I'm going to jump in on this debate--and hopefully not offend anybody.

It's not Harrison Smith's fault that he sucks, though it is vexing that a player can be a three year starter and never improve his fundamentals. It's the coaching staff's fault for continuing to start a player that sucks.

Not to defend his play at times, but he didn't play his freshman year, so this is year 2 for him.

what does that mean?

It means that they think you're going to get banned like they did.

The person who runs this site has made it clear that personal insults to the players of of own university won't be tolerated. Attack his play all you want (I agree he's had a HORRIBLE year, but he's been much more effective the last few games as a OLB vs a safety...until the 2nd half today), but there's no need to get personal like that.

There's never been any problems with you here so that's why I'm sure the mod just gave you the warning, and hopefully that'll be the end of it...

Question: how many yards did Brian Kelly's Cincinnati team put up against UCONN last week?

Answer: 711 FREAKIN YARDS!!!

why oh why didnt ND and the "geniusness" that is the charlie weis offense just walk all over uconn's defense?

Yes 711 yards and they won by two points. They needed every bit of those yards, which is what scares me about Kelly or any of these system guys, because they seem to have teams that are all offense and no defense.

not crazy talk. on paper, looking at how recruiting classes were ranked, and even mel kiper, jr (i know, some people hate him) agree notre dame had more raw talent than anyone but usc this year. i dont see any teams on next years schedule that could truly claim more talent (outside of USC).

it is an illusion that teams like pitt have more talent. a better record doesnt make it so. the better record is a matter of development of talent and better coaching.

i know how to read, you don't even know what you wrote dude......wake up.

I can't even put into words what I feel right now. No matter if Coach Weis is kept or if he goes we are completely boned! I am pretty drunk right now and I am so disheartened about things. If he goes we are screwed. If he stays we are screwed. What is the answer?!? I better stock up on booze and dope because the next few years are gonna suck again regardless of the "big name" we get.

Fuck me. Seriously what has happened to our program?!? Is this what schools like Army felt like when they fell from college football's elite? I need more booze. This sucks.

That was awesome seeing them walk out arm in arm though.

So by what you are saying, Jimmy's arm is stronger than Quinn and Anderson? and Jimmy has better accuracy than Quinn or Anderson??? On what do you base this?... out of one good year? Don't think I don't love Jimmy as ND's QB, just want some kind of stat or proof that you can back up that Jimmy is a better pro prospect than that of Quinn and Anderson.

Persuade me my friend. I always listen.

Dizzy

bottom line is that scouts project clausen to go high in the draft and cleveland will at least take a look because they have seen nothing encouraging from their qb position.

proof that he is a better pro prospect? nothing to go on except draft status, and historically that has not been a good indicator. there are tons of draft reports out there citing quinns nfl arm as average and clausens as above average, but it is above the shoulders that will make the difference and quinn, thus far, has looked as though he simply has trouble reading nfl defenses.

there is not a "stat" to prove one guy will be a better nfl qb than another. if there was, there wouldnt be so many bad misses in the draft at qb and tom brady would not have been taken in the 6th round. i have no idea if he will actually end up a better pro qb. there are so many intangibles that cannot be measured. most of the mock drafts that have been posted have clausen going pretty high, so plenty of scouts see the potential to be a good nfl qb. i dont see clausens arm strength as dramatically better than quinn (whose own coach has cited his average arm strength in comparison to anderson's), but neither has the arm strength of anderson, who any scout will agree is one of the strongest in the nfl.

well i really dont think its all his fault but since he is the head coach he will get all the blame. if we could tackle then we win this game along with 2 or 3 more!!

anybody else see them play that presser when he signed on, he has gained so much weight since then, i was shocked.

Yes, that was amazing. He looked like a young fairly slim man. Now a very fat man. Stress I guess.

I'm not sure where this will leave us in regards to a new HC, the way I'm feeling, I'm not sure anyone can/will, be able to make a difference?

Something needs to change in Southbend, and I don't just mean the HC, our program is fundamentally flawed (academically) in regards to recruiting, at least in comparison with elite teams in the NCAA.

I'm proud of what we do academically, we have the money, we have the facility's, but we don't have a competitive program, and unfortunately, unless changes are made, I doubt we ever will.

We need to forget, "stirring the echo's" and get back to the here and now, at least if we want to be competitive again.

Obviously the blame has to fall on Charlies shoulders, he is the HC, and thats why he'll be fired, but if you want to point fingers in regards to, "coaching", look no further than Defensive Coordinator Jon Tenuta.

If CW was just our Offense Coordinator, he might still be in a job, maybe as the next HC, but due to the, "talent", on Defense and the guy calling the shots, (Tenuta) he'll be released after Stanford next week.

I would argue that all the, "talent" is on one side of the ball starting with JC etc, our defense has stunk all year, as has our ST's, at least outside of the odd return by Golden Tate.

.

i dont know if anything has to change fundamentally with the program other than coaching personnel. ND is an underdog this week to:

-a stanford team with a head coach in only his 3rd year
-a stanford team that is only 3 years removed from being 1-11, with virtually no talent, uncompetitive, and one of the worst team ever in college football
-a stanford team that has more "signature" wins this year alone than weis has ever had
-and last, but certainly not least, at an institution that has higher academic standards than ND.

never mind their coach coming here, im just saying if that abysmal program can become competitive and now bordering on being very strong...then ND can as well....it is just a matter of coaching personnel...plain and simple.

More like a glance, on their way down the line. Cleveland has much more pressing needs than at QB. They will not add yet another QB to the already controversial position there.

This.

Cleveland is in drastic need of some offensive lineman, a decent running back (Jamal Lewis? Seriously?), some WIDE RECEIVERS (Dez Bryant to Cleveland?), a tight end, some decent lineman, some linebackers, and a secondary.

i agree they may not take a strong look at qb, but it would also depend on what deals may be out there to be had on quinn and/or anderson.

but c'mon, other than having needs at qb, O line, RB, WR's, TE, D line, LB, CB, and S, they are perfectly fine..........i heard their waterboy serves up some of the best H2O in the league.

The blame does have to rest with Charlie. He knows that-enough said. I was very impressed with the respect shown to him by the players. I think he deserved that for his effort. He certainly has my respect. Now Notre Dame must move on and do what they have to do to get the program on track. I hope this man stays near the program because he can still do Notre Dame some good in another capacity. The only good thing for me about yesterday was I dont have to listen to NBC's presentation for another 10 months. The phony emotion they tried to show for the man was sickening, it was nice to see him tell the women reporter thats enough-thats all and walk away. Its time to re-enter the competitive college football world with a different policy of recruiting and a new coach. Choose well or mark the results. One last note keep your fingers crossed that the new coach is as good a man as Charlie Weis.

I know he felt so bad that he was crying in Weis' office. Everybody makes mistakes and does things they regret.

This being said, his penalty was so catastrophic from so many angles.

Were up 14-0 and force a 3 and out. If we drive and put it in the endzone and go up 21-0, we never see that 2 headed running attack. We get Zach Frazier winging it around the field. I think big advantage to ND in that scenario (oh yeah and its 21-0 too)

Even at 17-0, it changes the gameplan for UConn. If we dont score at all, and we'll never know, its just a moot point.

All I know is being up 14-0 and forcing a 3 and out is a lot better than a personal foul and 14-7 a few minutes later.

Being the penalty was just soooooooo poor of a decision it really stayed in my head all game long. That ball was 10 yards out of bounds. Why? I just dont get why you even think about that hit.
