God, all I hope is this doesn't take too long like last time. After Weis is fired at 12:01 AM Sunday as it appears more and more like he will be, don't even bother with Meyer this time (after his recent presser), don't bother with Gruden or Stoops either. Just go out, talk to the guy everyone knows you want (Brian Kelly), get him to sign on the dotted line, and move on. And please God, influence Kelly to sign on that line & thus avoid Your Lady's school from going through what they went through last time....

Dan (Patrick) asked Kelly why he thinks he’s being mentioned for the Notre Dame job. “Probably just profile,” Kelly said. Kelly said it’s partly because he’s ”East coast Irish Catholic.” Dan asked Kelly why he hasn’t commented one way or the other on Notre Dame. “I’ve always stayed away from that,” Kelly said. “Why paint yourself into a corner. Do the best with what you have. Last I checked, that job wasn’t open anyway.” Kelly said that one potential downside of joining Notre Dame is everything else that comes along with the show. “Obviously I have great deal of respect for Notre Dame and what they’ve accomplished and the mission of their academics, the student-athletes, and things of that nature. But you know there’s obviously other things attached to it as well. “You know, my family loves it here. They love Cincinnati. Do you want to be a public figure? Really, it’s like being the governor. When you’re the head coach at Notre Dame, you’re gonna have everything out on the line and you know I’ve got a young family so those are all things you have to consider.” – SI.com

Yeah, that's all great and all, but if he really wasn't interested, he could easily put an end to it with one statement. Hell, Urban Meyer already wrote the script for him. Repeat word-for-word what Urban Meyer said (replacing all the "Florida"s with "Cincinnati"s and the "Tim Tebow"s with "Tony Pike"s), and today we'd all be talking about the imminent Chris Peterson regime at Notre Dame.

By the way, I find it very interesting that a guy with a political background would make this statement:
Do you want to be a public figure? Really, it’s like being the governor.

Am I the only one who thinks this Weis / ND relationship is ending badly? (obviously, if it ends, it ends kind of badly) It just seems like there is some bad blood brewing.

Well, I guess it depends on your definition of badly. I mean, when a coach is about to be fired, is there really any time it ends "well?" I think I've seen worse though (i.e. Willingham). And as a Mets fan, I got to see two of the worst-handled firings of all time in the past 2 years: 1. Willie Randolph, and 2. Tony Bernazard. So far this is definitely going better than any of those.

well, i guess he's going to have a problem to 'move forward' if he can't stay to recruit.

but, yes, i hope a decision is made quickly to find a 'good' replacement.

Wait, you actually believe Meyer's latest presser? You know he said the same things when he was at Utah before he went to Florida and the same things when he was at BG before he went to Utah? It's typical coachspeak. If he has interest in the job, what do you think he's supposed to say to the media while he's preparing Florida for the SEC title game and possibly another BCS game? He has to deny interest. Same goes for Stoops.

I'm not saying Meyer or Stoops has genuine interest in ND, but our Admin would be absolutely foolish to not call either of them. They are home run hires and would be great for ND. If they don't have interest, then move onto the low hanging fruit like Kelly and Patterson.

The article refers to "The Jack Swarbrick Show". What I want to know is: Does Swarbrick really have a "Show" on WLS? Is that right? Has any AD ever had a "Show"? That just seems bizarre.

Yes, previous to him Kevin White had a show in Chicago as well. Believe me, these shows are stuffed in the farthest nook of the radio station, like 9PM on a Sunday night, but it is really a show.

Huh, interesting.

I wonder why they don't get that thing on in Indianapolis. Lord knows our sports talk radio could use ANYTHING. You have no idea how bad it can get hearing about Purdue's third string point guards and women's 'pro' basketball 9 months out of the year. ARGGH!

Eh, I don't remember him coming out and saying anything quite like that when he was at Utah. Can't speak for Bowling Green, it wasn't nearly as big of a deal so I don't really remember. But I don't remember him coming out and making anywhere near the definitive statement about staying at Utah that he made at Florida the other day. At this point, if he left, he'd be in Nick Saban territory. He wasn't in that league when he jumped ship from Utah.

Not everyone wants Brian Kelly.

Not all the fans want Brian Kelly, but it sure sounds like the entire administration does. I'm not sure I wouldn't rather have Chris Peterson to be honest, but my point is just that Swarbrick knows who he wants, so just go after him and don't bother with the big name guys who will probably turn him down.

Oh c'mon, what administration members came out and said they wanted Urban Meyer when Ty Willingham was fired? Just because no one's made it public doesn't mean its not the case. Its obvious that Brian Kelly is the guy they're going to go after, assuming Meyer, Stoops, and Gruden aren't interested (and none of them will be).

First, I haven't seen anything that points that ND wants Kelly. Second, what makes you think that Meyer, Stoops, or Gruden isn't interested?

And I don't think they would let their list of top coaching prospects slip out like it did last time. All the fans knowing that Charlie was our fourth choice doesn't help with anything.

The Jack Swarbrick Show is on an hour before each game. I was in Indy for the pitt game and I was able to pick it up on what ever AM station was broadcasting the game. Here in SBI (south bend indiana) it's on 960 am.

Just the other day someone posted some interesting comments by Urban Meyer, all of which are ridiculously strong against potential rumors of moving to a different coaching position. One of the alleged ones was "As long as I am married, I will be the coach at Utah" - hint: Urban is definitely still married.

Not saying that he for sure is coming, but definitely don't count him out based on what he said - based on his history.
