"He never won a big game"

That's stupid. Plain stupid.

.

its not. qb's on even poor teams, once in a while, will make a play in the red zone, buy time, find the open guy. while not against elite type teams, JC left some plays out on the field this year.

He will have his degree THIS SPRING. So if he comes back his Senior year it will only be to take extra classes that he does not need.

Remember he was EE and he took some extra classes I believe.

"He never won a big game"

That's stupid. Plain stupid.

Is Clausen supposed to line up on the defensive line and stuff the run? Take a hand off and dive over a goalline pile? catch his passes? and block his own blindside?

He's a QB (there are 21 other positions), and roughly 40 or so players (when you count the 2 deep) that have various degrees of impact on the game. Saying Clausen hasn't won a big game as some knock on his ability is completely ridiculous.

I've been watching football for over 20 yrs now and I've never seen a better pure passer, at any level, in my entire life.

Clausen is video-game accurate with a strong enough arm to compliment his quick release and pinpoint accuracy. There isn't a throw he can't make. He's a competitor in every sense of the word and has succeeded in the face of a lot of adversity his entire career. It has been an absolute pleasure to watch him blossom over the last 3 years.

He's up there with the best to ever play the position at ND. If he returned his SR year, which isn't likely, he'd graduate breaking every meaningful QB record in the history of the program.

He is accurate, and he is a good QB, your right. But name the big game he has won...

He would break records in a pass happy offense under CW, hell if we bring in Hawaii's coach the next QB will probably break his records. He is accurate. He is good. If he came back, with CW's offense, he could win the heisman. But he has great recievers and the o-line has protected him pretty well this year in the games he put up big numbers.

Joe Montana won the big ones. Jimmy has not. I like him, dont get me wrong, but he is far from the best QB in ND history. More like a Powlus than anything else, who surprisingly enough, is his QB coach.

Clausen will be remembered like most of the Irish players. He'll be talked about constantly nowadays, but in fifty years he'll be a name thrown out whenever little grandsons ask their grandfathers who the good players were in their day.

Clausen will be remembered as a good QB, but never lived up to his billing as the greatest QB prospect of the last 10-20 years.(whatever recruiting services were claiming about him)

I saw the Lemming Report where Clausen is ranked among the Top 15 High School prospects of All-Time. He was featured on ESPN as being the future of Football

Winning has a lot to do with his legacy, and being known as having one of the worst records as a starter(11 games or more) in Notre Dame history will not help.

I think Clausen unfortunately will be remembered for getting punched out after losing a game.

Agreed. Jimmy had basically one excellent year, stats-wise. But he never led a winning team. In fact his teams were some of the worst ND has fielded, record-wise, in a couple decades.

Jimmy will be remembered as a very talented QB who never had the support system around him to win. Quinn will be remembered more fondly by fans and sportswriters. So will QBs like Rice and Rick Meier.

JC will be remembered as an above average QB of a what should of been a way above average 2009 team. He should be remembered for his leadership, growth, and as a ball busting tuff as nails QB that always put his team first. This kid has been nothing but a classic ND QB, I hope he realizes how much more he can improve returning next year....I know it's a slim to none chance of him coming back but I hope no one holds it against him. He gave this program nothing but 120% and all his heart from day one. If he goes i wish him the best.

as a qb that could have won a NC with a real defense and a qb that could not beat usc even though it was not his fault. I see him as a very high level pro. I see similarities to Peyton Manning.

No one is Peyton Manning. Manning is so much smarter than any other QB to play this game. Manning is the only game managing gun slinger in the league right now. Manning won't be touched by a QB who is currently in the pros or college right now.

As I said last year I think his legacy will be in the pros. It seems like everyone thinks he will go this year but if a name coach comes in I think he may stay. Just my opinion as it seems we all think he is gone.

Hmm, he wasn't as "smart" in the orange bowl against Nebraska. I stand by my assessment 10 years from now JC will be the most accomplished pro ND QB since Montana.

I will probably get killed for saying this, but here goes: Football is a team game. 22 guys on both side of the ball. Plain and simple. Way too much credit is given and way too much blame is given to the QB. Clausen has been outstanding this year and will most likely make a a great professional QB, but many of the arguments on this board focus on his inability to win the big game. The inability to win the big game rests solely on the shoulders of the coaching staff and the 22 players playing the game. Jimmy has exceeded my expectations this year and will go on to make a great Professional QB.

As far as how he'll be remembered? He'll be remembered as a tough as nails kid who came into Notre Dame with unfair expectations who gutted it out weak in and weak out and made an average football team competitive....

...and then got sucker punched for his efforts by one of our abnoxious fans. Thanks for playing...

He has to go, he may end up being the #1 overall pick by the end of the combine, history shows that turning down opportunities such as this can be really risky. I am not even thinking about it anymore, at first I was depressed. Then we lost to Navy, CT, and Michigan and then I was depressed about other things.

I want the best for Clausen. I will forget about what could have been in 2010 if he goes on to whoop ass in the pros. I'm hoping that he goes to STL and not Cleveland or Oakland.

Clausen will be remembered as the qb during the worst era of ND football. No one is going to give a damn what his qb rating was 10 years from now. You are remembered for winning, not your stats.

Unless Clausen goes on to become a hall of fame NFL qb (which is not likely imo) his legacy will be nothing more than an occasional AFLAC trivia question.

Too bad Jimmy came here with a horrible Oline, and then a horrible defense. He did have 3 really good WR/TE to play with. But, like I said a bad D and a very average RB in Allen behind him.

Too bad. Great QB. Bad Defense

I'm not sure how the rest of the world's gonna remember JC, but I'll remember what an exciting and cocky player he was!
I enjoyed watching him as much as I did BQ.

Hope he has a great pro career, wish ND could have done more w/ him here!

Awesome accuracy but one of the least mobile QB's at ND Ican remember. HAd great weapons around him and enough time to pass the last 2 years. Decision making could take too long sometimes and threw to the wrong wr on occasion. HE could have made enough difference in all our losses to turn them into wins. This would have made him a great QB instead he was good. as desk noted as many good plays as he made he still left a few on the field. Didn't play against great defenses this year.
