Citing sources, ESPN's Joe Schad reports that Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen will enter the 2010 NFL Draft.

Clausen's mind is probably already made up as the Irish head to Stanford for their regular season finale. Schad says Clausen's NFL stock is on the rise thanks to his quick release, pinpoint accuracy (67.3% completions), and improved footwork as a third-year junior. Charlie Weis hasn't proven to be the answer at Notre Dame, but his pro-style system also helps Clausen's case.

it would be no surprise whatsoever. id say it would be excessively unwise for him to risk a career threatening injury by coming back.

Well that sucks, but most people on this forum accepted that Jimmy would leave early a while ago. At this point I'm more concerned about Tate leaving early.

He's got his degree and if he stays this coming year he will lose 10's of millions of dollars...he'd be a fool to stay.

I would LOVE to see him stay, but there simply is no reason. We can only wish him the very best in his future, the kid done good by ND.

BSPN. If they know people will look at it, they put it in print. Hes probably gone, but nothing is positive. Just one mans opinion.

"Sources" are never credible. ESPN frequently jumps on rumors just to get a ratings boost.

Clausen is gone, anyway.

If he returned I'd be surprised at how dumb he would be for returning, he can always go back and finish up his degree but returning next season could possibly cause him injury, a tough transition under the new coach, and will cost him a season with the coming lockout in 2011.

Jimmy is still a work in progress, if I were a NFL Head Coach I would give him 2 seasons to hold the clipboard. Hopefully he ends up in Seattle.

I dont think its dumb at all to return. i also think he is ready. He is not a broke college kid, you only get to play college once. Have fun doin it with alot of teammates you love before joining the No Fun League.

Remember the NFL fined Jake Plummer for refusing to remove his Pat Tillman sticker.

I would think spending 3 years in college while dealing with some tough seasons along with being involved in controversy off the field would be all worth it in April when he becomes a multi Millionaire.

Yeah becoming a multi Millionaire is "dumb".

What more is realistically left for him to accomplish? I'd be in agreement with you if there were a chance for us to contend for a NC next season.

I don't disagree with you that going pro is the "smarter" choice but I wouldn't consider staying "dumb"

Depends on whether he wants his legacy to be that of a good QB in troubled times or become a legend who lead them out of the dark. Crist may be THAT guy.

I just hope that if he does go that he keeps the program first in his mind and leaves ND the right way, helping with the transition as much as possible. I wouldn't expect anything less from him.
