Swarbrick said - no decision until about a week after Stanford. An OT loss to UConn isn't gonna change that.

dont wanna pile on charlie, but i noticed he really has trouble breathing and seems to keep getting bigger. i really hope he will just take a year off and take care of his health.

It may because that noose is getting tighter around his neck. So it may be time for him to go, as you said, for health reasons alone. As they said in Robin Hood: Men in Tights "No noose, is good noose."

If it's Swarbrick's decision - won't come until a week after Stanford. CW won't quit... he'd give up the money and on top of that... although I think that ND would let him out... I'm sure he'd have a walk away buyout as DickRod did... Never saw so many people turn against a guy so badly.... saddens me.

What saddens me is that ND did not have the stones to fire this guy last year. He should not be ALLOWED to coach another game for this storied program. His apologist continue to baffle me. Please let's get this freaking over with already! Please.

As well they should, the talent level on this defense as a whole 5 years into his tenure is way past unacceptable.

And, we can't say we haven't had or have now the talent. The D-boys just haven't been coached and schemed correctly.

you're right.....i feel absolutely bad for CW and his family.......The way I see things at ND are like this.....CW is in charge of the offense...The offense is decent enough to win games if the defense doesn't give up 30plus points.....

On the defensive side of the ball are the problems.... For 1...It's "teneuter's" blitz happy scheme.....last time i checked..it's not working at ND...2...The lack of "fire" or motivation on the denfense...3...the DB's...4..the horrid tackling....5.....special teams.....

The way you see it is wrong. Many of us on this board have said all along, because it's an inescpabale fact, that CW is in charge of the whole team. When a President fails you don't blame it on a lousy secretary of state or secretary of treasury, in the same way you don't blame a head coach's failings on a lousy defensive coordinator. CW is in charge of the entire ND football operation. If you would've listened to his press conference today you would've heard him say the exact same thing. He said "I'm the head coach. I'm not going to throw somebody under the bus. The blame for wins and losses rests with me. As it should".

So this b.s. about Charlie being in charge of the offense and Tenuta the defense and this season's shortcomings not being Charlie's fault is moronic and even he discounts that.

it's not just the scheme,it's the talent.
i love all the guys we have, but it's sad to say we dont have the defensive talent to hang with the uconn's,syracuses,or anybody.thats a sad fact.
we havnt improved a single bit on defense in five years...and there is no denying that.
it sucks we're losing the only decent defensive player in mccarthy.

Its the scheme. You think we dont have more talent on defense than Iowa Cininnatti or Stanford. Imagine how good Brian Smith would be if he could tackle. Or if Harrison Smith was taught coverage. Steve Filer, Ethan Johnson, KLM, Te'o and Slaughter could all use good fundamentals.

r u kidding me?
these are college kids that have been playing football for many years...they didnt just start last week.
if they dont know as least some basic fundamentals, and cant tackle, that clearly shows how bad they are.
ill give te'o some credit,he's only a freshman and isnt bad,but he's a freshman.but yes, iowa, cincinnati, and stanford clearly have better defenses.
look at the stats,we clearly have one of the worst defenses in the country.
we would have troubles against a good high school team right now.

Players dont come into college ready to go. Many play out of poition and few have coaches that can teach the techniquerequired to play at a high level. It is in college where guys really learn the technique to play at a high level, that is what these kids are lacking. Look at how big a differenceguys like Gene Chizick and Will Muschamp made ate every one of their stops as D-Coordinators. Thats not an accident, they stress fundametals and preperation.

im not saying a coach shouldnt be able to help with fundamentals and just simple football techniques....but these kids should at least be able to tackle out of high school. thats not asking too much.

Iowa and cincy, yes (statistically, anyway). Stanford is mediocre or worse. Cal just gashed their defense last night, rushing for 246 yards and passing for 235 yards. granted, stanford plays against stronger offenses in the pac-10 than Iowa or Cincy face. of course, we know stats can lie. i have never witnessed a legitimate defense giving up 711 yards (as Cincy did last week). never.

defensive rankings (by pts/game)

team....pts/game......yards/game

11. iowa 15.5 286.7
16. cincy 16.9 335.8
56. ND 24.2 388.8
63. Stanford 25.1 391.1

I cant see him resigning with only 1 week left but we will see.

I was thinking the samething about nbc. It was like they took pleasure in the fact it was more then likely his last home game.
Im just happy I dont have to listen to those hacks for another 10 months and by then I can get my radio reception locked up for Cruiqi/Pinkett. I couldnt get radio for UCONN game as they stopped coverage in Georgia- irrelevant game- so I had to put up with those clowns one more time.

Kids come into college in most cases, manhandling undersized, untalented kids out just to have fun in high school. So no....in a lot of cases, the fundamentals aren't taught. They're taught to go beat the shit out of the guy lined up over them...end of story.

Well, not all of ND's defense was freshmen, I don't think... so, many of them weren't coming straight in...

Kirk Herbstreet said it best today when asked what he thought the problem was for ND this year, he said it was the defense and the defensive scheme. Said Tenuta is probably one of, if not, the best defensive coordinator in the country and you have to point back at the defensive unit. I ain't making excuses for anyone but, you make it sound like every player was coming in ready to go and to be honest with you, Manti didn't look to shabby coming in as a Freshman ready to go.

Agreed.. Kirk was dead on.. It was the defense and the defensive scheme. His corner blitz never worked to save his life. ND 2005 all over again, where the offense needs to out score opponents to win.

Exactly. you watch filme of guys like Calabrese or Parker for example and they just throw their bodies and high school kids and drop them. In college they are on a equal playing field. They gotta learn to wrap and follow through on tackles.
