the line Charlie may be given credit for setting the table and changing things at Notre Dame. Respect was earned in his case 'big time'. I hope he reads this thread or someone points it out to him.

Sincerest thanks. We can all see the Ws and Ls, and understand how we got here, but that doesn't mean we wanted it that way.

I recall saying "I don't believe what I just saw" so many times watching your boys, that I would venture to guess my lifetime quota of such electrifying moments is met. It speaks to your character because your boys played hard, and did amazing things when the chips were down.

...and yes, I went from an ND fan that watched highlights to an avid consumer of every game...you did that...thank you for giving me hope again...hope and excitement I hadn't had since Lou.

Best of luck in the NFL, I'll always follow you, and celebrate your victories. I wish you and your family all the best.

It's probably going to be a pretty emotional banquet on Friday. I saw that CW will be in attendance which is the right thing for the school and Charlie. I'm glad they closed it off to the public because he deserves a candid moment with the guys....but I would like to be a fly on the wall.
